I was below the average mark on every single thing. I'm telling ya, unless someone takes a fancy to my child-bearing hips and decides to save me, I'm food.

Our house is quite safe. Although it's a populated area, we only have 1 easily accessible glass door. Can shut/lock that bedroom door, so that would help.
However, we do not have a stockpile of anything, really. That is something I should really organise - especially living in a area that does have earthquakes. No idea how to use a weapon, but that's also on the 'to do list'.

I just hope this doesn't actually happen in December. I need a bit more time.

The test was fun but a lot of the questions were goofy. Especially the "what would you take" ones.

To me, skills it missed are things like "what can you build"...nowhere did it ask if you can make fire, or know which ammo goes to which guns, what calibers are common, an idiot with a .357 sig is never going to get ammo. Butchering fish is easy, butchering animals is a lot more tricky. Knowing that tendons ate sinew for bowstrings, etc. plus liver is the most valuable piece.Www

Me, I live on a sailboat, have food and water, guns, and everything I need for a month. San Francisco ya know...its beautiful but its a ticking timebomb.

I believe my brother-in-law is preparing for the dead rising. He and his wife have a plan involving going to a certain place in the desert with tents and guns and supplies, in case of 'emergency'. They're both very fit physically and if anyone could do it, I think they probably could. They mountain climb, explore caves, swim, cycle, run and shoot.

It made me think: would you survive?

I would not. While my basic health and fitness might be passable, that's all I have going for me. Being English I have no access to guns and although I'm not too bad a shot I'd have no idea how to clean or maintain one even if I could get hold of it. Around the house I'd only have kitchen knives which are a bit close range for zombie combat.
Our fairly big car would be hard to maneuver if the roads were blocked and we don't have bikes. It's a fairly high-population area so we probably couldn't hole up here for long (though we'd have a couple of weeks worth of food and such).
I don't have any outdoorsy skills - I wouldn't know how to start a fire or catch a rabbit or identify edible mushrooms.

In a zombie movie I'd be dead before the opening credits. My husband too - even if he survived a while he's diabetic so when he ran out of drugs he'd be gone. Plus we have a baby who would slow us down.

My best hope would be to get into a survivor's camp when hopefully they might trade protection for my general usefulness. I'm pretty sure I could do a reasonable job of cooking, mending things, nursing injuries etc. But I'm not a skilled doctor or mechanic and I doubt my English degree would be much use, so if food is scarce I might not make the cut.

So yeh, I'm gonna be a zombie. Who's with me?

Actually, read the book World War Z. It makes a good argument as to why England was one of the few countries to actually do well in the apocalypse

Cheer up, Coldslayer. Things aren't that bad. In "Night of the Living Dead" A black man almost got out of the movie alive.

http://archive.org/details/Night.Of.The.Living.Dead_1080p

I would survive. At least till the third act. Then, just before Dawn I wander into the woods a short distance. By a stroke of fortune, the horrible noises jolt the campers to their feet seconds before the Zombies charge from every side.

That was one of the things we talked about. We have a .22LR Marlin Rifle with a Nikon scope. .22LR is cheap and plentiful, so we bought a case. It would become the workhorse gun and that scope makes it easy to control. If we need more stopping power we have the AR15 or the 9mm X18 pistol, with 500 rounds a piece set aside.

Original, he gets shot coming out of the cellar. Remake he dies from a gunshot to the chest, and comes out a zombie. Either way, black man = red shirt

As long as you aren't the new guy in the opening scene of a Star Trek episode, you're probably gonna be OK.

I have enough of an arsenal to fend off zombies and any bunny eaters.

Mess with my bunnies and those zombies will be facing Armageddon. Something to be said for all those weekends at the range with a 40 year military vet father ;-)

Supersoakers and acid and shoot them in the mouth, a gummer zombie is a hungry zombie.

Umm... I don't know much about chemistry, but wouldn't the acid dissolve the plastic, too? >.<

As to the question in the op, I'm in a stiuation similar to littlewonder's, being a second story apartment. No floor to ceiling windows, though. Just borrow one of my dad's guns (or maybe have one or two of my own by then).

I could help with cooking and looking after small children, or something along those lines, assuming I'd make it to the survivors camp.

The best guns/caliber are a 22 anything, you can run with 500 rounds in your pocket and its commin ammo.
A 357 revolver, which will shoot 38 special, another common caliber. Abd if you flatten the rims, you can shoot 9mm & .380.
12 guage shotgun
Then even though its a shitty cartridge, .223/5.56 because its common and the military uses it.

Personally, relying on guns to deal with the undead is a bit limited. You will eventually run out of ammo, especially if ya can't get that sweet head shot. Me, give me a good sword or sledge. No ammo to worry about, and even a "bad" hit does real damage. Only downside is, you have to get up close and personal. But hey, that is why we do cardio
