You need to be careful with things like Vapo Rub, Ben Gay, etc. They have an ingredient that when absorbed into the mucous membranes becomes like aspirin....which means it thins the blood and makes it easy to bleed excessively.

I have heard of figging. Does it cause mild to sever pain? I don't eat food with ginger so am unfamilar with it.

Ginger can be anything from mildly warming to fierce and burning almost akin to chilli rubbed into the eyes. I only use it in cooking but apparently it depends which type of ginger root and which part of the root is the strongest. Are you telling me you've never eaten Mexican, Indian, Thai or Chinese food - ever? A lot of the recipes use ginger, especially the various curries.

That kind of stuff (I'm talking Bengay here, but they're both menthol) burns, but it also tingles and can feel pretty good. I have a pretty low pain tolerance, and I enjoy it, as long as it's just a tiny bit. So I can't really see it as a punishment, personally. I guess it depends on your pain tolerance and how much you use.

Of course I've eaten mexican, chinese food but I always stay away from anything on the very spicy side. Thai food, no. I know it contains much more ginger than I like.

My pain tolerance isn't very high. But I like to be p u s h ed. I would love to try Bengay or other oils that cause heat/cold or tingles, mild to heavy.

This is an embarrassing story. When I was around 4, I decided it would be a good idea to put Vicks Vapo Rub all over myself, I mean ALL over. No clue why, other than the fact that my mother was using it on my little brother because he had a cold. She left it out, which was a mistake. It felt good for about a minute and then started burning like hell. I started screaming and my mother ran in and saw her little redhaired girl writhing on the floor with Vicks all over her. She was horrified and mad at herself. She told me it took days to get it out of my hair and she asked the doctor if I hurt anything inside. He said, no but it was not recommended for internal use. So, I don't recommend it. And don't leave it out for curious kids either.
