I've been on a journey to get healthy since May and it has included a lot of weight loss.
I have been working out 7 days a week.
Granted, I admit the work out has gotten easy.

So this past week I decided I want / need to step it up.
I am kind of nervous because I am comfortable doing what I am doing.
Perhaps to comfortable.
But I REFUSE to be ruled by fear.

So tomorrow I am starting the Insanity work outs.
They seem intense!
To say the least.

I'd love to hear from anyone that has done the program / work outs.
Was there something that helped you get through them?

Insanity is a good name for that program. it is intense. and killer for the first few weeks. well worth the work and effort though. it really works.

i will admit it was something i almost gave up on. the only thing that kept me going was a daily reminder that i'm doing this to better my health and lifestyle.

THAT is what my partner told me.
He said that the program was insane.
Then he really scared me said his is worse (he's a personal trainer).
I told him I would stick to the Insanity workouts then.
He laughed.

There have been tons of times since May that I wanted to quiet.
But this is all for a healthier me.
I keep telling myself if I give up on it, on myself.
How can I truly commit to my partner or anything else?

I bought the Insanity workout recently and have to wait to get a cardio ok this coming week to begin.

Any hints or suggestions for a newbie to the program?  I'm bound and determined to get healthier.  Making some nutrition changes that can't huirt : Red meat/pork 2x a month.  no white bread, sugar, flour, etc.... But I'd love to hear suggestions from anyone who has been thru this or a similar program in their quest for fitness/health.

I applaud you for wanting to get healthier. I DRASTICALLY changed my diet a little over a year ago and feel so much better for it!

But working out 7 days a week is not recommended. You need at least one, even two days a week for your body to recover the exercise. :)

OMG I finished my 1st insanity work out a bit ago.
THAT was rough!

There were parts where I felt light headed.
I caught my breath, then went back at it.

servos cor

I cut out the majority of processed foods.
I try to buy organic, now.
I have cut out meat almost completely.
I will still have salmon, kippers, catfish, talapia, venison, bison, and on a very rarely organic chicken. (perhaps 1-2 xs a wk)
I eat a lot of beans.
I eat a lot of raw fruits and veggies. Especially kale, collard greens, and things of that nature.

Wheat, whole grain, ancient grains, chai seeds, and flax seeds.

I eat at very specific times 8 am (recovery smoothie), 11, 2, 5.

I TRY to ask myself what nutritional value something has before I eat it.

Although I have worked out for 5-6 days per week I know that the majority of the almost weight I have lost since May is due to changing my eating habits.

It is a hard journey but it's a wonderful one.
It's also a journey I could not be going on in the manner I am if it had not been for my primary partner.

Lil Squaw..... Thanks for the input. I've been doing some research and have found a good bit of those suggestions repeatedly so they must work! :) My biggest hurdle is my eating habits: I dont like vegetables, seafood (other than shrimp) and ... up until recently have been unwilling to try new food items. So this will be a big change, in many ways, for me.

How do you come across venison and buffalo? It's a rare treat for me to get venison to cook. My sisters bf hunts up north and is willing to share so Im grateful for that. Buffalo..... they actually had in one of the major grocery stores awhile back. They no longer carry it but it was fantastic and a much leaner type of meat. Guess I can always opt for gator....... it does taste like chicken, which I love and Im sure its pretty healthy for you.

I know what you mean about the support of your primary partner. It makes a world of difference. Best of luck in your ongoing endeaver here!

My biggest hurdles have been been my eating habits as well.
People always assume that because someone is over weight, hell obese it's because they eat to much.
My issue was I wasn't eating enough.
My body was always in starvation mode.

My other has been when I began to get healthy.
I realized how many people in my life LIKED me unhealthy.
I realized how many people wanted me to stay unhealthy.
Because it suited THEM.

As far as where I get certain foods.
Wegmans, supermarket carries both venison and bison.
They also carry a lot of organic / natural meats.
Whole Foods is amazing as well.
If you have on local.
There are also companies you can buy it from online.

When it comes to fish / sea food.
Get wild vs. farmed.
There is a difference.
If you do tuna water not oil
Canned sardines and kippers are wonderful as well.

Also stay away from peanuts, although almonds, cashews and raw sunflower seeds are good.
This include peanut butter, but almond butter is fantastic!

I was nervous about my UM not wanting to try new foods.
Truth, is he is so proud of how much he has lost.
He is also excited about getting healthy.

I couldn't do this on my own.
I not only didn't have the knowledge.
But the truth is this is a hard journey if you have support.
Even harder if you are walking it alone.

I love that we work out at the same times.
Even if different work outs and at our own homes.
I love that we are both eating healthy, even if differently.
I don't feel like I am in this alone.
Or worse that he doesn't understand my journey.

I'd love to hear if this gets easier for you by day 7, 14, 21, and so on. I've been doing Zumba and 30-Day Shred simultaneously, but feel like I need a real challenge and this might be it.

I will def. let you know.
I'm told it should get easier after the 1st week. Lol

I went to zumba classes in the past.
Wasn't my cup of tea.

I actually have thought about going to a pole exercise class.

Zumba wouldn't be my thing in a group setting, but a friend got two sets of the workout for her birthday and gave me one. I like it at home, where nobody can see me.

I haven't done pole exercise classes, but it's an excellent workout from what I hear.

Thanks!
I admit I felt like vomiting towards the end.
I got a lil light headed at the end as well.
I did finish it though and I will be doing day 2 tomorrow.

The Julian Michaels workouts are amazing... She is the trainer from the biggest Loser... I can send you the link. She is truly Americas toughest trainer. I have her 30 day Shred and yoga work out tapes. Have you tried the powerplate? I lost about 10 kgs from the atkins diet and powerplate combined.
Have a great day!

I did day 2, oh vay.
My body feels like jello!
Not as light headed as yesterday but still kicked my ass. Lol

I did it though.

Jinx, no i don't and I am not honestly not a fan of the atkins diet or most fad diets.
I personally like Jakie Warner.
That is what I have been doing.
She can be intense but I wanted to up the anty a bit.

I had a look at the programme and it looks impressive. I have always believed interval training to be the most beneficial way of getting fit and this is really taking that interval training to extremes.
There are parts of the training I would be happy to do but because I'm a competing athlete, most of the exercises would hinder my performance in my particular sport... ( I can't have muscle where I don't need it because of muscle weight)
I think what is good about this programme is, you can go at your own level but I think a lot of people are going to totally over do it.
We all know that if you don't work hard, you won't make progress and hear lies the problem. Sometimes working that hard is very bad for the body. If you don't listen to your body, believe me, you will get hurt and if you get hurt it could be months before you can get back on the programme.
Most athletes retire because of injury acquired during training. Athletes push themselves to the limit and often the body just breaks and refuses to continue. This programme is the sort of programme you would see some very fit professional athletes doing on a daily basis. For the normal man and woman in the street this exercise programme is being sold as a lifestyle, not to athletes but to people who want to lose weight and put on some muscle and I find that a little concerning, especially for those who have a lot of stamina and determination.
I would be really interested to know about the information on warm ups and do they give information on things like electrolytes and amino acids?
I tried to search for more info about dietary requirements but didn't come up with much. Interestingly I have a wheat free diet and that greatly benefits my weight and staying power.
