Our current administration would never let this pipe dream come true, and rightfully so. Federal money might help states with welfare programs, but in the end it's the state government that decides on how the programs are run.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention what a nice guy our President and Vice President are this week.

Lmao Rob, here was I thinking you had given that up.

Little or no income.

In other words, the unemployed.

Which is it? Little or no income? Little is not no income. Some employed people make little income. Some unemployed have great income.

But again, you want to go off topic. The unemployed are not the topic.

Your OP says, "then get a job" no fewer than FOUR times.

So what? All that refers to is that of one wishes to eat steak, have fancy expensive rims, buy luxuries... get a job. Don't expect welfare to provide them or support them.

Is that really so hard to comprehend?

(apparently so[;)])

Marini -> RE: Is it any wonder... (1/7/2013 5:48:23 PM)

I am SO glad you posted this and started this thread, Yachtie.

It's NOT because I agree with the commentary written by the young woman.

It's because MANY people DO agree with this type of thinking.

In this time of fiscal cliffs, cutting government programs and services, it is important that the many people that feel this way, get it out in the open.

This young woman is not alone in thinking this way, many share her views.
It's the view that the unemployed, the poor, the downtrodden, and those in need are: "lazy, have poor morals, no ethics, are not really good citizens, don't want to work, don't want to do anything worthwhile in life, and are hoping to live off the government dole forever if possible".
Many of these people feel like receiving government assistance is almost like winning the lottery , right?

Funnily enough I have noticed people go ape shit if you disagree.

When they're off topic. See, this time I'm not going to be dragged off to someones pinball way of debate; making their point an off topic way.

No pinball.... I addressed topics included in your OP. I apologise if you dont like me having a different view....... okay i dont but you get my drift.

I was not referring to you in my pinball statement, but to your plurality statement I bolded above. Thought that was obvious.

I don't mind your different view. Hope you don't mind if I take exception to it though. This is a discussion.

Did you even bother to read the ideas from the 21 year old that you posted? Or did you just throw this up there for everyone to get a big giant laugh?

For example, "if you want to vote, then get a job".

What does the right to vote have to do with eating steak or buying luxuries?

You never read what you posted, did you?

It's more apparent that it is you who could not comprehend what she was saying.

If you're on the government dole you do not get to vote, as such would permit politicians to 'buy' your vote by offering the steak.

edit: It's quite evident that the obvious is beyond your grasp.

Do you drive on federally funded highways?

Do you sail on waters protected by the U.S. government?

We need to revoke your right to vote, Yachtie. By your own rule.....

fucktoyprincess -> RE: Is it any wonder... (1/7/2013 6:10:24 PM)

Yachtie, part of my tax dollars go to help YOU. So please can we take away your right to vote. Not fair is it that part of my tax dollar goes to help someone in another state engage in activities, like sailing, that I don't engage in.

So either send me back a check for that, or please stop voting.

Or again, take my prior suggestion and move to a country that has a system like the one you propose. They exist. But everyone who lives there is trying to get out. Wonder why?

[sm=ofcourse.gif]

That's how you do a face palm, btw....

fucktoyprincess -> RE: Is it any wonder... (1/7/2013 6:13:57 PM)

If you don't want to use federal money to assist you doing things like sailing, something most of people can't afford, then get a job that pays for all of those services that are provided to you, okay. Because I am sick and tired of my tax dollars going to pay for people like you. Take some responsibility and pay your own way, okay? [:D]

For those in doubt, here is what WELFARE (supposedly the topic of this OP) is - Federally funded and governed US welfare began in the 1930's during the Great Depression. The US government responded to the overwhelming number of families and individuals in need of aid by creating a welfare program that would give assistance to those who had little or no income.

Little or no income.

In other words, the unemployed.

Yachtie, again please explain to me why we cannot discuss the lack of jobs on this thread about WELFARE, when WELFARE means providing assistance to those with little or no income? Especially when the changes you suggest are all pinned on people finding jobs.

Your OP says, "then get a job" no fewer than FOUR times.

Someone who has income doesn't actually need welfare. That's not what welfare is.

Again, what is this OP about?

Actually most of the people who use bridgecards in our store are employed. They just don't make enough money to make it on their own. I had a lady go balistic on me because I told her she didn't have enough money on her card to pay for her lunch. She was ticked off because her card wasn't going to get filled again for a couple weeks and asked how I expected her to get by that long. I suggested she start packing her lunches and maybe the money would go farther. She didn't seem to appreciate that. I also reminded her that I had no control on how she spent her money or how much she got. She didn't seem to appreciate that either. I guess you can't please everyone.

Earth to Yachtie........

[sm=abducted.gif]

Yachtie? Hello! It is hard to discuss this topic without mentioning WHY people need government assistance to begin with.

Also, unemployment/extending unemployment benefits/and how to help the unemployed has everything to do with this topic.

Yachtie, behave now!

I am not sure how it works in other states but in MI if you are unemployed, you collect unemployment. If you are underemployed or can't work for what ever reason, you collect welfare and get food stamps. If you can't work, you can't collect unemployment. You have to be able and willing to work to do that. I have never heard of anyone getting both.

breagha -> RE: Is it any wonder... (1/7/2013 6:31:54 PM)

i normally don't get involved in the political type discussions... this one hits a little close to home though.

i'm a single mom. when my child was 2 i went back to school. and i worked full time. i also happened to qualify for SNAP ( then just called food stamps ) and HEAP. i understand that the system gets abused (and that is what the topic is about in my opinion). as someone who didn't abuse said system... does that mean i should have had my right to vote taken away because i used government benefits when it was available and needed? i will say that i could have possibly managed without the benefits. it would have made life a lot harder ( and i would have been without heat in the cold NNY winter ) so as a mother i made the choice to take what was made available. did i buy steak? yes i did. did i have 22 inch rims or buy ciggies or alcohol? no i didn't. Social welfare comes in many forms. and like thishereboi said above... many of the people who use these forms are employed and just need an extra boost.

You were not worth such effort.

You are receiving comments on this thread that match the effort you put into the OP. One reaps what one sows.

The ideas in the OP are stupid and ineffectual.

And now you are choosing to personally attack people because you have run out of ways to defend your position.

And if you believe the crap you quoted in the OP, then practice what you preach and please don't vote anymore. Why exactly are you entitled to use tax money collected from others for your benefit, but others are not. What makes you so very special?

And if you can't answer that then maybe you should cease and desist from the ad hominem. Engage in the ideas you've put forth, or don't. No need to attack me because I am consistently attacking your ideas, and you've run out of ways to defend your ideas (oh, I mean the ideas of a 21 year old from Waco, TX).

The ideas you've put forward are some of the stupidest ideas I have ever seen...ever. Even you are unable to defend them. You could stop attacking me personally, and actually try to defend your position. No one is stopping you.

I've come up with several specific objections to your ideas. I can't help it if you can't defend these ridiculous positions.

Marini -> RE: Is it any wonder... (1/7/2013 6:33:25 PM)

thb, many people need government assistance AFTER they have exhausted their unemployment, it's a natural order of progression for many people.

Yes it is and at that point they are put on welfare.
