Status: offline 		America has its illegal migrants' problem but it's nothing on the deluge we're receiving in Australia. Using the mantra 'political persecution' we have hordes flooding in from Sri Lanka now, not just the usual thousands from Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran and Pakistan.

The Sri Lankan people smugglers are now discounting their tariff from $10,000 to a cheap $500 in order to fill up the leaky boats.

It's always easier to deport "illegal immigrants" when you dehumanize them (refer to them as 'buggers' or 'these people' on whom tax payer dollars are 'wasted.')

Mass deportations are expensive and logistically challenging, but natives often favor such measures without wanting to pay the costs.

The USA was built by and made into a great nation through immigration. One key to any good policy is figuring out how to open the door to the right people who are hungry and motivated to improve themselves and their new nation. Historically, too, the last wave of immigrants is 'blamed' for the current ills of the USA, a trend that peaks during recessions or difficult times.

A) They were here legally,

and

B) They assimilated, turned away from their native language and embraced fully an American culture

Status: offline 		Nobody's opposed to immigration per se, we're all migrants after all, so-called natives included. However, it's the illegals we object to. We've no idea who these people are, destroying their IDs or giving them to the snakeheads to on-sell on the black market. Many of them are fugitive Tamil Tigers clearing out of Sri Lanka to escape prosecution and regroup in Australia in order to re-establish their terrorist network for another go back in Sri Lanka.

As for costs of repatriation/deportation - that's infinitismal compared to the welfare bill over many years. Currently the Australian Govt gives $3,000 to everyone who volunteers returning to Sri Lanka. Cheap at the price to get rid of them!

Manpower to round them up.... costs of determining who is and who isnt legal. Court battles and delays in departure. The actual cost of getting out of the country. Not to mention the one's who return.

Don't forget we don't know who these people are, seeing as they destroy their IDs, a suspicious act in itself as they try to convince us of their latest stories.

How dare you question the motives of anyone that comes into your country?

If anyone "manages" to get into your country, they must be okay or they would not be there, right?

Status: offline 		Well, I'm a lefty, or thought I was, but was never was as silly as those who currently wave the lefty banner.
To me, the old-style lefties had sensible notions based on real politics and economics, not all sorts of airy-fairy social engineering psych games like some of the chancers who tend to populate these social networks.

Being seen as being of the 'left' is suddenly very fashionable amongst weak-minded and impressionable wannabes.
