She was released today, according to reports the clot was life threatening, but there is no word on what kind of treatment that she will have to continue

Most likely a mild blood-thinner for a short time, if anything. As long as she's essentially healthy, and not at risk for more clots (this one seems to have been caused by the fall, so she may or may not have "sticky blood"). My Aunt was on a strong blood thinner for the past few years as a result of clots after a knee replacement. She had to stop them prior to the latest surgery and was set to resume them the day after she passed. I don't know how long she had to be off them prior to the surgery, and they had installed a mesh screen to block them. There was massive clotting on both sides of the screen, so it looks as if it worked, at least to some degree. Makes me wonder if the clots blocked the return blood flow to the point where it caused her to pass out and have a heart attack. Return flow is extremely important for the heart.
