Yachtie -> Bill Maher, what a guy (11/3/2012 8:49:52 AM)

How much more race baiting can a leftist get?

Bill Maher on HBO's Real Time Friday might have said one of the most disgraceful things uttered during the 2012 campaign season.

"If you're thinking about voting for Mitt Romney, I would like to make this one plea: black people know who you are and they will come after you"

See the video. Now people were laughing and it was comedic, but one has to wonder - Even being comedic, was he being prudent? He said "just kidding".

Would a rightie get away with that?

edit: Riot Threats

The man is politically incorrect. Consider him the male version of Ann Coulter... except that Maher also calls Dems on their bullshit too. You wouldn'd know that.

bustyCObabe -> RE: Bill Maher, what a guy (11/3/2012 9:04:16 AM)

This is the best you have to whine about - Maher's comments which, even you, indicate are comedic?! Maybe he said it because willard's religion didn't recognize blacks until around 1978 - pretty awesome of them, no? I am concerned about willard approving religious fear-mongering robo-calls as that behaviour is disgusting but I'm not surprised given the desperation of willard's campaign:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/politics/

I'm more concerned about willard's outright and thoroughly debunked lies about the car industry and Obama's cuts to the Medicare Advantage program, not medicare itself. And honestly, I don't care a whole lot about what Maher says on his comedy show - most of the outrageous garbage can be laughed at and disregarded.

Edwynn -> RE: Bill Maher, what a guy (11/3/2012 10:02:27 AM)

What I laugh about is the tone of the OP; "Did you hear what he said!?"

I envision a teen girl looking at her friend, mouth agape, at the wonder of the audacity, etc.

Maher already proved with his idiotic "Mississippi interviews" and "urban interviews" of the lowest of society he could find in each sector that he is a bigot non-pareil.

If he is in fact an ideologue liberal (I've never watched him long enough to find out), then the odds are great that he's an asshole, many of whom feel the need to be such in countenance to the ass wipe mental cretin neo-cons.

People don't want to know anything useful anymore, they just want to be upset, or angered, or comedically patronized, or whatever other nonsense they want to be entertained with.

But not even Hannity or Oreilly or Colbert or Stewart or Maher, with all their idiocy combined, have attained the level of idiocy I had to suffer through from one required semester of a political 'science' class.

This country is sunk, folks. Enjoy the bread and circuses of Maher, Rush, etc.

And by all means, giggle about it, and gossip like little girls, a la "did you hear what he said?!"

That's what our media conglomerates are here for, folks, to steer you in the right direction, tell you what to think, tell you what to get upset about, what to laugh at, etc.

Ok, so you give him a pass. I see that as a typical leftist response. You also avoided my questions. Whether he's a male Ann Coulter or that Maher calls dems on their BS too is not relevant. Also the fact is I do know that, but that too is not germane to the questions.

Fellow -> RE: Bill Maher, what a guy (11/3/2012 10:21:38 AM)

I am curious what is behind Bill Mahers's strong support for Obama. He is a smart man, he knows Obama presidency has been a disaster (I would even say: a scandal) so far. Does anybody has an idea?

dcnovice -> RE: Bill Maher, what a guy (11/3/2012 10:29:05 AM)

FR

Mark Twain famously compared analyzing humor to dissecting a frog. You learn a lot, but the animal dies in the process.

That said, I will hazard the guess that in your first link, Maher was mocking the kind of paranoia evident in your second link.

He's not the male version of Coulter, that would be Rush Limbaugh. Coulter is a bitter shrew filled with hate who believes all the nonsense that she spews. Maher is a stand-up comic.

I'm not sure about that, to be honest. I sometimes suspect she's a shrewd, cynical gal who found a way to make a comfortable living by saying aloud what many right-wingers think but dare not utter. I can picture her laughing at her audience all the way to the bank.

Moonhead -> RE: Bill Maher, what a guy (11/3/2012 11:18:58 AM)

I suppose calling Maher a leftist is less of a stretch than calling the Kenyan a Marxist, but it's still nonsense. The man's an equal opportunities, non partisan pisstaker, which is why he's occasionally funny, unlike ideological "comedians" from either side...

tazzygirl -> RE: Bill Maher, what a guy (11/3/2012 11:29:46 AM)

Exactly.

