This is just my take, but I don't think Limbaugh, Beck, Coulter, O'Reilly, or any of their ilk had anything to do with Romney's loss. The majority of their audience is already right-wing conservatives who will vote GOP no matter who is put up. No, I think the reason for Romney's loss is that it took until now for the GOP to realize what the Democrats realized four years ago. The "rich, old, white men tell you what to do" mentality doesn't work anymore. Obama won in '08 over McCain not because Obama's views were a drastic shift away from the normal views of the Democratic party, but because he made a conscious effort to appeal to the 18-34 demographic...the demographic that the GOP has been ignoring, to their detriment, for years. It looks, as of right now, like the biggest competitors in the GOP for '16 are people like Paul Ryan, Rand Paul, Chris Christie, Marco Rubio, and Bobby Jindal. Whether you like or dislike their politics and practices, these men do represent a younger, more diverse set of contenders. These are people that the younger demographic can identify with more easily than they can with the likes of McCain, Romney, Gingrich, and Santorum. If the GOP is smart (and all evidence seems to be to the contrary, given their enthusiastic support of Romney), they will give the nod to someone who can appeal to a wider demographic. The politics of the nation has changed. The makeup of the voters has changed. The Democrats realized this, but the GOP hasn't caught on. They need to catch on, to have a changing of the guard, if they wish to stay relevant.
