ORIGINAL: Alumbrado Amazing how some of the people who claim to loathe Coulter, Franken, Limbaugh, Carville, and other partisan spinmonkeys, waste so much time obsessing over their every word and gesture, and fixate on their most intimate personal details. It'd be nice to ignore these dolts, I agree. But people like Coulter are culturally relevant because of the media exposure they get. Sure, it's part of a circus side show meant to detract from real issues, but then some of what Coulter says is so far gone that people must feel obliged to oppose her madness. The bigger problem is that Coulter is given a pass by the media, as if she weren't actually infectiously insane. And of course, that's part of the whole entertainment as news or as editorial approach to things - they just want to give you something to scream about. No one in their right mind actually thinks Coulter is a serious commentator on any basis. I find her very contrived - her whole point is "Look at me! Look at me! I'm SO controversial!" BTW, I wouldn't put Franken in with these others - I find him generally far more even-handed. But then I think Democrats are actually the middle and the Republicans the far right at this point. Agreed.... I grew up on political and social satirists and IMNSHO, none of these media infotainment spin people could hold a candle to Mencken, Gregory, Zappa, Swift, Clemens, Voltaire et. al, so pardon me if I don't draw finer distinctions between the current bunch.
