Got to love Rachel Maddow. She just stated it as it is.

Yup. Sadly I don't feel that optimistic though .....

Even Rachel, persuasive communicator that she is, isn't going to persuade the back woods people that Obama isn't Kenyan-born, that Nate Silver isn't a communist, that climate change isn't a left wing conspiracy to redistribute wealth, that the World wasn't created in 6 days c6,000 years ago or that facts really do matter when it comes to making good decisions.

For them to accept that all the beliefs they cling to so tenaciously are as fictional as the Land of Oz requires them to change and we all know how vociferously these people resist change. There's no need to look any further than these boards for evidence of that - how many of our esteemed looney Right posters have figured out why their guy lost to Obama yet?

Im going to be bluntly honest... if he had not been black... or even half black... none of that would have mattered beyond a passing thought.

So, we're racists, then. Wow.

tazzygirl -> RE: Post election thoughts. (11/10/2012 8:10:56 PM)

Nope... thats not what I said at all. And I knew that I would be accused of that... was surprised it was by you.

Him being black made it "OK" to have those thoughts. Him being black allowed others to pause long enough to let those thoughts sink in. Once they got a foot hold, the party took off with them.

LevelTx -> RE: Post election thoughts. (11/11/2012 4:15:57 AM)

Nationally, I'm glad Obama won, Romney is too clueless... locally I'm saddened by my county in Tx turning red due to hatred of a black man being elected.

Edited to add that the above is overly simple but is based in enough fact to make it a valid statement.

What does his skin color have to do with it? For you to say that his skin color made a difference in how people acted means they were discriminating based on skin color. How is that not calling people racist?

FWIW, that holds true internationally too.

I suspect that the rest of the world breathed a heartfelt sigh of relief when the news came through that Obama had retained office. The only exception I can think of is Netanyahu, who is going to have to pay the price for his unwise intrusion into the election on Romney's side.

Could we just ask con-owners to hold their breaths for the next 4 years or until they`re dead....witch ever comes 1st?[:D]

How will these con-douche-bags know if they`re firing a Mitt voter or an Obama voter....or even if the poor slob they`re firing voted at all?

This is why the GOP has to reform and kick their fascists to the curb to start their own party.....b/c their "leardership", is filtering down to the ranks.

Are you denying that racism doesnt live within both parties?

Are you denying that the more people who are willing to accept a theory will actually allow that theory to thrive?

Please dont tell me you actually believe there arent people within the US that wont look at a black man and believe he is capable of doing almost any dirty deed any other man claims.

Lets explain it this way.

You are at a party... and someone shows up that no one really likes. Some because of who that person is... some because of what that person believes.

In this case, those who dont like what he believes jumped on the easier band wagon of attacking who that person was.

Which gave birth to the Kenyan birth certificate.

I dont have to be racist to know all this exists... neither do you.

I dont have to label everyone racists to know that in the minds of some, racism was behind much of the dissent and nastiness that happened.

Thanks Tazz,I replied,I hope I was clearer this time.

In an effort to remain true to the actual thread I am on(instead of just using it to pass messages back and forth to Tazzy....lol) so true Lucy
I enjoyed the 16 minutes so much I shared it with some other members of my family, all of whom had already voted their conscious and celebrated the Democrats victory Tuesday night.
Now if only I could tie down some of my republican friends for a little bit....
