MyHazelLabyrinth -> volcanic hangover....how to ease it away? (11/18/2012 5:12:49 AM)

I was a foolish duck today and last night, and drank just a "little" too much.

This topic i think is what most people can relate to at some point. Cos we're all human, and sometimes do stupid things for the sake of the short term effects rather than focusing moreso on the long term effects.

So i'm so far, trying to drink my weight in water.

But what should i stay away from? In terms of liquids? and foods? and what foods would be a good idea?
I've read that some say fatty, greasy foods. But i really want to be healthy on this. And not pump more crap into my body lol (=

I'm asking here because i like talking to humans, and google has conflicting answers, and i reallllllllllly dont want to prolong how i'm feeling, if i can.

Thanks for reading =D

If I can stand the cooking smell a big fat fry up. Milk not coffee. Paracetamol. Then go drink a few more & hey ho human again.

I have no idea how to fix it after it is there, but I alway drink a lot of water the night before, take advil, and eat at the Waffle House before going home.

Good luck. I know water seems to get ya high again, if I recall correctly.

Eggs. You don't have to make them greasy. Scrambled eggs are gentle on the stomach and will help. Banana is also really good - banana and peanut butter on toast will get your body revving.

Also if you can, a sports drink will help you get hydrated. And then a walk in the fresh air.

From what I know.......the hangover has something to do with the booze actually dehydrating a person. Which makes sense to me as I've never had a hangover.

I often wondered why, thinking that I was, somehow, speeeeeshulllll.

Well, because I am a total booze lightweight I've always drank a lot of water along with whatever alcoholic beveri I am sipping. Sure, I've been tipsy, and even pretty fucking drunk.........to the point of fertilizing shrubbery. But I am always fine in the am. Well, when I read about the dehydration thing, I put it together with my affection for good old H2O, and it makes sense.

Which does nothing AT ALL to assist with the already present hangover. BUT, it might be something to consider next time you imbibe.

You rarely see the French wankered to the same extent as the Brits, ditto Italians in my experience & the do drink bottled water as they go

water is a must for a hangover. it is better if you drink it between bevvies, but in th am too. the hangover is caused by lack of fluid in the brain, so get as much in you as you can early on. the thing about eating food is that it really doesn't matter what it is as long as it has some salts in it. alchol strips the body of electrolytes too, so the fry up puts the salt back. better still have a sports drink designed to rehydrate the body.

FR:

Re-hydrate with the understanding you *can* drink too much water, as a matter of fact, it can kill you !

To re-balance your electrolytes think salt and sugar. A non-diet ginger ale works well, especially when combined with the scrambled eggs and toast as recommended above.

DO NOT take Tylenol as a pain reliever when you've been drinking; it is very bad for your liver when combined with alcohol.

Once you have your stomach settled down, go for some caffeine.

If the above doesn't work, it's hair of the dog time.

A real "kill or cure" hangover fix that works for me is eating a raw lemon or lime. If you're already feeling queasy, though, that might not be a good way of keeping your stomach lining where it belongs.
CP's post above sounds pretty good. Sugar and salt are always a good move, as the hangover isn't just dehydration.

while true, it's highly unlikely that anyone with a hangover is going to be capable of drinking too much water.

to put this in prespective; a baby would have to drink 6-8 full bottles of water a day for this to happen on top of what they would normally have.

your kidneys can deal with 15ish ltrs of fluid a day, we drink 2. it's not so much about how much you drink, but about drinking over time rather than all at once. it's also what can make you sick; drinking too much too quickly....and i'm talking water here not alchol. the problem really comes from not eating when drinking water.

so yeah, the advice about salts and sugars is cool, but drinking too much water is unlikely as most people stop drinking if feeling ill. drinking too much water is usually something that occures with an illness that makes you feel thirsty constantly.

so, drink water, fruit juice, and eat. if you can't eat then at least drink a sport rehydration drink. sorted.

When I was a kid and drank, my hangover recovery recipe was a cup of tea English style (Creme and sugar) to calm the tummy, and a joint to ease the aching mind.
Worked wonders
Other than that, the only cure I can give is to go exercise, sweat that fucker out

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: volcanic hangover....how to ease it away? (11/18/2012 8:40:38 AM)

I didn't say it was probably, merely possible. And the issue is drinking too much water at one time, and most especially if you do not replace the salt you lost as well.

quote:

"The kidneys of a healthy adult can process fifteen liters of water a day! You are unlikely to suffer from water intoxication, even if you drink a lot of water, as long as you drink over time as opposed to intaking an enormous volume at one time.

It's not really how much water you drink, but rather how fast you drink it.
Normally, a person requires about 3 quarts of water each day where most of it is from food so 8-12 8oz glasses a day is the recommended intake."

quote:

The truth is, too much water and not enough salt can kill you. Most people know that dehydration can cause serious health consequences. What most don’t realize is that too much of a good thing — WATER — can also be dangerous, even deadly.

Over-drinking doesn't just cause dehydration, it causes an imbalance in your electrolytes; which is why sports drinks (if and when you can stomach them) are typically recommended for a hangover.

Pedialyte for baby dehydration, mixed with some sprite for stomach settling carbonation. Crackers, potatos & grease are all recommended to bind to the alcohol & extra sugars/acids. Idea is to give it something to bind too for a good ole hang over puke or cleansing dump...wow really said that? Ah well college knowledge still good for something!

absolutchocolat -> RE: volcanic hangover....how to ease it away? (11/18/2012 1:52:37 PM)

water, herbal tea with lemon, and V8 are all things i've used to lessen the effects of a hangover.

as far as healthy food goes, oatmeal, fresh fruit, tuna salad, or yogurt are all things i usually eat the morning after. i also pop some omega-3 tablets for good measure, and i'm up and running in no time.

Hair of the dog that bit you, fry or something as unhealthy, paracetamol and a nap, never fails :)

Well, it's late in the day; so, you've probably managed it. I'll bet you still feel a bit oogy, though. I used to, when I was a younger lass, until I chanced upon this method of circumventing a hangover, regardless of how much I drank. (I could down 20 mixed drinks in a night, as a cocktail waitress/bartemptress - and I was only 5'2" and weighed 110 lbs (about 7 1/3 stone). You could consider trying this, in the future:

I would take two aspirin with a 10-12oz glass of water, before heading to bed. Made sure I got at least 6 hours of sleep. Never had a problem, the next day. I don't and couldn't drink even 1/4 that, at this stage in my life. Chemistry changes, and all that. Keep that in mind, as you head into your 30s.

Something restorative to try, also, is a teaspoon of balsamic or apple cider vinegar in a tall glass of water. I've been surprised at how refreshing it is. As for food, don't eat anything that the thought of makes you want to regurgitate. One's body tends to know better what will suit than one's brain.

If you must drink coffee, tea, or other diuretic, make sure you drink at least 6 ozs of plain water to counteract the effects. Your body is trying to recover from fluid loss and those will make things worse, if consumed alone.

Others have advised, rightly, not to drink too much water, either, as that can be problematic, as well. Whatever you do, don't force anything into your system.

Enjoy!

Plenty of water, plenty of sleep, some food with pickled vegetables, and this.
