DarkSteven -> Why Obama scares conservatives. (11/2/2012 5:57:40 AM)

He's a pragmatist.

I remember one thing he said during the 2008 campaign. "I'm not against wars. I'm against stupid wars."

He likely hated doing the auto bailout at the time. (Now, of course, it's giving him a strong toehold in Ohio.) But he did it because it gave the best chance of holding the economy.

The conservatives have evolved from Reagan's ideologically driven pragmatism to pure ideology.

So we have Romney trying desperately to sound like a pure ideologue because he's supposed to. He's opposing the auto bailout because it interferes with the idea that government intervention is bad. Always. 100%. At the same time, he's trying to make a case that private interests would have invested without government guarantees, which is ridiculous, and he knows it.

Ryan's pushing a budget plan (well, he did. He's been kinda quiet about it since becoming the VP candidate) that advocates tax cuts for the wealthy, cuts in entitlement programs, and balances the budget decades later, even with unrealistic assumptions about the growth rate. Pure ideology.

Conservative pundits are attacking Nate Silver's model. That's like attacking math because it doesn't yield the result you want. The cons have failed throughout the entire Bush administration - we got a failed economy, record debt, two unwinnable wars, and an Obama landslide in 2008.

They cannot handle reality.

Obama does stuff that works. His style is to relay heavily on intelligence and use surgical strikes. During his administration, we've had no new invasions, stepped up drone attacks that have hurt Al Qaeda badly, the strike that took Osama bin Laden, and the bailouts. While there's no opportunity to really assess his response to Sandy, it's certainly not a failure and much better than the Katrina fiasco. His failures have been in dealing with Congress, and the Benghazi intel issue. And in stemming the scurrilous lies circulating about him.

He's kept Gitmo open and maintained the Bush encroachment on civil liberties. He's mechanized the war. In short, he does things that no pure liberal or pure conservative would do. He's not driven by ideology.

A perceptive analysis, Stephen.
Of course, looking at some of the crap that's been spouted about the Kenyan in here over the last four years, there could be another factor, though I suppose that one also comes down to rigid ideology as well...

Republicans are also heavily into identity politics, and many REPs have an irrational hatred/dislike of Obama. He's black and he's a democrat. Limbaugh, Coulter, and the FNC routinely paint him as a traitor.

FR

Just further proof that thinking through things in a thoughtful, intelligent manner, and structuring solutions that make sense within that context, creates better leadership. Leadership, at any point in history, but especially today, requires intelligence.

I know what people will say. But he's talking about pragmatism. But as we all know, common sense ain't so common.....

Simple Answer: Obama is an avowed socialist. That is being kind. The people closest to him now and when he was young, wherever the hell that was, were communists, radicals, terrorists. These are the people who confiscate the wealth of others and redistribute to their lackeys. Yeah, he and his ilk scare the sh#% out of me. That's why we need to DEFEAT (not compromise) them.

mnottertail -> RE: Why Obama scares conservatives. (11/2/2012 8:15:06 AM)

Well, all republicans are avowed nazis and that scares people too.

flyhumbleguy -> RE: Why Obama scares conservatives. (11/2/2012 8:21:02 AM)

Absolutely correct. He's only being pragmatic to get elected and as long as he is saddled with a Republican controlled House.

flyhumbleguy -> RE: Why Obama scares conservatives. (11/2/2012 8:22:26 AM)

Continued welfare state socialism agendas will push some tea partiers towards national socialism just as Communist Russia and economic collapse pushed a Weimar Germany into supporting Hitler.

What troubles many people is his administrative amnesty for illegal aliens in August of 2011 and April 2012, his ordering ICE to not deport illegal aliens, his increasing the discrimination against white workers via affirmative action in Federal hiring and so forth. The illegalities in Fast & Furious in which we saw the spectacle of an Attorney General, Eric Holder, being allowed to retract his sworn testimony before Congress so that the gutless GOP would not have to have him arrested for perjury. Obama approved nine new nuclear power plants in 2011. Just what we need more nukes, at least Germany had the sense to not just cease new nuclear plants but GET RID of what they have. Obama is a dedicated Marxist as are the rank and file Democrats, but don't think, for a second, that genuine conservatives are fooled by Conservatism Inc. aka the GOP who are NOT really all that different from the Democrats. Peter Brimelow, former executive editor at Forbes and currently a writer for CBS Marketwatch put it very well this morning:

quote:

the most important single issue facing the U.S. is its post-1965 immigration disaster, both legal and illegal. The bipartisan Permanent Government is literally Electing A New People. Among other problems caused by this utterly selfish and irresponsible policy—immiseration of the working class, cultural dispossession, linguistic balkanization, increased crime, overpopulation, etc. —there is the amazing fact that within 30 years, the U.S. will be majority non-white. The U.S., as it has been known to history, will simply cease to exist within the lives of children now born (including my own).

Got a citation for any of that?
I mean, an American politician running on a socialist ticket, you'd expect there to be a bit of evidence for that one. You'd also expect people who voted for an alleged socialist to be a bit peeved about him carrying on like the Chimp's third term as well.

Could be we are adding jobs too...

American economy added 171,000 jobs in October and the unemployment rate ticked up slightly but stayed below 8 percent, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Analysts had expected 120,000 jobs to be created.

or could be this truth....

The report, as ThinkProgress reported in September, found that tax cuts for the rich spurred income inequality, not economic growth. “There is not conclusive evidence, however, to substantiate a clear relationship between the 65-year steady reduction in the top tax rates and economic growth,” the report stated. “However, the top tax rate reductions appear to be associated with the increasing concentration of income at the top of the income distribution.”

This, in a nutshell. But I enjoyed reading the rest too. Just as I enjoy reading stuff from the enlightened conservatives here.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Why Obama scares conservatives. (11/2/2012 8:47:12 AM)

He thinks for himself. This is anathema to those on the Far Right which has, unfortunately, managed to somehow take over the GOP over the last 30 years.
Bible Beating does not allow for independent thought.

I know what zipcode stands for, do you?   Nazis and facists are teabaggers, neo-cons, 'conservatives', and 'independents'.

There is no distinction for differentiation.

Seeing as how you have such a problem concerning unions and certification, please don't be offended if I don't take your word on that.[:D]

Seeing as how you are unable to read, and are as all drooling imbeciles on the right do, unable to provide proof of any assertions of your misrepresentations of my positions to the contrary, then I will lable your drivel pure asswipe, per usual.

Ok...but job creation, and the BS the GOP pulled about taxes to the top 1% NOTHING...Ahhh proof the tax breaks do not work and nothing to that point

Such loony, ranting bullshit.
Obama has deported illegals at a higher rate than any other Administration.
He ordered ICE to stop deporting Dream Act illegals only.
No evidence of affirmative action against whites (there's that n e g r o paranoia at work)
And there is no "and so forth" except in your conspiracy addled little mind.
