Why is the media talking about this so much?

The entertainment value gives them better ratings than the actual news this is replacing.

I think it should have been a non-issue when Clinton cheated.

This part I have to disagree with. President Clinton committed perjury to worm his way out of a sexual harassment lawsuit. That's something that would have landed the rest of us in jail.

Technically, that was a perjury trap and illegal.....

It's the titilation factor. Who knows what interests the main stream media these days. They are like children with shiny objects. As a former reporter, I can tell you the media today is mostly very lazy. The demos know that... think DISTRACTION. The story is not patreus cheating with this ding dong at all. It is Benghazi and the cover up. They put him in at CIA knowing FULL WELL about his trysts... and used that to make him take the fall. It's hilariously easy and transparent, but way above our modern reporters to figure out.

What would we do without such insight ?

I knew if anyone could tell us how the CIA works, it would be you, with your clear bi-partisan intellect.

Wow really? I ask for a different angle and that's the reply I get? That'll teach ME to go looking for other perspectives!

Well, I for one am glad you started the thread :)

Here's why Glenn Greenwald at The Guardian thinks the story matters:

FBI's abuse of the surveillance state is the real scandal needing investigation

That the stars of America's national security establishment are being devoured by out-of-control surveillance is a form of sweet justice

The Petraeus scandal is receiving intense media scrutiny obviously due to its salacious aspects, leaving one, as always, to fantasize about what a stellar press corps we would have if they devoted a tiny fraction of this energy to dissecting non-sex political scandals (this unintentionally amusing New York Times headline from this morning - "Concern Grows Over Top Military Officers' Ethics" - illustrates that point: with all the crimes committed by the US military over the last decade and long before, it's only adultery that causes "concern" over their "ethics"). Nonetheless, several of the emerging revelations are genuinely valuable, particularly those involving the conduct of the FBI and the reach of the US surveillance state.

Why is the media talking about this so much? I think it should have been a non-issue when Clinton cheated. Also when Anthony Weiner was sending Weiner-grams to everybody. Sooo.. am i missing something? How is his sleeping with some chick relevant to my life in any way?

I'll tell you.

It's the first known documented case wherein which a General was led by his privates.

That`s illegal and why Clinton was never charged with perjury.

"Little Head"

Songwriters: JOHN HIATT I'm dirty as a man hole cover
I'm lookin for my long lost lover
She turned me out and now I'm sinkin'
I'm just so easily led when the little head does the thinkin'

I'm talking with a tight red sweater
I'm feelin' like eddie vedder
Only twice as cool when she starts winkin'
I'm just so easily led when the little head does the thinkin'
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsfreak.com/j/john+hiatt/little+head_20074155.html ]
I'm loyal as a dog but I'm a hog for that sexual attraction
It starts up in my mind and makes a bee line below the belt
No consequences just satisfaction

Baby in my heart I'm faithful
This two headed monster is so distasteful
Forgive me when my instincts start stinkin'
I'm just so easily led when the little head does the thinkin'
I'm just so easily led when the little head does the thinkin'
Think about it...

Forgive me if my instincts start stinkin'
I'm just so easily led when the little head does the thinkin'

I've held a security clearance. A major part of that was not being blackmailable. I've long been pissed off that elected officials and cabinet appointees had access to major secrets and yet did not have to undergo any security clearance investigation.

Yeah, for sure. You couldn't clearance for a job as a janitor at the CIA if you were having an affair. Why should the director get a pass?

That being said, I think most of the play this story is getting is just sensationalizing to get news ratings.

slutbiboyforuse -> RE: Petraeus -- Why do we care? (11/15/2012 1:24:47 PM)

if this were a GOP administration we would already know about the prison they had in the consulate. which is why it got attacked.

not because of the 'spontaneous' riots that just happened to erupt in several countries, but unfortunately not the one the attack took place.

now we have a sex scandal of the guy who could very well break this whole thing wide open. teach you to screw with the regime.

ill bet they would get higher rating by telling us what really happened in bengazi and asking the tough, real questions to the administration, and not accepting ridiculous answers.

Dude, the GOP administration didn't even know where the WMD were.

Epic Fail.

From what I hear she has her own security clearance.

Having a "security" clearance does not mean she was cleared, nor had the need to know everything the General was privy to.
Now I don't,and you don't ,know what she had access to,and how big the failure. She did tell an audience last week that she had full clearance to his office, and that it was her "responsibility" to not reveal classified material.
That isn't how its supposed to work,Pataeus better hope she was just talking out of her ass there.

Yes, just proving that tough, real questions have been asked before and we have, sadly, accepted ridiculous answers......[:D]

We'll know in a week or two. Stories like this are all over the place. The networks just post anything they hear. Whether its verified yet or not.

Would you mind refreshing my memory? I can't recall Ken Starr's participation in the sexual harassment lawsuit.
