This grocer seems to think Obamacare is Fascist. Does this change anyone's ideas about the store?

I do not know what the O-c details are.

Here in The Netherlands we are by law obliged to have a health insurance since four or more years.

A couple of weeks ago I paid 1063 euro's for the whole year 2013. I have scarcely any money left.

I see it as a flat tax.

Before that I lived for a number of years without health insurance. At that time my physician worked for me: I paid him. (Not that I ever visited him, for I consider physicians to be incompetent and to be responsible for many of the health problems people suffer from. (Iatrogenic diseases.) Though chronically ill, I expect to not benefit from these incompetents.))

Now my physician does not work for me, but for my health insurance company: they pay him. See the problem?

What bothers me particularly is that my money is being used to finance the detrioriation of the health of many people by causing them to get iatrogenic diseases.

He is entitled to his opinion, and that is under the constitution.

However should he choose not to follow the law, then he would be subject to the penalties under the law for not following it.

I am not a big fan of Obama care either, since it does little to help people in my situation, and creates a burden on those who cannot afford health insurance at this time with the public mandate.

I can only hope that some move is made to correct some of its flaws in the near future.

Capitalists would rather people die than give up one cent of profit.

In fact, it does. I'll be doing my shopping there now instead of where I've been shopping.

As far as I'm concerned, the guy's pond scum already.

Try this link.

The guy unethically (I'm not sure about illegally) tried to trash Wild Oats online to drive down their stock price before acquiring it. In other posts made by his sock, he complimented his own looks.

Another link

I don't even LIKE Whole Foods as a store. Overpriced stuff, and too high end and gleaming for me.

DomKen -> RE: Does this matter to anyone? (1/17/2013 6:47:22 AM)

FR

He's doing a hell of a job driving his own, mostly progressive, customers away.

LizDeluxe -> RE: Does this matter to anyone? (1/17/2013 7:14:06 AM)

I have never been much of a Whole Foods shopper but it doesn't change my opinion of Whole Foods. I don't think he's too far off the mark and he and Hilary are cut from the same cloth.

Moonhead -> RE: Does this matter to anyone? (1/17/2013 7:17:42 AM)

Possibly not: do many of them know about this, or give a hoot if they do? Are all of his customer base progressive lefties, or is it conceivable that you get Libertarians, reactionaries and even white supremacists with a taste for health food?

mnottertail -> RE: Does this matter to anyone? (1/17/2013 7:26:51 AM)

Never heard of whole foods and don't give a fuck.

tazzygirl -> RE: Does this matter to anyone? (1/17/2013 7:46:11 AM)

Whole Foods has a nice nitch in the local market here. Its one of the few places people can find gluten free products. But its not cheap... and I see people from all walks in there. The salad bar is delish though.. and the hot foods not bad. I like their sherbets... unusual blends.

Having said all that... its not just a "progressive" shopping place.

Whole Foods has 300+ locations, but not one near me. It's always seemed to be well groomed when Alton Brown was filming Good Eats, but to not have a store ready for a show filming would be ridiculous.

According to one article, his sales have risen at least 12% a year for the past 3 years and had $11.7B in sales for the year ending this past September (a 16% rise). Apparently, there are plenty of people who are willing to pay the prices charged for the products they are getting.

And, if you read the articles, he's actually environmentally conscious about his products. While it may seem that my supporting this is hypocritical, it isn't. I'm not against sustainability. I prefer the market to make that decision and not have Government force it. on us. This guy has done it by choice, and not by force.

Push them all the way to the EU. [:D]

JeffBC -> RE: Does this matter to anyone? (1/17/2013 11:00:52 AM)

Yup, it sure does. They were in the "good" camp with Carol and I. In fact, Carol has some very personal history involving them which was strongly good. This stance, however, puts them right into the "Face of evil" bucket in my mind. They and Citibank can have a fine party together. You got two "sins" in play. The first is bandying about the term "fascism" in an emotional appeal. The second is his stated believe that providing for the physical health of it's citizens is not the job of the government. If that isn't, then I don't know what is. That's the problem with libertarianism. It's just a hypocritical form of anarchy.

subrob1967 -> RE: Does this matter to anyone? (1/17/2013 11:20:24 AM)

I only buy two things there, and since it's 25 miles from our house, don't go there unless I'm in the area. I prefer Trader Joe's myself.

Care to explain what part of his explanation you disagree with?

How is Libertarianism a "hypocritical form of anarchy?"

Moonhead -> RE: Does this matter to anyone? (1/17/2013 12:17:11 PM)

Because it assumes that anarchy can operate within the capitalist system without turning to shit, and mistakes a lack of regulation for the function of anarchy, rather than voluntary co-operation, at a guess.

Except there is regulation, and there is a definite role of government. Anarchy is, essentially, no rules; do whatever the fuck you want, and best of luck to ya.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Does this matter to anyone? (1/17/2013 12:30:05 PM)

Ive only been in a whole Foods once in Georgetown.
Here, we have Fresh Market and Earth Fare which are similar.

I'm thinking this guy might be misjudgeing his clientele and lose some customers.

Moonhead -> RE: Does this matter to anyone? (1/17/2013 12:32:45 PM)

Sorry, but there's a bit more to it than that. Have you not read Bakunin? He was quite convinced that some sort of structure would be necessary to support an anarchist society, and most anarchist political theorists have followed his lead since.
(You're familiar with Robert Anton Wilson's line in Illuminatus! about the spat between the left anarchists -who sound like socialists but want to abolish all functions of government- and the right anarchists/libertarians -who sound like fascists but want to abolish all forms of government- ? That seems germane here...)
