Trying to keep irresponsible people from killing and maiming innocent people is a manipulative political goal? I thought it mostly a humanitarian reaction to the incredible tragedy America seems to feel is an acceptable price for young men to get beer down at all possible times. How does telling the truth become manipulation? I'd prefer for beer and liquor ads to be banned from TV and kids from about 4th grade on to do regular stints helping out in ER/trauma wards, brain injury rehab centers, lung cancer wards and some time helping the paraplegics from amputations caused by foot infections that so many diabetics and the simply obese get. If they are going to make good life decisions, I Want them to know what reality is from the choices people make. Reality isn't manipulation. Altering perceptions of reality with advertising for the products that are killing us is. The ads help, some. Some actual political will to stop the murder might do more? The Police know where people are getting drunk. It's child's play to stop them shortly after they leave parking lots. My favorite is simple. You blow over the numbers, your car is now city property, sold at auction to help pay the civic bills. No appeal, no lawyers, no waiting. You walk home or take a taxi, your car is Gone. In N. Europe, you lose your license for 6 months first offense? Jail time second offense? It's well over $2000 for the private school to get license qualified again? It's not suspended, it's Revoked. You have to start from zero, and their system actually trains drivers.
