TheWriter13 -> What kind of books do you like reading? (11/29/2012 8:09:44 AM)

I personally am a fan of mysteries and supernatural genres.

I have always been an avid reader.  I can usually be found with a fiction novel or 4 in my car to read at work.  :)

I also enjoy biographys, and the occasional non fiction.  I prefer light reading to 'de~stress' my day.  The best book I have ever read was Angels & Demons..........for me, it was one of those I just could not put down.   Far better than the movie.

I'd love to say something sophisticated like, "Classical philosophy texts in their original language." To my undying shame though, I'm going to have to go with "Something with either spaceships or dragons in it. Bonus points for both."

I'm reading The Tale Of Genji at the moment, classed by some as the world's first novel. I got to reading this because my daughter is studying Japanese aat the moment and I've been taking an interest in Japanese literature through her.

Now you tell me. That's the kind of novels I used to write.

I will read a bit of everything, but I prefer fantasy, science fiction, a smart mystery, philosophical texts in English (I'm lazy),
poetry, mythology, science texts, and comic books that cost less than three bucks when they were printed (old school is the best).

cordeliasub -> RE: What kind of books do you like reading? (11/29/2012 10:21:28 AM)

I love.....historical fiction, mystery, humor, suspense/thriller, romance, erotica, poetry, and some fantasy. I will pretty much read anything except a math textbook. Oh and I won't read anything written by someone on any extreme end of the political spectrum because I end up throwing the book across the room.

I think the servers are hungry...

Basically anything I can get my hands on except political crap. I am always being bombarded with ads on political running and that is enough to turn me off...

Jeff, check out the Freedom series by McCaffrey. Mom got it for me last year after the author died.

I love science fiction, science fantasy, urban fantasy, books with werewolves, vampires, zombies, fairies - pretty much that isn't based in fact. I'll pretty much read everything including cereal boxes, but won't read cowboy stories.

I have to say that i love books, but my sweetie gave me a kindle, and because i'm sensitive to his feelings, i've been using it - a lot! And i love it. I love the convenience of it, and getting to carry a couple of hundred books around in my bag. I love being able to buy a large variety of porn books without having to worry about brown paper wrappers. I love being able to buy books for a few bucks -or nothing.
I'm so prolific at Amazon that i'm on my third kindle for no charge. The first one had an unfortunate incident with a parrot with more beak than brains.[8|] The second had an electrical failure of some description. They have been wonderful! [:D]

I have books that i got when i was 8 or so, and some of my best loved books are kids books - like Susan Coopers Arthurian series, and the CSLewis books of Narnia.

I want somethink light but not stupid when i read anymore. If i wanted too much reality, i'd look at my checkbook balance. *sigh* Books are so cool!

Right, I'll repeat what I put on earlier before it got eaten.

I love books. Always have done since I was a kid, and always will for as long as I can. There's not really many kinds of books I don't like. I do prefer to read horror, science fiction, biographies, autobiographies, non fiction, fantasy, children's stories (Brother's Grimm, etc), and I also love to read comics. Lots of comics.

I'll pretty much read anything if it's good, but it all depends who's recommending it. I tend to only go on the recommendations of people I trust and who I know have good taste. [8D]

Have you read Our Lady Of Darkness by Fritz Leiber? It's a wonderful urban fantasy/not quite horror novel from the '70s that does the sort of stuff Peter Straub has spent a lot of his career on, only better.
And it has walk on parts for several pulp writers who were based in San Francisco and Ernest Hemmingway...

Hi, my name is ydd, and I am a book whore. I freely admit that there isn't much I won't read.

I'm a classic book reader, I can sit on the beach and read Tolstoy all day or Sergey Aksakov...

At the moment I'm reading the Frog who wouldn't jump with my 3 year old....

thishereboi -> RE: What kind of books do you like reading? (11/30/2012 7:15:36 AM)

Mainly mysteries and fantasy. Right now I am working my way through the Scarpetta series by Patricia Cornwell, but Joan Hess is still my favorite.

zubedangina -> RE: What kind of books do you like reading? (11/30/2012 7:16:44 AM)

I love reading as well. I prefer to read science fiction and fantasy. I really enjoy Ray Bradbury, Mark Twain, and Orson Scott Card. My favorite book is The Margaret's by an author I don't usually like... Sheri S Teper. I love Star Wars books. To be more well rounded, I am trying to get myself to read more non fiction, when I do, it tends to be science or psychology related. At the behest of an old Master, I had started reading some more history related books such as Lies my Teacher Told me and Guns, Germs, and Steel. They are not as fun though.

needlesandpins -> RE: What kind of books do you like reading? (11/30/2012 7:25:20 AM)

i love my books. so much so that i have refused to have various ebooks several times. reading for me is not just about the words, it's about the feel of the book too, and the differing weights and textures of the paper. even the smell of the book is important to me.

as for topic; that could be anything. i love reading equestrian books to expand my knowledge. however, i mostly read fiction that allows my imagination to work. i like an author who can write well enough to give me enough information for me to put myself in the book, but not so much that i can't fill anything in for myself. i'm a very mentally visual reader creating my own mental video as i read almost like i am following the people in the books around like a ghost.

mostly i'll pick horror ala james herbert, clive barker, or old king (his newer stuff seems rather....erm not so good as the old), or science fiction that has a healthy dose of real science in it. other than that i'll go for something along the lines of lord of the rings, or for ease, harry potter.

I go through phases - but I will always love a good mystery. The last really good book that I read was Gone Girl. I'm a fickle reader - having a Kindle, it's so easy to start a dozen books, finish only a couple, before starting a bunch more - but I read this one cover to cover, I'm embarrassed to admit, in almost one sitting.

littlewonder -> RE: What kind of books do you like reading? (11/30/2012 10:34:42 AM)

History, science, biographies, but I will read just about anything that sounds interesting to me. I'm currently reading "The Casual Vacancy" by J.K. Rowling.
