Yes, the company is shutting down and there goes the Twinke. (can't spell right now, mind is blown).

This affects my Ding Dong obsession. I should of grabbed some today but I have no place to hide them in this house. Even the kids know where I hide the chocolate Bliss.

Now we will find out if they really can last forever! lol I plan to buy a bunch for my son. I wish I could eat just one last one, though I know I will pay for it. I so love those bad, bad cakes!

I heard that someone will most likely buy them out and still produce them. I sure hope so. To think of life without them forever was one thing when it was a medical choice, but to never have the choice to suffer to have one... that's some scary shit there.

Little do most people know that Wonder Bread also makes several stores brands, such as the Walmart brand of bread,at least they do in Memphis,Tn.Believe me,I used to haul flour to the Wonder Bread plant in Memphis,Tn and on many of the brands the only difference is the packaging. Before that I hauled to the Colonial and Kroger[chain grocery store] bakeries [before both bakeries closed] and have seen Colonial baking Wonder and Kroger bread[yes, there were certain items that the other bakery had to send over and they used the original bakeries mix] and seen the others making bread for the other bakeries.I'm not sure how other bakeries are set up now,but the ones I have been to don't have a lot of extra capacity to increase production to cover hole that Wonder bread is going to leave. So be prepared to pay more at the store...groan

Give a hands up to the unions...they sure showed Hostess....knocked 'em to the ground eh?

18,500 laborers out of work.

Something tells me the union leaders will be carving a fat turkey next week.

All hail the unions.....YEAH!

I've been watching this report on an off all day. Am I the only one shaking My head in disbelief that all of these people no longer have a livelihood?

The Twinkie shall rise again.

Even if Hostess is no longer a company, the recipe and manufacturing techniques have value and will be sold to another bakery.

So, no more Zingers, either.

Couldn't they just sell the formula and trademark to some other company? That way, there could still be Twinkies (and Zingers, Ding Dongs, etc.), but just sold by another company.

I don't think so...I suspect there are now 18,500 individuals saying the exact same thing.

I'm sure you're right. 6 month to year and the twinkies will be back. THE TWINKIES MUST FLOW.

This is what usually happens as part of liquidation. The rush on products vs regular sales is what purchase price is based off of.

Know twinkies, ho-ho's (my fave), ding dongs, snow balls & zingers are part of this. Know I've gotten wonder bread & orowheat at same store but didn't hear if they were part of the shut down

From what I understand the union has been telling the workers that if they continue the strike Hostess is serious about selling off and want the workers to have a secret ballot. So you can't blame the union they are telling the workers the truth... It is the workers themselves... I guess they will get what they deserve then.

Here is a quote from USA Today:

"The Teamsters union is urging the bakers union to hold a secret ballot on whether to continue striking. Citing its financial experts who had access to the company's books, the Teamsters say that Hostess' warning of liquidation is "not an empty threat or a negotiating tactic" but a certain outcome if workers keep striking."

Butch

ps... It is not just the workers that are a problem for Hostess but the cost of sugar and flour as well as the changing tastes of Americans. I used to eat a lot more twinkies.

The banana-cream Twinkie was the best!!!

I toured the Hostess Bakery in Michigan when I lived there. They brought out trays of fresh baked treats at the end of the tour and let everyone pig out... I mean, sample there goods.

LOL yeah the workers won't get their jobs back, but it won't be long before we can all buy Twinkies again. It's important to keep our priorities straight.

RS,at the plant in Memphis,Tn up in the top floor break room, they had several racks of every snack cake Wonder bread/Hostess made.I could eat all I wanted as long as I ate them in the break room.I always enjoyed my job of delivering flour there...the smell of the place was awesome! To the ones that like Ding Dongs and can find them before they sell out, they do freeze very well...I'm not sure about the other snack cakes.

punisher . . . I remember the aroma of the bakery too. It was awesome... so are Ding Dongs. I had a slave that loved those. She ate them with hot sauce because she saw Zippy the Clown do it, tried it as a joke and loved it.

ETA: Actually, it was Zippy the Pinhead. A comic strip character that wore a clown suit. I guess I am really dating myself if I had a slave that liked Zippy.

I prefer my Ding Dongs out of the fridge or freezer. All that crispy crunchy chocolate.

Oh, and Lay's Potato Chips are part of the Hostess family as well.

The Lay's company is under Frito Lay in the US, not Hostess.

And I believe Hostess in Canada is an entirely different company than Hostess in the USA.
