If you've known her for all these years, why aren't you asking her what it means to her?
For some people it means nothing. For others it's like giving them your fraternity pin, for others it's the equivalent of an engagement ring.

None of us can possibly know what it means to her or what skills she wants you to learn.

I don't know what skills I will be learning about because I a bottom.

That's exactly the point.

Unless you're learning to be a mechanic, cordon bleu chef or a set of Leather Protocols.......you're not really being trained. It's a euphemism that some Dominants use to make up an excuse to beat you and get you to give them an orgasm. It's a cheap trick to get you to perform.

But I know her for four years now. She would not do that to me.

Ok if you've known & played with each other for 4 years, you are WAAAAY past the need for BS like a training collar! I'm going to go with the Domme version of "would you date me".

"She's concerned for you"
"She worries about you"
"She doesn't like that you bottom for others"...yep she's got a crush & is trying to protect what you have now by taking the cowards route of asking you to be hers.

A collar, any collar, in my mind is posession "her property"...question is how do you feel about that? If you want a relationship, ask her what a training collar means to her. If you don't accept, expect she may take her toys home & not play with you anymore

I believe in internet-land, it's the collar after the seldom -if ever- seen Collar of Consideration and the one before the Permanent Collar where you will cherished and owned forevahhhhhhh.

There is a new one, after a week, you throw it in the laundry and it dissolves and leaves your clothes all soft and limp

After a full week I'd hope SOMETHING was soft & limp for a little while!!!

If you have been in a "relationship" for 4 yrs I would think you have already been in training?? To little info to go on. I am no expert by any means, but a training collar certainly means different things to different people.
I feel a little differently, I like the idea of training. Just as others have said, you really need to ask her what it means to her.

Could it possibly be, you are wanting a symbol, something tangible to make you feel content in the relationship?

Here is a serious question

Why now and what exactly does she mean,to,train, you in?

To me, if I belong to a group and people are doing bad things, my solution, isnt to protect my friends but run,the idiots out.

IMO, closer to a "pre-engagement"ring. "Someday, I might ask you to be mine, but until then I want to make sure that you stay with me and don't date other people."

Is it possible that she just used the wrong word? I know that I personally like a trial period. We go on as if it's just normal daily life, of course, but there's always the ability to back out before an actual collar is placed.

However, I could just not know what I'm talking about. I've only ever collared one sub (he's been wearing it for 2 years, out of a 3 year relationship) so I'm not exactly an expert.

Some Dominants use collars of consideration or training collars to mark their territory with little to no commitment from the Dominant. For the most part, they're both considered a joke by the majority of the community.

Huh-who knew it-picked out a collar we both liked and whattya know-it's a permanent collar. Guess I'm stuck with the wench now!

Though posture collars are haaawt-we've been looking for a good one for a while now. I love the way they restrict the neck. They just scream extreme to moi.

We are not in a relationship. It's just only play.

LOL had a temp collar put on me only once but then 6 moths later we found the one he really wanted to put on me but he never asked me to wear a training collar at all. And If I work with a sub myself unless i expect it to be one that might be long term only use a training collar as part of routine during play sessions then remove it when done. I have only put a true collar also myself on one submissive and only took it back when we were no longer together and He meet the true love of his Life........smiles...........but he still has it as a memory of our time together. LOL but thoughts about another sub................well yep strong thoughts............. very strong thoughts and hard consideration going on right now between Him and Me right now.......but puppy collar..............no not likely....but might lead to a real collaring,,,,,,,,,,don't know yet. Everyone has given you sound advise to sit down with her and talk. To me she is wanting to take it to another level, but first you need to know if this is what she wants and then let the others know that this is where the both of you want to go so there is no hard feelings.

I What is a training collar? The reason I asked this question is because the Mistress of the group that i'm part of is very concerned about my health and well being when I play with her or with others. I don't have a D/s relationship with the Mistress. Also what kind of questions should I ask her about me getting collar?

So, by wearing a collar they are going to be more concerned with your health and well being?

We are not in a relationship. It's just only play.

If it is just play then the only reason I can see as a use for a collar is as a restraining point or for use with a leash. Otherwise, collars are usually a sign of ownership.
