Basic U.S. Education 101 from around second grade: Food Stamps ARE a benefit to the populace provided for by taxpayers. Owning a gun is a Constitutional Right. When they wrote the words "General Welfare" in the Constitution, they meant things like the post office, taxation without representation, etc. General Welfare for all the people-not just some. If they wanted people to get free food stamps, they would have written "General Food Stamps." If the constitution is changed to guns being a "beneift" then I'm happy to take a drug test in order to keep my weapon that I legally own and have a permit for. If that happens, you can expect other laws to immediately follow requiring anyone who receives any benefit provided by tax dollars to take one. This includes people using our educational system. People who get HIV and need free healthcare and medicine for life. People who use Planned Parenthood as a form of birth control. People who have mail delivered at their house. People who have clean water piped to their house. People who drive on roads or take buses. A stoner walking home who gets hit by a drunk driver...both need medical care that is usually paid for by tax dollars in the end. The list is endless of what the taxpayers pay towards benefits for the populace at large. Since food stamps are mailed out every month by the government, I also expect to have the same benefits provided to me and other legal handgun owners, which equates to free money coming our way monthly to specifically purchase weapons. Fair is fair. Do you still think guns are a benefit? If so, why not just, you know, change free speech to a "benefit" also? We'll all just have to take a drug test in order to speak freely. Sure. Why not.
