TheHeretic -> Defining politics, based on race (12/21/2012 8:47:12 PM)

The link is from Fox News, and the author is a black guy who works for Fox News. If that makes anybody want to automatically reject it because of that, then it would be especially important for them to read the piece.

Robert Griffin III, Rob Parker and the sad truth about our racial politics

We can find similar discussion, regarding the recent appointment of a Republican Senator, who happens to black, in South Carolina.

Just how racist is it, to tell an individual that they must represent their race, before their conscience and values?

DomKen -> RE: Defining politics, based on race (12/21/2012 8:54:27 PM)

Precisely how is this any concern of yours?

tazzygirl -> RE: Defining politics, based on race (12/21/2012 8:58:49 PM)

Extremely. The sports guy was wrong on so many levels. He was suspended. Maybe he will have learned a valuable lesson. I doubt it.

Here is another one....

Still on the air.

I had never heard the term "cornball brother" before and still don't know what the fuck it means.

Im not certain I particularly want to either.

Pretty easy to puzzle out an idea from the context though, isn't it Hill?

Well, with 25 locked threads occupying the first couple pages of P&R, we might as well find something else to talk about.

You could always wonder why a substitute school "nurse," was wandering the halls, trying the doors on the janitor's closets.

I like Gamma. XI would have dumped them all into Random Stupidity, or deleted them entirely.

You can never pin down the meaning. It's sort of floating word. Means about sixty things depending on the context. In the context he used it ( off-black). In other words kinda black but not really.

I'm glad someone figured it out.

VioletGray -> RE: Defining politics, based on race (12/21/2012 11:51:09 PM)

First let me say that even though I tend to lean liberal on most issues I have much respect for black conservatives. As a black person who is into goth, renaissance faires, and D&D I often get called "not black enough" by some, worse when it's my own family. I don't think these people realize the implications. When a black person tries to use behavior to decide what makes a person "one of us," they justify other people in doing the same, and their list can be unflattering to say the least.

That having been said, It's my opinion that black conservatives are looked at with distrust because conservatives are looked at with distrust. Sure black America was glad that Obama was black, but the truth is the most of the racial loyalty that people chalked his success up to among black Americans had more to do with party loyalty, and black support of white liberal candidates reflect that. And you have to admit, over the past couple of decades, republicans have done an awful lot to maintain the distrust that black people have for them.

But as Parker suggested, some black Americans still think they have to act, speak and behave in a certain way that conforms to the identity that a white, liberal media has created.

It is not just "white media", black communities themselves create stereotypes blacks need to follow in order to be respected. "White media" perhaps just amplifies it. I do not think there is any racism involved, there is no conscious effort to cause harm. Obamabots genuinely believe whites who criticize Obama policies are racist (but it is different topic).

It's not about RACE. It's about CLASS.

And the the Ruling Class... We're all N*ggers. ALL OF US.

What does it matter to you why TheHeretic has brought this up? Is he not allowed for some reason? The Republican Party has been accused of being racist because it hasn't jettisoned racist members in its ranks. Not sure about it, but I'm not sure the accuser was a Republican, nor black. Did you jump his case because it wasn't really a concern of his?

Am I allowed to say that I support equality among the races and genders, even though I am a white male? Am I not allowed to call out racism against a black person when I see it because I'm not a black man? Isn't it a good thing for a white male (making an assumption here) to call out racism when it rears its ugly head, regardless of the race of the source or target?

They should represent the people who elected them. If their race OR their conscience and values prevent that, too bad.

Rob Parker was an idiot. That said, his employer encouraged controversy for ratings' sake, at least up to some undefined point.

I never understood "blackness". To me, it was a silly thing. But I can understand, somewhat. It's like if you brought up your child with a certain set of values, you hate to see your child deviating from those values when they become an adult. But "acting black" to me is a set of mannerisms and practices more than a belief system or set of values.

Yeah it is some fucked up shit.....Nobody told John Kennedy he had to represent his race.  Or that he was a fine example of his race.

Look at the BBC thing, poor bastards with everyday tiny to average cocks, now they gotta be black which is hard enough dealing with the shit that brings every day, but now they gotta deal with that shit too.

Now they say we got a black president, and as I undertand it the motherfuckers white.

Is he the synecdoche for all black presidents, can we expect the same from Jesse Jackson (I can't wait till he become president and make all you white people slave), or Colin Powell, or any number of black folk?

I don't think that any one of them represent their 'race' any more than any white folks do.

Just cuz they got brown eyes, curly hair and more melanin than whites, it don't make them think in some bizzaro non-human different bastard fashion.

Oh, you know, we hear about black-on-black crime and we got stats, but anyfuckingbody who wrote up a big research on white-on-white crime would be laughed of the face of the fuckin earth.

Criminals fuck with people they know and are around mostly, that's all.

I think race is a real big issue in this country, we Americans got some fucked up hang-ups about all sorts of shit that don't affect the rest of the world in anywhere the same way....

But it more than kind of fuckin stupid.

Which gives me a chance to post Chris Rock's commentary on that.
