Kaliko, seems you're implying that those who do and/or have reported others are cunts.

It's interesting, in the number of threads in which reporting posts has been discussed, I've seen those who have reported referred to as not being adults, wittle whiners, in need of a nanny, and now...cunts. Nice.

And what I've said is people should do what feels right to them. What's the big deal? I'm not trying to convince anyone to report or not report. People, including yourself, have said they don't understand why people report others. I've explained why I do. What do I get back? "Doing that would have been acting like a cunt."

So I'm pretty convinced people don't actually want to understand why, they just want to complain that people report. Alrighty then!

So I'm not going to explain why anymore. I've done so in several threads and either I suck at explaining, or people don't really want the explanation. Or something else, who knows.

Exit, Stage Left...

On the profile side, I've made multiple reports...pictures of gaping assholes, gaping pussies, and full frontal dicks....people bashing other users by name in their profiles and journals....profile references to b*stiality and underage sorts of things.

But it's ok that you have a picture of a full frontal dick in your own gallery? And just for giggles I pulled up the profile of the very first person in your "Friends" list - guess what, LanceHughes has multiple full frontal dick shots.

Not that I disagree with reporting the obviously obscene, but what is that old saying.. People in glass houses..

NSNG

NotSoNormalGuy,

Full frontal dick? Are you talking about the picture of the Dick Rambone DILDO for mrbill98277's primary photo? That's NOT a dick, it's a fuckin' DILDO for crying out loud. As for LanceHughes' dick pics, he doesn't use them as his primary photo. If you check the directions under Edit Profile, it clearly says
Please do not post explicit primary photos.
I draw your attention the the word primary. If a profile pops up on my home page or someone writes to me, either one, and his/her primary picture violates the TOS, then yeah, I'm going to report him/her. Go back again and check my friends' primary pictures.

I think you're just a troublemaker, NSNG.

*shrug* If the shoe fits...

Let's get real here. If you report something someone says to you, that's a fair call. If it's in response to something similarly cunt-like which you've said TO them or ABOUT them, then you're a whiny cry-baby and are behaving like a cunt to boot.

If you see something which is the product of a heated discussion between other people, is totally unrelated to you and decide to report it because you feel like it, then you're being a cunt. You're trying to control the forum by controlling what people can and can't say. The mods - as people KEEP pointing out - are human. And what that means is that a vocal minority of reporting cunts can control the forum by complaining en masse, EVEN if nobody's violated any rules. Because - as we've seen - mods will make up rules on the fly if need be.

Your efforts to misrepresent your reporting behaviour as a community service are disingenuous.

Don't like what you see? Then hide the poster. Easily fixed. Don't like that they're dominating the conversation regardless? Well then fucking TOUGH. If people are responding to them, then they're stimulating the conversation and that's a good thing. Harden the fuck up and stop trying to be a control-freak on the forums because other people are giving attention to someone YOU DON'T LIKE.

You claim you don't like reading through a bunch of abuse - I don't like reading through a bunch of regulars derailing a thread to engage in mutual ego-stroking FOR FUCKING PAGES. Yet, I don't report them, I'll just deal with it myself. This is called "being an adult". Some of you may want to consider the merits of such an approach.

I think there's something in this line for all of us, even you.

But, I'm afraid I disagree with your take on this.

If an out and out troll rocks up into a thread and starts behaving like an asshat, then the responsible, adult, thing to do is to report them.

This is called "being an adult".

OK. Let's discuss it then.

Now, I don't particularly like being called a c*nt. If that's the best you've got, I know you can't debate Me on logical points. Once you have stooped to that level, in My eyes, you've basically given up.

Does it really contribute to conversation once you've got nothing else?

Quoted for truth. Sometimes there are people who just want to instigate asshole-ishness, even if they are wrong. And those people seems to derail the convo. So they should be reported.
Nothing cunty or not being adult about it.

You go through a construction zone and there in front of you is a car doing 50 when the speed limit through there is 65. It's one lane and you can't pass him. He knows you have 10 miles of construction. He knows people are backed up behind him, cussing him, his mother and grandmother. So why does he purposely go so slow? Because he's a fucking dick. He grins to know you're in a hurry and he's fucking up your day. He gets a hard-on knowing that in his pathetic life in which he has little to no power and in which he's a nobody, for this little while he has this little bit of power.

Most of the people on here are probably just trying to make the site better. But there's a few who probably love the power the report button gives them and they like fucking up people's day anonymously. I have no idea what each of you's motives are. Or which category you fit into. I'll let you decide that for yourself.

cloudboy -> RE: Lets be honest have you ever reported anyone (1/14/2013 6:18:09 AM)

I have never reported anyone. I haven't had a reason to. Someone calling me stupid, deranged, wrong, or maladjusted -- the usual message board ad hominem attacks don't hurt me, and I feel more than able to defend myself or count on others to see who is being crazy. (When there is a fight / disagreement.)

