I believe my brother-in-law is preparing for the dead rising. He and his wife have a plan involving going to a certain place in the desert with tents and guns and supplies, in case of 'emergency'. They're both very fit physically and if anyone could do it, I think they probably could. They mountain climb, explore caves, swim, cycle, run and shoot.

It made me think: would you survive?

I would not. While my basic health and fitness might be passable, that's all I have going for me. Being English I have no access to guns and although I'm not too bad a shot I'd have no idea how to clean or maintain one even if I could get hold of it. Around the house I'd only have kitchen knives which are a bit close range for zombie combat.
Our fairly big car would be hard to maneuver if the roads were blocked and we don't have bikes. It's a fairly high-population area so we probably couldn't hole up here for long (though we'd have a couple of weeks worth of food and such).
I don't have any outdoorsy skills - I wouldn't know how to start a fire or catch a rabbit or identify edible mushrooms.

In a zombie movie I'd be dead before the opening credits. My husband too - even if he survived a while he's diabetic so when he ran out of drugs he'd be gone. Plus we have a baby who would slow us down.

My best hope would be to get into a survivor's camp when hopefully they might trade protection for my general usefulness. I'm pretty sure I could do a reasonable job of cooking, mending things, nursing injuries etc. But I'm not a skilled doctor or mechanic and I doubt my English degree would be much use, so if food is scarce I might not make the cut.

So yeh, I'm gonna be a zombie. Who's with me?

Has he been evaluated for mental illness?

Just to be clear, he hasn't actually stated that he thinks the zombies might rise. It seems to be a fun game for them, planning what they would do in the event of natural disaster/nuclear war/whatever else. It seems to be a natural extension of all their physical outdoor hobbies.

They are eccentric but functional.

Me & my kid (a zombie movie fan) have had this chat & we have it sussed. supersoakers full of petrol. Head to the nearest army base & steal guns & ammo then hole up in the nuclear bunker that's on the camp.  Wait for it to die down.

On a fitness level, I'd be crap. However, I can cook and look after sick people. Oh, and I have more than a few years as an engineer behind me, plus more as a high school teacher. I'd trade my skills for food and shelter.

...and of course sex with those really hunky survival types

Actually this is a good point. As a young fertile female I would be useful for re-population, so maybe the camp would keep me after all.

Got a few rifles but not really trained for zombie attack. Probably hole up in the hospital and hopefully they have enough drugs for me to take due to the bipolar and BPD.

As a significantly less fertile female I would selflessly volunteer to break in the inexperienced. And help the more experienced to hone their technique.

I'm a giver

I would not survive.

I cannot cook, will not be breeding (although I agree with bunny about having sex with hunky hero types) AND I would be first in line for zombies since I am a BBW (more to eat!)

I can cook in many outdoor scenarios, and I'm good with a knife.

I'm unafraid of chopping off the heads (or poking things deeply in the eyeballs) of creatures hell-bent on eating my brains.

Do you have any appealing and nutritious zombie brain recipies?  I think we need to create a backlash here.

Now I'm normally the first to agree that bunny is the first to get eaten, but this is not what I had in mind!!

We joke about the zombie apocalypse when speaking of what we're doing. We're not "preppers" but we actually have started taking the disaster preparedness more seriously.

Last year all of Southern California lost power for about 24 hours (longer in some areas). It drove home how woefully unprepared we were. We only had candles and the only radios were in the cars.

San Diego has not had a serious earthquake in 100 years and the wildfires usually hit further east but tend to take out power lines. We want to be prepared to "bug in" if either of those events change.

We have stocked piled canned goods, bags of rice and beans, water, dog food. We have camping lanterns, a camp stove and plenty of extra ammo.

I have read the The Zombie Survival Guide , and am very good at retaining read information.
That should count for something, right?

Otherwise I am able to cook, have very good first aid and basic medical skills, and keep a good, calm head in emergency situation.
Plus, as I would be fighting for my children I would be more than ruthless.

To decide where to go in case the zombies are comming for us, take a look at this map .
