It would be easier to have a discussion on how certain people who shouldn't have fireams could be screened for at time of purchase if some people (coughcoughcouopcoughcough) didn't throw all these red herrings into the mix. The imaginary license to buy a vehicle is a false equivalency.

So, treat gun ownership and public carry of guns as 2 distinct cases, and logically evaluate how much and what sort of training and evaluation would offer a rational chance of reducing tragic incidents.

Isn't it popular in some circles to treat the two as a single case, and any kind of screening or regulation as the thin end of a wedge that's inevitably going to lead to a complete firearms ban and the repeal of the second amendment, though?

Actually, I am not using the driver's license as a comparison except that a car is, when operated correctly, less dangerous than a gun, and you need a license for a car. Why not a gun?

Moonhead -> RE: Did you know? (12/20/2012 5:28:37 AM)

I wasn't talking about you, effendi: you're the very model of a responsible gun owner, as you've demonstrated time and again on these boards.

You are of course referring to someone that used to own a full sized working replica of a civil war cannon.

Moonhead -> RE: Did you know? (12/20/2012 7:17:49 AM)

Nothing wrong with that. You'd have trouble using it for a mugging or housebreaking.

Powergamz1 -> RE: Did you know? (12/20/2012 8:52:48 AM)

There is no US state that requires an automobile owners license just to buy a car. Operators/drivers licenses have nothing to do with purchasing one.

Why do you keep bringing up that patently incorrect assertion, and refuse to discuss the actual issue of how to screen out problematic gun owners?

It is popular in some circles to claim all sorts of things.
Does that mean that no one should try to discuss this specific issue more rationally?

I would say both a gun and a car when operated properly are about as dangerous the car perhaps a little more so. but that could be explained away as cars are used far more often so they cause a lot more death and destruction.

~FR

New York state requires a vehicle to be insured once its purchased.

jlf1961 -> RE: Did you know? (12/20/2012 4:54:49 PM)

So what you are saying is that guns and cars are just about equal in the danger department?

Lucylastic -> RE: Did you know? (12/20/2012 4:59:25 PM)

Im not saying anything.

I would suggest with the volume of drivers on the road, Tazzy is saying cars are safer.

Thats without stating the obvious about how cars are rarely used as a murder weapon.

I meant Lucy, the similar arses confuse me......LOL

Didn't mean to imply he was just that for a man not to be able to tell women's asses apart is a sign that the mental faculties are diminishing.
