Hello bratty,

i found Your post interesting, not that i have the answer You seek.  Still, what is curious about the blue rose is that, in nature, there is no such thing.  Rose breeders have been trying for years to create the "blue rose."  So the blue rose is famous for being something that people want to see, but which does not exist, except in the imagination.  Do You suppose this might be the idea behind your Master's blue rose tattoo, that you, as His sub, are something that extraordinary?

What, you haven't asked Him?

Maybe he just likes blue roses...but I think you ought to be asking Him what it means to Him...before you got the thing.  Whacha gonna do if he says it reminds him of his last girl?

bratty64 -> RE: what does a blue rose mean in BDSM (6/18/2006 3:49:50 PM)

hmm i did ask him, he said it symbolizes submission.....the bluerose of submission he said..... but seems not to many people know of it

I may be completely wrong here, but somewhere in the books of Gor,there is a description of a plant that grows on the plains,a blue plant much like the earth's rose, something to do with the name 'Dina',a blue rose.Maybe it is worth asking some of those here who are into the Gorean lifestyles.

Never heard of it.

But it sounds like a pretty tattoo, nonetheless.

I've never heard of a blue rose symbolizing anything in particular in BDSM.
And I like to think, that being a symbolic interactionist, I would have heard of it in the past 20 years or so.
If you do come across something that explains the significance, please make a point of posting it here. I would be really interested in learning.

Otherwise, I'd guess it's just something your Master likes. If it means submission to him, and you, and your household, it could work very well on all kinds of symbolic levels (seeing so many possibilities here in service, decorating, cooking, sexuality, and poetry!) It could make for something very beautiful and personal for your household.

This is what I found on google:

Blue roses do not occur in nature, at least not in a natural way. The closest we tend to get are purplish roses or roses which fall within the lilac to almost black categories (living roses). If you were to receive an almost blue rose married, wedded, taped or in some way attached to a rose of another color that 'blend' is designed to convey the specific meaning of 'unity'.
Most blue leather roses are not completely blue. Often they are blue and white, or blue and black leather roses. These roses may be representative of the 'unity' or joining of the attributes of the rose to the leather community, they may represent the unity or joining of S/m to the leather community or may simply be used to identify someone who is connected to the S/m leather community.

Lashra -> RE: what does a blue rose mean in BDSM (6/18/2006 4:11:54 PM)

I have seen a picture of a Wyvern with a chain around its neck that curls around its body and the creature is guarding a blue rose. I was told that the creature was the guardian of the blue rose of submission. In fact Im having that made into a tattoo with the BDSM symbol hanging from the chain around the dragons neck.

I've heard several references that were suppose to explain its signifigance, but no one could could argue that My earlier arguement that it symbloized a well beaten set of asscheeks. The dark blue that shows deep brusing, but, I prefer a bouquets offerings for colours. Mix 'em up and enjoy the beauty of a fine colour palet.

Well, since there doesn't seem to be a clearcut origin of the phrase...

Perhaps it means simply "rare".

Admittedly i haven't read all the books yet but i have no ecolection of such a plant. However there is a flower called a dina which has four petals and is the most basic symbol of a slave and is one of the most common brands used on a slave....

According to the books (and I'm too lazy to dig through them and find the quotes) ...

The dina is a red flower, similar to a wild rose (not the hybrid roses we buy and give to our lovers) and is a common slave brand ...

The talender is yellow and symbolizes beauty, being feminine, pretty, soft, etc etc etc It is worn in a wreath on the head during a Free Companionship ceremony ...

The verminium is blue ... There was a slave girl named Verminia (for the flower) ... I dont remember if it means anything but its a flower so it probably does. :)

Aneirin -> RE: what does a blue rose mean in BDSM (6/18/2006 5:12:40 PM)

Looking more into it,maybe I had got it wrong, but somewhere on another site there was a reference to a blue rose like flower withhin the Gor thing.

If it is of any help to anyone;

http://www.snippetsofgor.com/scrolls/

I have not read the actual books, but these seem pretty complete
