ORIGINAL: tazzygirl Whole Foods has a nice nitch in the local market here. Its one of the few places people can find gluten free products. But its not cheap... and I see people from all walks in there. The salad bar is delish though.. and the hot foods not bad. I like their sherbets... unusual blends. Having said all that... its not just a "progressive" shopping place. Whole Foods has 300+ locations, but not one near me. It's always seemed to be well groomed when Alton Brown was filming Good Eats, but to not have a store ready for a show filming would be ridiculous. According to one article, his sales have risen at least 12% a year for the past 3 years and had $11.7B in sales for the year ending this past September (a 16% rise). Apparently, there are plenty of people who are willing to pay the prices charged for the products they are getting. And, if you read the articles, he's actually environmentally conscious about his products. While it may seem that my supporting this is hypocritical, it isn't. I'm not against sustainability. I prefer the market to make that decision and not have Government force it. on us. This guy has done it by choice, and not by force.
