Status: offline 		Have you ever met someone that made you wonder how they survived to become adults.

I refer to these people as terminally stupid.

These are the people the following warnings are meant for:

In a chainsaw manual- Do not attempt to stop blade with hands or genitals.

Blow dryer: Do not use in shower

Then there are those people that just do stupid things.

People who go hiking and jogging on trails that are in the habitat of predators like mountain lions and bears. I mean there are warnings about the possibility of attacks but people still go on those trails.

Surfers who use short boards. Large predatory sharks hunt seals for the fat content of their blubber, from below a surfer on a short board looks like a fat seal.
Sharks are not very bright, and have good eyesight. Now surfers on long boards look like another large shark, tell me, what would you use to surf?

People that go fishing on rafts made of poles in areas that are known to be the habitat of salt water crocodiles, granted most of these people are following tradition, but it would make more sense to prevent being eaten to pool resources with other villagers to get a large metal boat.

People that HUNT large salt water crocodiles.

People that poke sticks at western diamond back rattlesnakes.

The elimination of "stupid" would put us out of business entirely.

Oh, I'd say this is probably about 75% of the people I've ever met or seen in my life. And it only seems to be getting worse as the years go by! I'm convinced that the advent of the internet has turned people into the terminally stupid.

Status: offline 		My ex husband. Strangely enough, he has an IQ of over 140 - but he sure did some stupid things. Such as:

Setting a board on his thigh and proceeding to drill through the board, into his thigh.

Deciding that the reason my car wasn't running was bad gas. He used a hose to siphon out the bad gas, letting it pour into the drainage ditch that circled my house. Then proceeding to (while the hose was still in the gas tank) to toss his lit cigarette into the ditch. He barely pulled the house out before blowing up my car and I had a lovely ring of fire around the house.

Changing the tire on my van, but forgetting to tighten the lug nuts. The tire fell off while I was driving down the street with a van full of kids.

Working on the ceiling fan electrical wiring, without shutting the electricity to the fan off. The electrical jolt knocked him off the ladder and clear across the room.

Painting the garage cement floor, and realizing when he was done that he was stuck in the far corner of the garage with a floor full of wet paint all around him and no exit plan.

Gotta love a genius.

Status: offline 		When I worked as an engineer, we regularly used 'D' cells in portable test equipment. If the equipment wasn't working properly it was common practice to take out the 'D' cell, stick your tongue briefly across the two terminals. If you got a tingle, there was power left. No tingle - no power.

One day we got a new engineer. Fully qualified - university degree, ex-military. He knew everything. Even stuff he didn't know, he knew

So one day we were doing surge testing on something we'd built. This involves around 50 car batteries linked in series - we'd pull a switch and they'd all dump their charge at once into the item being tested. This was a pretty safe way to see if something could survive a lightning strike or something similar.

Soooo...Mr KnowItAll sets up the equipment. Pulls the switch...and nothing. Batteries not charged. He decides to see if there was any charge at all in one of the batteries by touching one terminal with his tongue, and using a heavy duty screwdriver to make a path between the other terminal and his tongue.

Fortunately I wasn't in work that day, but the smell of burning flesh persisted for days

Status: offline 		When I was working in the ER, I saw some pretty horrifying cases of WTF...

One lady came in with her vagina packed with lard, because she had been told it was an effective birth control. The stench of infection and filth had more than a few hard-core; seen it all medical professionals retching and holding back the bile.

Status: offline 		It's standard practice with equipment that may well be affected by huge electrical spikes (usually in the system) that are not accessible to be easily repaired. Not a direct lightning strike, but a strike on the kit that supplies the power to the device, or some other catastrophic failure of the power supply.

The biggest ones we ever caught were 8ish.
Caimans were the worst. Fuckers are MEAN.
As for poisonous snakes, I freaked out my bag man one night while working on a population study in Big Cypress. I had 4 water moccasins in my left hand and one in the tongs. Fucker started backing away.

Funny, DonG, and all too true! And I always say were it not for young, testosterone-laden, non-thinking young men, willing to try ANYTHING w/o considering the consequences, there'd likely be no need for ER's at all, bless their ever lovin'hearts. Guys, gotta luv ém!

Building housing developments in areas that are the habitat of large predators like cougars.

Personally I think there should be signs posted that read:

This area where you are buying your house is the hunting habitat for large predators.
By purchasing a house here you agree to become part of the food chain.

1) Building homes in a known earthquake zone, actually LIVING in an active seismic zone.

2) Building a home on an active volcano. I dont mean Hawaii, I mean on all those wonderful volcanoes in the Pacific Northwest.


Either one of these actions should qualify as attempted suicide.

Status: offline 		You should see the people in Kansas. Hail, rain, snow, sunshine. It doesn't matter. My first hail storm I encountered while driving on the expressway was the best. Cars lined up under bridges...in the middle of the road. No warning. No shoulder. I'm thankful my years of driving experience has been in inclement weather and dodging potholes.

I drove a truck for a number of years, so I can add one more to that,

Terminally stupid: The fucking moron that passes an 18 wheeler at highway speeds only to cut back in front with less than 20 feet between vehicles and then SLAMS ON HIS FUCKING BREAKS.
