I quoted this to a younger man on the other side:

Old age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill.

An unloaded gun is more dangerous than a loaded gun.

I think this comes from the number of accidental shootings involving guns that were supposed to be unloaded.

Love it, SS! Give me an older man anyday. They've learned a few tricks along the way!!

Does being trained as a sniper, medic and use of explosives count as tricks?

I used to say this a LOT when I was a wrestling coach. Right before my student hit the floor HARD.

I used to hear it a lot playing varsity football. I never hit the ground hard, but I did put a lot of opposing centers on the ground hard in my righteous attempt to put the opposing quarter back in ICU.

I also made sure that the opposing team could see me eating a chunk of raw new york strip before the game. Strangely enough, I always forgot to wash the blood off my face.

My head couch was an army vet, officer and psych warfare specialist.

Wear clean underwear in case you are in an accident.

When I got older and took my first series of first aid courses, I found out that if you are in a severe accident resulting in severe trauma, the body seems to lose control of bodily functions. Not always but it happens.

Also, she seemed to have never figured out that I stopped wearing underwear when I was 15. Go figure.