I would only report another user if they tried to actually harm me by posting some kind of compromising/damaging information they had about me from real life -- with the purpose of hurting me or my family. This has never happened.

If one does not want to be moderated, one need only carefully consider word choice before posting. If you calls someone an asshole or an idiot using respectful terms, you don't get moderated. Unfortunately, the copy can get dull and lifeless if one sanitizes his views too much.

------

Using the ticket function, it turns I reported someone in 2006 for posting a phone number.

AllisonWilder -> RE: Lets be honest have you ever reported anyone (1/14/2013 6:31:56 AM)

OK so that's you're opinion - Awesome!

Again, you're opinion. The "vocal minority" is probably a minority because the response to the "I report" comment is so predictable. Look at your response to me, after all? What is different in it than anything anyone before you had to say on your side of the argument? This post here says nothing different than in the 56 pages of the "Decline" thread.

If I've repeated in my posts about posting it's because every few posts someone is saying "I don't understand why people report others" as though the explanation hadn't already been given a hundred times.

quote:

Your efforts to misrepresent your reporting behaviour as a community service are disingenuous.

Exactly what about my previous post is representing my behavior as "community service?"

I come to CM to enjoy myself. It's my little neighborhood playground. I like this playground, and I'm OK with abiding by the rules of the playground. Personal attacks are not allowed in the rules of the playground. I don't want to have to deny myself playing on the jungle gym - or only playing on certain parts of the jungle gym, because other people aren't following the rules. The personal attacks affect my enjoyment of this site. I don't want to have to avoid threads or have to sift through post after post to get to the fun stuff. I find *that* to be an imposition on *me.*

I have never said I've reported for anyone's behalf but my own. It's purely selfish reasons that bring me to report.

So please do not falsely accuse me of intentions I never once said I had.

And for what it's worth, the most recent ticket on my ticket list is Feb, 2012 - a year ago - because some new dude was bringing up necro thread after necro thread. But hey, maybe we should have let him, huh? He was having fun, after all. And it's not up to anyone here to provide a "community service" by reporting. [;)]
quote:

Thank you for the advice but I'm good doing what I'm doing. Reporting a post here & there is just fine for me. I dont need to abide by YOUR rules here, so you can pass on telling me how to enjoy the forums.

quote:

Don't like that they're dominating the conversation regardless? Well then fucking TOUGH.

Don't like that people report posts for violating TOS? Well then fucking TOUGH. (see, either side can use that argument - which is why it's a ridiculous argument and does nothing to contribute to any solutions).

I'd hardly say one reported post in a year is being a control freak (previous posts were in 2011, about the sock brigade, but then I've already said in several posts that I rarely report, but it still seems to stir up hostile responses).

quote:

Not reporting is your option, just as reporting is an option for others. I don't care what you choose to deal with yourself; I didn't ask about that. I don't need someone to try to convince me to change a behavior. I only answered several repeated questions about WHY people post.

In MY world, being an adult is having the ability to have an exchange without name calling and bullying. To quote you, "Some of you may want to consider the merits of such an approach."

NuevaVida -> RE: Lets be honest have you ever reported anyone (1/14/2013 8:48:09 AM)

lol I see those "clever" types that are careful in their wording to incite others (with their indirect insults) but avoid being moderated the same way you see the deliberately slow driver.. Those are the ones, imo, that love the power to be able to do that without consequences to themselves.. Hitting the report button does no good if the TOS have technically not been violated.. since the effect of reporting is impotent, the only defence is to do the same and insult them indirectly, creating a hostile online enviroment.. Being an adult also means not resorting to insulting someone else, even indirectly.. there is really no need for that (no matter how "heated").. jmo

In the past i have deliberately keep on disagreeing with someone who does the indirect insult thing, just to bug the ass off that person.. lol She wasnt smart enough to figure that out..

The past 6 weeks or so, I'd agree but there have been a few periods in the last year where TOS was "whatever the Mod on duty felt like it should be".

I guess you must keep track of mod "activity" much more than i do.. lol

I just know I tried once a long time ago to get someone to stop so it could be a civil discussion again, that didnt do anything so I dont bother anymore, I either only post when I feel i am safe to do so (without someone attacking me cuz of my viewpoint) or I just leave.. I most definately leave when i run across one of those threads where they have turned abusive/insulting..

Yes, in moderation threads around the Fab Four time people said they were leaving due to the personal attacks and lack of moderation, so it's ironic to hear that people are leaving due to excessive moderation.
