First, Kudos to Romney for his concession speech. I thought it was well delivered, honest and straight forward. To bad that wasnt the man I saw during the campaign.

Second.. Kudos to the GOP crowd. With just a couple of exceptions, the absence of boos and cat calls upon hearing Romney say he called the President spoke well for the crowd.

Little has changed.

Obama is still President.

The House still Conservative.

The Senate still Democratic.

That says many things to me.

One... the people didnt buy all the hype and lies, from both sides of the isle. It came from all sides, and, frankly, it was embarrassing at times. Lets not go into who said what, just agree that both sides did and move on.

Two... The people are not ready to give either party full control of the government... and I dont blame them. Its time both parties started working together. Until they do, I dont se ethis trend changing much. I, for one.. just one lone vote... dont really trust either party completely. And I love the fact that there are these checks and balances in place.

Three.... I have a sneaking feeling that the midterms will be a feeding frenzy next round. It all depends on how well our elected officials can get along. I look to men like Christie to make a subtle change in how he deals with both parties.

Four... Obama squeaked by... not so much because of who he is.. but who he ran against. Romney was feared by women and the minority vote. Something the GOP may want to keep in mind next time. That doesnt give Obama a pass. He needs to deliver on his promises this time around. Else I see the WH going definitely Republican next time.

The people spoke tonight. No one can say this was a black vote... no one can claim this was a white vote. This wasnt a party vote... too many states went one party in the local and Congress and the other in Presidency.

Its time we actually started working together for better ideas and solutions instead of nit picking each other to pieces for that all mighty vote. The American people are not so easily fooled anymore.

The message, in my eyes, tonight was...

Work it the fuck out.

I`m glad the progressive agenda was reaffirmed and the President can finish more of the things he`s started.

The results also are an acknowledgment of who was responsible for the great recession and who`s best to bring us out of it.

All the cons ran on was turning back what the President did.....not very inspirational.

And I`m hoping for the civil war within the GOP that everyone from the President to Lush Rimbaugh said was going to happen if  Mitt lost.

Added...Mitt gave what I think was the best concession speech I`ve ever heard.Classy, actually but I don`t think the cons will be listening.

Tazzy iti s too late to get into all of that but one thing did jump out at me.
Your assertion that minus Obama delivering, the W.H. goes Republican next time....
I have trouble with that assertion for this one simple reason .
The Latino vote, the fastest growing demographic in the country....they voted Obama/Democratic at a 72% clip
Until and unless the Republican party re-brands itself,or at the least addresses it's immigration policy ,I do not see them winning a National election.
They change or they become irrelevant ...that simple.

tazzygirl -> RE: Post election thoughts. (11/6/2012 10:54:32 PM)

Let another 4 years go by without immigration being addressed and see what happens to that vote. Im not saying they will vote for a Republican... I have a feeling they will simply stay home.

The "Latino" vote is temporary, in general the Latin Americas are culturally far more conservative in many ways, especially socially.

The GOP was very unwise, in my opinion, to make as many hostile and bigoted proclamations both individually and collectively as have been made over the last 20 years.

The GOP could easily seize the "Latino" vote, they appear to have done so in certain places in the United States, already.

Uh WRONG. Living here in Houston - where 43.8% are hispanic, I can honestly tell you, they do not relate to rich, white, conservative men. Not even close.

I speak with many online, and Texas is not all of the United States.

you do realize that latinos aren't a monolithic group right? they're not all mexicans and puerto ricans, not all catholic, not all alike.

I'm so glad President Obama won. No more worries about welcoming back pre-existing conditions and lifetime limits! Hopefully he will get to appoint a couple of Supreme Court Justices.

You might consider the "mestizo" catholic cultural background is the dominant and prevalent across all the central and much of the south Americas.

Obama is certainly far superior to Romney regarding any foreign policy matters.

The Republicans in Congress made it their goal to ensure that Obama had ONE TERM.

THEY FAILED MISERABLY.

So, after 4 years of pursuing their Grand Plan To Defeat The Negro Who Doesn't Belong In The White House, they FAILED MISERABLY.

And people want them to continue.

Here's a hint. In 4 years Obama's not going to be there anymore. So why would anyone want the Republicans in congress to continue their pointless goal of ensuring that Obama only gets one term???

That's right. So the Republicans can get Republicans to DONATE MORE MONEY.

Obama is the best Republican Fundraiser they ever had.

Last thing I saw before turning away from the election was the POTUS saying he was going to discuss with Romney ways they could co-operate to "Move the country forward". (As he has been offering on Every issue since taking office.) We'll see if this new Romney (the bi-partisan one just emerged this week?) and Obama prevail or if the spirit of SoH Boehner's, 'Whatever it takes to make Obama's presidency fail' attitude the last 4 years governs how the Congress works. Blaming Obama for not getting things done with the House Speaker and his block willing to sink the economy to create dissatisfaction is just a bit disingenuous. Whatever your politics, the country simply can't afford 4 more years of scorched earth tactics by the Loyal Opposition.
Hopefully along with that would be Obama taking note of several pundits' observation that he has spent less time directly engaged with congressional members than most recent presidents. Every one can do better. We need them ALL to.
