As if there isn't enough complaining about stuff that really doesn't matter going on.

I like it, I like seeing who likes each other and who is flirting with each other. I think it makes the forums more fun.

I once went into a chat room here and asked if anyone participated in the forums, the replies I got stated that everyone on the forums was an a$$hole who just liked to argue.  Makes me laugh to think about it. Two separate but elitist groups! :P

NOW this I have to laugh about .. those chat room people are the ones full of drama . I actually stopped going to them because of all the drama . there are a few I had respect for but most ..... drama filled gimme attention bullshit .. and 90% do exactly what we do here . discuss points of view share experiences ... talk about lifestyle situations . of course there if you don't agree with them they ostracize<sp?> you and make slight comments of you .....
HMMM .. wait they do that here too without the drama

Simply put like julia said . if the banter bothers you skip over the page of banter and find where the thread topic picks back up .... not a hard things to do with scroll bars and next page links

Thanks everyone I am enjoying reading your points of view.
I would like to clarify I do not mind when the thread stikes someone and they reply as if they were in a chat room and it goes on for a few posts. What does bother me is when one hi-jacks the post and this person and three or four others go into "chat speak" for a page or to and it's totally off subjest to the thread. Then is when I find it rude and somewhat juvenile.

I learned from this thread just how adament "chat room" connoisseurs are to defend the medium and it's "normal" place
in a forum medium. I do agree that blips of chat which doesn't disturd the flow of are thread can be funny and entertaining but the above described behavior; hijacking and blabbing for a page or two, really doesn't belong in a forum medium and is disruptive and rude.

SirKenin -> RE: I have noticed something and wonder... (6/20/2006 9:55:47 PM)

The chatroom banter is irritating and it demonstrates the intellect of those participating in it, but it is easy enough to skip over it.  To be honest, when it denigrates to that point I just ignore the entire thread.  They ruined it acting like children and there really is not any point in going back.

As many here already know, I ran a chatroom and forum for almost three years.  All it basically is is a bunch of mindless banter, much like the crap that goes on here.  They have no lives, so they go into a chatroom and talk about absolutely nothing.  Then you mention the word sex and everybody perks up and fervently types away.  The screen scrolls by faster than you can read it.

It is idiotic blather.  I certainly do not miss it at all and I would not miss it if the same mindless drivel that has invaded the forum dies a quick but painful death.

You could just ignore the offenders, block them if you will. Most of the rest of us probably won't though.

It reminds me of people bitching about spelling or people bringing up topics they are tired of or griping about the nasty emails they receive. It is kinda juvenile to complain about such little things.. God forbid something truly terrible happens in the world. BTW, I posted along with the others on that thread with the poem all because of this thread.. it seems I have an obstinate streak that doesn't like it when people tell me how I should communicate. Nothing personal, just the way I feel about it

Well said SirKenin.
It's great to have the perspective from someone who knows what they are talking about, meaning the fact that you participated and even ran a chat room and a forum and completely understand the difference.

It's also really nice to see you are feeling better and are participating here at CM again[sm=applause.gif].

I know what actions I can take here if I want to not read gibberish so I don't need any directions from you.

I did not write the OP to bitch, I simply noticed  chat room behavior becoming more prevalent here and wondered how others felt about it.
If you think it takes paramount energy and time out of my day your wrong and I think your just throwing out asinine comments in order to try and undermine my intentions[:'(] I certainly don't compare it to much more important things going on in the world[8|].

And excuse me,  you say nothing personal? I see it nothing but when you accuse me of trying to control the ways you communicate.
I never recall telling you how you should communicate, how ridiculous[8|].

I see what you have just said as a overly defensive personal kick back and yes very childish for a 38 year old in MPO.

juliaoceania -> RE: I have noticed something and wonder... (6/21/2006 9:27:21 AM)

Im not going to get into a pissing contest, your post came off as insulting to people that have a different communication style from yourself. I have been called juvenile and childish for having a different opinion. I have not called you one name, but you seem not to be able to debate your own opinions and posts without doing the same. It is one thing to say a behavior is juvenile, it is another to call someone childish. I do not know how many chats you have been to, not all are innane, depending on topic they can be downright informative, although that has never been my experience in BDSM chat.

Name calling aside, there have been many of your posts I have enjoyed reading and will continnue to do so... I do not have a petty streak and I am not going to call names back to make a point, Peace!

LaTigresse -> RE: I have noticed something and wonder... (6/21/2006 11:20:48 AM)

this whole thread seems rather petty.......buuuuuuuuuuuuuut thats just my $2 worth

Juvenile and childish behaviour mean exactly the same thing.  I do not recall anyone actually calling someone childish, but rather pointing at a specific behaviour.  I could be wrong though.

As for chatrooms, you will not win that point.  As a former avid chatroom and forum junky that has been in many, many chatrooms and forums, themed (including BDSM) and general chats, I can tell you with conviction that I have not seen a chat yet that is not a bunch of people with no lives posting a bunch of mindless blather.   The reason is simple.  They haunt them, day in and day out, while sitting at home smoking their Benson and Hedges Menthol 100s and watching the dishes pile up, talking in the same rooms about the same crap they talked about the day before.  It gets insanely boring so they start posting about nothing until someone mentions sex.  All I had to do was mention the word sex or boobies and the chat started to scroll furiously.  You can not argue with Me on this.  I have done it for years because I was once one of those people.

Forums, on the other hand, can be very informative.  I have learned a lot from reading forums.

Thank you very much for the kind words.  It has been tough, but I am definitely on the mend and glad to be back.
