Ron Paul is still in office.. An Independent who ran for President under the GOP Newt Gingrich isnt that long out of office... lol... Strom is out of office only because he is deceased. Under President Lyndon Johnson, who had an intimate knowledge of the inner workings of Congress, liberal Democrats, together with Republicans led by Senate Minority Leader Everett Dirksen, who convinced all but six Republicans to vote for cloture on the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This vote broke a Southern filibuster led by Senators Robert Byrd (D-WV) and Strom Thurmond (D-SC). Though a greater percentage of Republicans than Democrats (about 80% versus 60% respectively) voted for cloture and for the bill, the 1964 GOP Presidential nominee, Barry Goldwater (R-AZ), voted against cloture; before his presidential campaign Goldwater had supported civil rights legislation but opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 on constitutional grounds. The GOP was massively defeated in 1964, but recovered its strength in the congressional elections of 1966, and elected Richard Nixon president in 1968. Throughout the 1954-1980 era the Republicans were a minority in both the House and Senate. If you are related to Strom, you know the power he held in the south.

"This is the harshest penalty the Party can impose, and it is more than justified in this situation."[13] There are ways of dealing with it, if the party desires too.

The first thing to remember is democrats/leftists/progressives/socialist/communists (whatever they call themselves today) do not believe in the same things as I do or other Americans like me. They could give a rats ass if people lose their jobs because their corrupt union thug bosses just made the company go bankrupt or sell out. They could care less about job creation. They care about BRUTE STRENGTH. Power. That's it. Reward your friends, political payoffs for "green energy" and the like, and punish (tax) your enemies (you know, the producers of wealth). As a Republican and more importantly a conservative, we need to fully understand that. I'm not interested in "compromise" with the devil. Let them compromise with each other. Compromise to the left means SHUT UP, DO IT OUR WAY, YOU ARE ALL HOMOPHOBES/RACISTS (fill in the blank). So spare me that nonsense about them caring for the little guy. They are the party of crony capitalism, big business that wants regulation because they would never survive under capitalism. Government Motors is a perfect example. We should NEVER EVER have bailed them out. Let them go through bankruptcy. They did the deal with the devil (the UAW) years ago as a strategy to fend off labor violence. And if they go belly up, they go belly up. Just because you are big and in business doesn't promise survival. You need failure in the system to clean it out now and then.
