Uh, some of us gun owners are screaming for a set standard for firearms laws across the country.

Yes, I'm well aware of this. Not that it's likely to ever happen, especially with that whole state's rights thing. It's been brought up countless times regarding a national CCW system but getting states to agree on anything is worse than getting forum members to agree.

quote:

I mean Texas has an open carry law, which means I can carry a weapon in plain view, without a permit or attending any kind of firearms training course.

Yes, I'm also perfectly aware what open carry is.

That scares me.

Lots of things scare me. Willful ignorance and blind zealotry more than most.

Let me explain something here.

I am ex military, gun owner, and ex law enforcement. I have seen uzi's in the hands of gang bangers. In the military I have been shot at with everything from an AK47, a soviet ww2 carbine and in a couple of instances bolt action surplus Turkish mousers.

I dont care what kind of gun it is, if the bullet hits you, you are just as dead.

Let me tell you what the assault weapon ban did. All it did was to keep more from being made in the Us and prevented more from being imported. It did nothing to prevent the ones sitting in warehouses already in the states from being sold. It did not do anything about semi automatic pistols you can slap a 20 round magazine into and go to town with.

In other words it did nothing it was supposed to do. The ATF said it, the Justice Department said it, and a Harvard study said it.

Now the second coming of that ban is all you are going to get. And that is not going to affect the ones already made in warehouses and in private hands.

Tazzy suggested making it illegal to keep em in the house. Never happen, some lawyer for the NRA will prove that is infringement of the second amendment.

Unfortunately, the NRA has nothing but money and lawyers to fight this kind of fight.

That is the real reason I started this thread. To prove the futility of trying to stop something that short of elimination, cant be done.

No one is ever going to agree on eliminating the second amendment, and no one is ever going to agree to get rid of abortion.

Just like no one is going to agree to the suggestion I made in this thread to keep illegal aliens from walking across the desert into the states with back packs full of cocaine.

If it would really save one kids life, I would gladly go back to bow hunting and give up every gun I own. But what are you going to do about the hundreds of thousand stolen guns already on the streets and those thousands that come into the country undetected. Please tell me that.

You were shot at by Turkish cats? How strange. It's a shame there isn't a law prohibiting that. I wonder what the preferred rifle of mousers are; perhaps one of the Meowsin-Nagant variants?

Really? Is that how bullets work? Thanks, that's some good learnin' right there. I'll try to remember that for the next class I teach.

I'm not going to bother quoting the rest because, quite frankly, I have no idea why you've decided to put on the mantle of Captain Obvious here. You're not telling me anything I don't already know and unless this is just some kind of exercise in free association on your part, what is your deal? I know what the 1994 AWB encompassed. I know that it accomplished nothing but make pre-ban owners a bunch of money. I know a new ban would do nothing to stem the flow of illegal firearms into the country or affect those already here. Why do you persist in belaboring the painfully obvious when to the best of my recollection, I've never said anything to the contrary about any of that?

On the table is the 2nd amendment.

For letting this go, in return an amendment to the constitution banning abortions in the United States and the repeal of the 19th amendment, and for my fanatic right wing Christians, a partial repeal of the 1st amendment, in essence a complete ban on pornography, prayer allowed in schools, and an acknowledgement that the United States is a Christian nation under God.

If I am willing to give up gun ownership, and since I am Catholic, I am against the idea of abortion. I want a few things in return. To me it sounds reasonable.

I'd love to see a ban on weapons, but for a selfish reason, I want to see the Supreme Court actually have to rule on the interpetation of the law. (they have since inception avoided like the plague wrapped in the aids virus)

I think the NRA and others who are proponents of guns would be surprised, based on how interpetation of the legal rights and to whom they pertain is seen, based on the writing of the law.

A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State....It was writen with this to keep states safe from such things as Native and Slave uprisings, but the constitution also banned

states from having standing armies. So they had to have state provided protection on a volunteer basis, I don't think that the courst wishes to really deal with the amendment which would explain the lack of rulings that would construe an interpetation fo the law.

Of course now, you have to throw in the new interpetation I have heard, that it was to protect people from the a peacful, and justly elected government,,(fear the Black Man in the Big White House)...
