TheHeretic -> Maybe it's time... (11/26/2012 6:01:14 PM)

So on Thanksgiving, while the wife's family was telling old stories, I slipped out for a smoke, and a couple holiday calls to my own faraway kin, and I wound up having one of those slightly evil conversations with my favorite cousin. We do that. One overt act would make any number of them qualify for federal conspiracy charges, but we're just playing, and I assume the NSA figured that out a long time ago. He may have hit on something this time. He says I'm cynical enough now, that I should jump the conservative ship, and go back to being a liberal. Rather than starting my own business, as I've had in the back of my mind for a long while, his thought is I should start a non-governmental organization. Instead of putting my own little nest egg at risk, or getting a small business loan with those pesky payments, apply for a community development block grant, and let my new favorite uncle load up the bank account for me. Of course, being a Native American certainly isn't going to hurt with that. Too many poor people just aren't capable of doing things for themselves, and I feel like I can help. The homeless are good. You can run into all sorts of problems with renting a crappy house, in a crappy neighborhood, and then re-renting the rooms, but if you call it a "sober-living facility," you can stack them two, even four, to a room, and the appropriate government agencies not only steers the tenants to you, they'll even direct deposit the rent. Counseling services are extra, of course. It's easy to evict them, too, for, "program violations," if they get uppity about how long it takes to get the toilet unclogged. These people need shelter, you know? Employees? Forget that, "hiring and providing benefits," stuff. Temporary stimulus employment takes care of all that for you. That's funded by a much bigger grant, and, like the Obamaphone, you just gotta sign up, if you meet the criteria. A government contracted agency, funded by a grant big enough for a 1%er to be impressed, will train and screen the help for you, and pay their salaries, in exchange for providing them with valuable work experience. What a blessing from our benevolent government. Yeah, maybe it's time. Obama won. America has spoken. I live in the Peoples Republic of California. No point letting the gravy train leave the station without me.
