No one said they werent mandatory. We are saying the majority were not bought back. 25%, maybe. And buy back does not equal confiscation.

Because the Australian Constitution prevents the taking of property without just compensation the federal government introduced the Medicare Levy Amendment Act 1996

Now, can you move on from this silly discussion about Australia?

If you have no choice it is confiscation and for the 3rd or 4th time I never said anythig about the % taken. Giving them money was just window dressing. You don't have to see it that way and clearly you don't.

This says the buyback was manditory no guessing or misunderstanding plain English.

Giving money is mandatory. The US has over 200 statutes for confiscation. You need to learn the difference

You put emphasis on giving money I put emphasis on manditory. Just because the US has worse provisions doesn't make taking property by threat of force is the same as buying it. You might call what they did compensated confiscation the form is different but morally it is the same.. We are never going to agree on this matter so there is little point in continuing.

tazzygirl -> RE: Disarmament: NY leads the way. (2/1/2013 3:24:48 PM)

I didnt say they were the same... and thats my point. YOU keep equating mandatory buy backs with confiscation and that isnt true. Under US law, if they want to take, they will take, they dont have to buy back.

As far as your objections, they are groundless as THIS is the first time you have argued against confiscation rules in the US though there are 200 statutes on the books allowing for this.

http://www.justice.gov/criminal/foia/docs/afstats06.pdf

If its deemed illegal, there is a long history and precedence of confiscation in the US. Complaining about it only when it might affect you doesnt cut it.

It is possible the Chicago will be the second city, the death rate is about one killed by a gun per day

No again you are making proclimations about what I think without knowlege, American confiscation rules have never come up before but I don't even approve of emminent domain let alone outright confiscation rules. A city near here took land sure they gave the people somthing but not choice to build a Walmart Funny, I opposed that and it had no affect on me.

tazzygirl -> RE: Disarmament: NY leads the way. (2/1/2013 5:19:48 PM)

And yet this isnt the first discussion confiscation has come up that you were a part of that discussion.

http://www.collarchat.com/fb.asp?m=3674940

Oddly enough, I pulled up imminent domain on the search feature. 30 results. Many around the same time you were posting... all in off topic... and not a single one did I find that you even made a post into.

All we have to go on for your "protest" about any confiscation is your one single, long post....

When the AMA has come out in favor of firearms confiscation it is easy to assume that these questions are not asked purely for the good of the kids.

Hmmmm

I was not envolved in those discussions.
I consider confiscation of private property to be morally the same as armed robbery.
I consider buy backs and emminant domain to be on the same moral level as when the Mafia tells you you are going to sell them controling interest in your business or else both are reprehensable.
I have always oppossed confiscation most of our conversations on the matter consist of you telling me that things don't amout to confiscation.
If you are creditig that quote about the AMA to me you have made a serious error.

Considering that your stance is quite obviously very pro gun control, I probably wouldn't EVER reference Chicago if I were you... Just a thought.

No, what I have said... and... please... do read carefully....

Australia was NOT confiscation.

I understand your prespective. Do you honestly feel that a forced buyback is good don't sidestep with it is better than going to prison like you did last time just this. Is a forced buyback in your view good or bad in and of it's self.

tazzygirl -> RE: Disarmament: NY leads the way. (2/1/2013 10:34:42 PM)

If something is deemed illegal to own/possess, a forced buy back is far better than just confiscation.

BamaD -> RE: Disarmament: NY leads the way. (2/1/2013 10:50:22 PM)

That was not an answer, is a forced buyback in and of it's self good or bad.
And is not the end effect of a forced buyback the same except that you get to feel good about giving the people some cash for what you forceably took from them.
Better than either one is don't take peoples property from them.

Exactly my point: "The city leads the nation in gun seizures, and its murder rate has been edging up while other cities have been trending downward."

Wont have a forced buy back without them being illegal.
