Another good idea is to grab a can of spray paint if nothing else is around - spray the zombie's eyes full which not only blinds them pretty much permanently as their eyes should be drying out anyways, but also negates any sense of smell they might have long enough to escape.

Honestly though, the "undead" zombie just isn't viable for myriad medical and scientific reasons, but what is possible is a weaponized form of rabies, tweaked to stimulate the rage and hungers centers of the brain, and to turn off rational thought and overstimulate adrenaline and endorphin production.
Like the "28 Days" zombies, these still-living humans would attack mindlessly, at full speed, clawing and biting in unthinking hunger, able to spread the virus through their saliva or blood, so getting sprayed by their fluids when you kill them would lead to infection if it contacted mucous membranes, such as getting in the eyes, nose, mouth or any open wounds. They would also be highly resistant to pain or damage on account of the adrenaline/endorphin rush coupled with zero self-preservation instinct, and would only go down after severe trauma.

The good news there is that a great percentage of ragers would still not be in top physical shape or ability, such as the very young, the very old, the overweight, the ones with pre-existing debilitating conditions. Just pray you don't live near a high school football team or a Gold's Gym.

This might be my first piece of good news. Swimming goggles I have in abundance.

After seeing how difficult it will be for me to survive in that kinda new world order...

I think my best bet would be to put on a sexy short dress, thigh highs, heels, give my hair the tossled just-woke-up look.. a lil make-up..

and a big sign that says "I give the best free BJs of yer life"...

and find myself a nice big strong Zombie dude and make a deal with him.. I can be real human dude bait and lure the guys in and while I am on my knees sucking away.. he can come up behind and eat the poor duped dudes (upper) brains... it would be sorta a symbiotic relationship deal.. I'd sorta be a Zombie wing-chic!

Think that would work???

In the case of the cold you could wait until Winter or you could head North. Once you get above the point where freezing temperatures occur nightly, your job is half done. The human body, even a corpse, is still 65 - 85% water, and water freezes. Intercellular fluid in the brain and intercranial fluid around the brain will freeze. Freezing fluids expand, and in the finite space of the cranium the ice crystals will do catastrophic damage to the brain, destroying the zombie completely.

I figure the best solution in a zombie apocalypse is an airship, by the way. An accurate rangefinder to get your altitude and a timer based set of detonators, put in a couple pounds of steel bearing balls and some ANFO, should clear out the larger crowds so you can get people down there to pick up supplies. Wait for the party to die down a bit, then anchor up in a good location and proclaim it the capital of New Cool Place.

No1 NO! They can swim! They can SWIM! I saw it, just now on tv! Rise of the Zombies!

Omg, they were coming out of the ocean and eating people on an island!!! you are not safe anywhere! oh the blood.. the guts n gore! omg! OMG! total chaos!

But there is still some hope.. a scientist might have a cure!
