Will they have Starbucks?

You wouldn't have to worry about the reality show part, Athena!
It would all be scripted for you! lol

Hell no. I like my privacy and to chose my own company. To be part of a colony of four people initially, potentially for several years, would be grim.

And what if it doesn't work out? What if the funding stops?

Also, the application process involves being on a reality tv show. Hard limit.

I would in a heartbeat.

I'd pay double for a two way trip.

(I'd pay triple to send my ex).

I have no loathing for Earth/Humanity, and I have things here for me. But this is something I would absolutely do if it was feasible. If they had a real plan, and the reality show wasn't the main attraction.

So long as there is financial compensation for those I leave behind here as well as possible compensation should I ever manage to return (I'd need something to live off of other than charity).

The chance to step foot on another planet, to make a mark on history the likes of which few can compare with... to help forward our knowledge and our horizons as a species... I think all of that is worth risking my life for. Even if it was a failure... even if it burnt out before we reached Mars itself... it would still be a step towards something that would be marked in history.

I would not. I have still got many things to do before my final death.

Well, I might build a spaceship myself and do a return trip. I guess that Mars rocks will pay more than Moon rocks? The only problem would be to distinguish between Mars and one of them stars; I would not want to overshoot my destination by a number of lightyears...

Well gee, let's see, would I rather be living on Florida's palm-lined Suncoast, or on fucking Mars with four strangers.

Gosh, that's a tough one.

A few reasons to volunteer my niece's boy friend.

1) The long trip to Mars would be subject to solar radiation from solar storms and solar flares.
2) with the lack of a magnetic field around Mars, the planet is subject to increased doses of cosmic radiation.
3) According to the OP, it is a one way trip.

If I were single (abscit omen), this would be my ideal retirement plan. Plenty of peaceful time to write (I've had decades of practice at not being distracted by the people around me,) and the chance to live the stories I read at school. What could be bad? Not worried by the TV thing either, I'm an exhibitionist at heart, and I wouldn't have to meet any of the viewers.
