Status: offline 		I HAVE to wear heels when I wear dress pants suits to work because I'm short and if I don't wear heels they end up dragging on the floor. Yeah I could get them hemmed and I do some but for others, if I get them hemmed then they just don't look the same. The cut ends up just not working with the hem. I'm used to this though since when I was in high school, I took business classes and I had a teacher who taught business manners and etiquette and one of the rules was "always wear dresses and heels if you want to be taken seriously and professionally", right along with "sit up straight and never cross your legs, cross your ankles".

So the etiquette has always stuck with me and I still follow all those rules and manners today, inside and outside of business because I don't want to be seen as immature, unmannerly and not a lady. Yeah it's old fashioned and most of modern society probably doesn't even recognize these rules anymore but I notice them.

Status: offline 		I had to do cotillion and debutant crap when I was 13. We had to learn crossing ankles and stuff. I kinda appreciate it now, but a big poofy white 80s dress is not hot.lol

Status: offline 		haha. Thankfully I didn't have to do that. But I did have to learn how to set a table, which fork to use, what each glass was for, etc....She made us learn it in case we ever had business meetings over dinner or awards ceremonies to attend.

I'm always amazed when people ask what seem like normal manners and etiquette questions because I just always assumed everyone learned these as a kid. I've learned though that I seem to be the exception. But I'm very glad for it. It gives me an advantage above others.

I did the deb thing when I was 18. We had to take a class to learn how to curtsy. Which was kind of funny since they couldn't see our feet through the dress.

Whether or not I actually use it, well that's another story depending upon my mood at the moment.

It is nice to know I have the knowledge and mad skills, if the situation should arise to need, want to, use them.

Status: offline 		It's called "Social" here and I didn't have the money to put my kids through the program so we did a "home social class" every Saturday night for years. My step-mother did it with us kids and I knew I wanted to do it with my kids. I wanted them to be prepared to be in any situation from a 7-course meal to a ho-down in the country and at least to have the basic knowledge of a formal dance. They've told me many times how much they appreciate that we did that.

On topic ... I have to wear heels to work. Several years ago I was in a meeting with some physician executives and was wearing a pair of heeled sandles when one of the physician (had known him for years) leaned over to tell me how good my feet looked and how much he enjoyed a woman with small, pretty feet, painted toenails in pretty shoes. Come to find out throughout the meeting, he had quite a foot/shoe fetish. He smiled throughout the whole meeting. He never said another word about it, but it always made me smile when I was around him and would watch him as he checked out the feet of the women he was around.

And this is why I send mine to my mother. If they can be hemmed, she will do so. If not, then she does not. It would be nice if they made women's pants like they did men's pants with waist and length. A 28x28 would be nifty (or whatever my sizes would be.)

My grandmother was very much this way, too. Her husband was in local (County) politics and she hosted many a high end dinner. She also taught us about serving, pouring wine, and the like.

My mother, on the other hand, came from an extremely impoverished family and background. They were lucky to have food, so no one much cared how the table was set. However, with the career my dad had, she was regularly hosting dinners for high end dignitaries, and with 5 kids, she had to keep an orderly house. So she learned quickly, and was quite a charming and gracious woman when she had to be.

But because I've sampled both backgrounds, I don't judge people on their etiquette or not; I judge people in how they treat others.

Not sure how to tie this back into shoes, but those are my thoughts on etiquette lol.

Status: offline 		For the first time in a very long time I'm at a job where how I dress is important. This is the first laboratory I have ever worked at that is business casual. I don't specifically wear heels to work, unless I am wearing my suit. I only wear my suit for specific occasions. Some months I wear it more than others. I don't because I stand on my feet all day and they do provide us scrubs. We can wear tennis shoes when we have scrubs on. I have a cute little black pair of flats that are functional and comfortable. I've also found that after 8-9 hours on my feet with heels on I start to get cramps in my calfs.

It does surprise me often, how some of the administrative staff dresses. I'm even surprised that nothing has been said. I work for a very specific, strict organization and there are two girls in particular that wear their hooker heels, short dresses, and short skirts to work.

I find it hard to believe that women don't recognize the effect that high heels have on men when they wear them to work.
Not saying that it's the reason why women wear them, but to deny that it doesn't cross your mind is probably not very honest.
I like how they make my legs look.
I like that it makes me taller.
I like that I know men like it.

We're all women there except for Luis who takes care of the horses and I would seriously run the risk of injury to myself if I wore heels because of the type of job I have.
Although I don't think Luis would mind at all.

Status: offline 		Being that my career has always been in high end corporate or government businesses and most likely always will be, yeah, heels are pretty much a requirement. I can remember at my former workplace where it was all women, we would have monthly meetings and at almost every meeting we would get the lecture about shoes. A lot of people were coming into work wearing sandals, flipflops or athletic shoes since they figured it was just us women anyway. That didn't work with the bosses. It was dress shoes...be they heels or not but have to be dress shoes and if they didn't pass muster you were told about it and if it happened twice you were written up. The type of shoes seemed to be the big dress code there.

The only time I ever thought of men liking my feet and legs is when I went on dates and to nightclubs. I knew they would attract the right type of males I'm attracted to. But in the business world, I think of etiquette and dress codes and never about men.