Maher eschews political labels, referring to himself as "practical".[36] In the past, he has described himself as a libertarian and has also referred to himself "as a progressive, as a sane person".[37][38]

Maher favors a partial privatization of Social Security, ending corporate welfare and federal funding of non-profits, and legalization of gambling, prostitution, and marijuana. Maher is a member of the advisory boards for both the NORML and Marijuana Policy Project, organizations which support regulated legalization of marijuana.[39][40] He describes himself as an environmentalist, and he has spoken in favor of the Kyoto treaty on global warming on his show Real Time. He often criticizes industry figures involved in environmental pollution.[41]
Maher is a board member of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

Before the 2004 U.S. presidential election, Maher became candid in his stated opposition to the re-election of George W. Bush and in his support for John Kerry.[42]

Known for protesting against the demonization of the word "liberal", during the campaign Maher criticized Kerry for being ashamed of the word. On his show, the comedian has noted the paradox of people claiming they distrusted "elite" politicians while at the same time wanting elite doctors to treat them and elite lawyers to represent them in court.[43] Maher supports the death penalty.[44] Since the 9/11 attacks, he has endorsed the use of racial profiling at airports.[45]

He was originally against the Iraq War, and has summarized his opinion by saying that the United States and the world have had to pay too high a price for the war. He is skeptical of Iraq surviving without civil war.[46]
In the 2008 U.S. presidential election, Maher announced his support for Barack Obama.[47] Although Maher welcomed Obama's electoral victory, he has subjected him to criticism since taking office for not acting boldly on health care reform and other progressive issues.[48]

On February 23, 2012, after his 'Crazy Stupid Politics' special streamed on Yahoo! Screen, Maher announced that he was contributing $1 million to Priorities USA, the Obama SuperPAC.[49][50]

GotSteel -> RE: Bill Maher, what a guy (11/3/2012 12:16:12 PM)

The guys a tinfoil hat who's getting people killed by promoting the antivax movement. I'd kind of like to hear more of the segment before passing judgement on what he was saying though.

tazzygirl -> RE: Bill Maher, what a guy (11/3/2012 12:22:45 PM)

His objection was to the flu shot.

quote:

Vaccination is a nuanced subject, and I've never said all vaccines in all situations are bad. The point I am representing is: Is getting frequent vaccinations for any and all viruses consequence-free?

quote:

I'm just trying to represent an under-reported medical point of view in this country, I'm not telling a specific pregnant lady what to do. With unlimited air time, I would have, for example, added to my discussion with Dr. Bill Frist on October 2 that, yes, any flu or health challenge can be dangerous when you're pregnant, and if your immune system is already compromised by, for example, eating a typical American diet, then a flu shot can make sense. But someone needs to be representing the point of view that says the preferred way to handle flus is to have a strong immune system to begin with, and getting lots of vaccines might not be the best way to accomplish that over the long haul.

quote:

Now, sometimes its OK to fuck with nature -- I believe "intelligent design" is often anything but intelligent; that "God's perfect universe" is actually full of fuck ups and design flaws, like cleft lips and Down Syndrome -- so correcting nature is sometimes the right thing to do. And then, sometimes its not. For me, the flu shot is in the "not" category.

Bill Maher is an unbelievably well educated, highly capable speaker who is inherently nothing more than a bully, who also happens to be (occasionally) funny.

And he has a very large podium.

I don't recall who said it but someone said something along the lines of "in an environment when things turn to chaos and someone must lead, people will always follow whoever grabs the microphone".

That's why people like Maher are dangerous.

He rarely if ever calls Democrats on the carpet (unless they're sticking quarters in the latrines at airports or sending suggestive texts or photos to 12 year old boys).

As to Ann Coulter, she, like Maher, is brilliant....there's no question about that. Smarts is something she can wave over damn near anyone in any room full of people. And she's hot.

That's the main reason people listen to her.....and except for being hot, that's why people listen to Maher....because they're both unbelievably above most as to IQ, and they have a microphone and aren't afraid to use it.

Both, by the way (along with Beck and Rush, among others) are scum.

The people who listen to them, moreover follow their advice, even worse, spew it as if it were their own thoughts (of which they have none of their own) are all dangerous.

Thinking, reading, studying, educating oneself about the facts (and yours are different from mine, mine are different from the next guys, all because they're influenced by events in our lives that are equally unique) is the only way to ever reach the truth.

Your truth....not one handed to you.

People that follow like lemmings these idiots.....vote.

And that is some scary shit.

Because he's in the business of selling soap.

They may know where we live but if Bronco Bama loses they'll have to act quickly. According to Biden I understand that Romney will be slapping chains on them promptly if he is elected.
