ORIGINAL: DesideriScuri Just a point of order here... we live in a republic, not a democracy. We are not simply a "majority rules," or "winner take all" system. You are, actually: that's exactly how a republic appoints its representatives. You might not like who your peers are voting into power, but until you stop using elections to appoint delegates to a government full of elected proxies, then you're still a republic. We are a representative republic. We have democratically elected local representatives, but there can be a disconnect between the popular vote and the electoral college vote for the Executive Branch. That being said, I would prefer our Senators to be chosen by their States, rather than by the Citizens of the State (which was the original system of the US Constitution). Regardless of who gets elected, some will be happy, some will be mad, and some (perhaps a plurality even) will not care enough to vote.
