The link is from Fox News, and the author is a black guy who works for Fox News. If that makes anybody want to automatically reject it because of that, then it would be especially important for them to read the piece. Robert Griffin III, Rob Parker and the sad truth about our racial politics We can find similar discussion, regarding the recent appointment of a Republican Senator, who happens to black, in South Carolina. Just how racist is it, to tell an individual that they must represent their race, before their conscience and values?

First let me say that even though I tend to lean liberal on most issues I have much respect for black conservatives. As a black person who is into goth, renaissance faires, and D&D I often get called "not black enough" by some, worse when it's my own family. I don't think these people realize the implications. When a black person tries to use behavior to decide what makes a person "one of us," they justify other people in doing the same, and their list can be unflattering to say the least. That having been said, It's my opinion that black conservatives are looked at with distrust because conservatives are looked at with distrust. Sure black America was glad that Obama was black, but the truth is the most of the racial loyalty that people chalked his success up to among black Americans had more to do with party loyalty, and black support of white liberal candidates reflect that. And you have to admit, over the past couple of decades, republicans have done an awful lot to maintain the distrust that black people have for them.

If their race OR their conscience and values prevent that, too bad. Rob Parker was an idiot. That said, his employer encouraged controversy for ratings' sake, at least up to some undefined point. I never understood "blackness". To me, it was a silly thing. But I can understand, somewhat. It's like if you brought up your child with a certain set of values, you hate to see your child deviating from those values when they become an adult. But "acting black" to me is a set of mannerisms and practices more than a belief system or set of values.

Criminals fuck with people they know and are around mostly, that's all. I think race is a real big issue in this country, we Americans got some fucked up hang-ups about all sorts of shit that don't affect the rest of the world in anywhere the same way.... But it more than kind of fuckin stupid.
