Just to point out an option, to those who could never bring themselves to vote for one of those wing-nut Repubs, but still know the Hope and Change guy was a failure, there is always the protest vote.

At the top of my CA sample ballot, as the first choice for President of the United States, sits the name of Roseanne Barr, with Cindy Sheehan as her running mate.

A little bit down, we also have Jill Stein. She's so desperate for press, she went and got herself arrested, but with a campaign that didn't even have a statement ready when it happened, she might be even more incompetent than what we have at the moment.

If you can't bring yourself to make the wise mark, you at least have other fools to choose from.

I read some excerpts from Roseanne's book. She's out of her mind.

FR

Fittingly enough, today is her 60th birthday.

Caught some of her standup once on TV, ages ago, and she was hysterical. Don't know much else about her.

A more deserving candidate than Romney.

Roseanne lost a lot of weight... Running for President seems to be doing her some good.

He won't be the heaviest candidate in recent memory,eh?

i predict she will be blamed by whatever side loses. like ralph nader was when gore lost, even though the man couldn't manage to carry his own state!

Gary Johnson is already on tap to be the scapegoat for this election... Roseanne will have to wait for 2016

Wouldn't he likely draw more vote away from Romney ?

The problem of third party candidates in our two party system is any serious campaign sabotages the main party closest to the outsider's positions. Where else would his voters come from? (Gore had the election pretty much if Nadar's ego hadn't sunk all the progressive possibilities by splitting the vote.) Which could happen now if Mitt had made the latest flip-flop speech too soon. His latest position is 'bipartisanship' with Democrats to 'get things done' serving 'all Americans', not just one interest group. If that had been said during the primaries the Tea Party would not only have tossed him out on his ear, they might have tarred and feathered him. Even a month ago, enough would jump to Johnson to turn some states Blue instead of Red. Now, who knows? The drum beat of paranoia that the black Muslim socialist might ruin Western Civilization has been so strident few believers will jump even as Mitt reverses completely from what brought them all together. Wait, there are still 3 days for him to reverse yet again?

Speaking as on of those Nader voters in 2000, I'd like to make completely clear that Ralph got my vote specifically because I would not, under any circumstances, have voted for that piece of shit, Al Gore. I damn near walked away from Clinton's campaign in '92 over Al as the Veep pick.

Understand that even with the full benefit of hindsight, if the entire 2000 election had somehow come down to my lone vote, it never would have been given to Al Gore.

A protest vote is just that. Nobody believes the recipient of it is actually going to win.

Not to interject if it's not welcome, but there was an election in US history where a third party write in candidate won the popular vote. Unfortunately all the votes were for a fictional character.

Debatable, turns out a lot of progressives are pot heads, and aren't too happy with Obama going after California pot growers.

I haven't looked it up myself in years, but I seem to recall my mother telling me about the problems they had the election year that Mickey Mouse campaigned. I used to have a link for it around here somewhere buried in an email. I'll see what I can find, but I bet it's googleable. I don't remember of the top of my head what year, but I'm seeing how my google fu does with it tonight. SHouldn't be too hard to find. I don't think he ran a second time (LMAO) give me a few and I'll see what I can turn up for some info links.

No write-in has ever won a presidential election. In my High School, Mickey Mouse was elected class president (Edison High School class of '82) but no write-in candidate has ever won the WH.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

I was wrong, apparently the mouse has a long and storied history of being the most voted for third party candidate of all time. And he voted in florida during the '08 elections among other things. I may not be able to find this as easily as I thought. There's a website up NOW mickeyforpresident.com. I guess the mouse is more of a pollitico than I was aware of. Yikes!!!

Um, no popular vote has ever determined the winner, so no, no third party candidate is ever likely to win no matter what people put down. ((BIG SIGH AND HEAD SHAKE WITH FACEPALM)) Why do I have to point this out every four years? The electoral college picks the president, you don't. Usually they respect the wishes of the people in the areas they represent, but they are in no way required to do so.
