How important is a sense of humor to you in a relationship?

kallisto -> RE: Humor? (1/20/2013 5:16:32 AM)

Humor is a must for me. And I mean more than just being a good joke teller. Life is way too short to never have a light moment, or to smile or laugh.

TenderTorment -> RE: Humor? (1/20/2013 5:21:37 AM)

I think it should be part of any well balanced rounded relationship, it's good to be able to laugh with and laugh at each other otherwise things would be pretty intense all the time.

Everyone has a sense of humor. The key thing within a relationship is to have a shared sense of humor.

It is more than just laughing together, which is fun and vital in a healthy and working relationship. It is an indicator of shared ideas, values, mores, and ethics. An intangible compatibility that is necessary for the solid foundation that makes for a strong and enduring relationship.

Love it!

Another element that a person's sense of humor can give you insight into is how seriously they take themselves. Everybody makes mistakes; if you can't laugh at yours, that's a sign that you take yourself way to seriously.

I was born into a family where, if you weren't born with a sense of humor, they gave you back!!

So ABSOLUTELY a sense of humor is a real attractant for me... with the exception of humor that is crass and demeaning.

Nothing like a good banter to keep you on your toes...err...stilettos! : )

needlesandpins -> RE: Humor? (1/20/2013 7:23:01 AM)

humor is important to me. you need to be able to laugh at yourself too. He and i have some of the most sureal conversations that are hillarious. we both need those laughs, and feel better for it. life is full of stress and crap, so the humour helps to dilute that.

^^^ same here.

absolutchocolat -> RE: Humor? (1/20/2013 11:30:54 AM)

I crack jokes constantly. If you're the serious type, pass me on by. Life is much too short to be stuffy and buttoned up all the time.

MissToYouRedux -> RE: Humor? (1/20/2013 12:03:19 PM)

Amusing me is part of the job description. [;)]

Focus50 -> RE: Humor? (1/20/2013 12:14:22 PM)

I can't be in any sort of relationship with anyone who doesn't know how to lighten up and laugh etc.

Not sure if it still does but there was a time my profile specifically stated that any sub will be needing a sense of humour around me. NOT during a scene but, cos then it'll likely sting - I love the contrasts D/s offers, too.... [8D]

I always wanted a man who is humorous but also knows when to be serious.

It's one of the things I love about Master.

Once again, like always, I like balance.

I don't like when a man is always joking about absolutely everything and never takes anything serious. It usually means to me they are avoiding something or they are immature and have no idea when they really need to take care of something. I've been with men like that and it drove me insane. I was always the one who had to "nag" them that something was important and they had to stop laughing it up or joking about it. Not everything in life is a joke. There are times when one has to bite the bullet and be serious and get things done.

Actually, I truly suck at telling jokes (mostly 'cause I forget them a week later) but I can and do see the lighter side of just about anything, even when it's not so appropriate....

So if someone has a joke to tell, I couldn't give a rat's clacker if it's tasteless, sexist, racist, even corny or whatever, as long as I laugh/smile etc - then admonish them for being tasteless/sexist/racist/corny/whatever. Win/win, I say...!

NuevaVida -> RE: Humor? (1/20/2013 5:32:10 PM)

I just turned to the Mister and asked him this question. He laughed and said, "Are you kidding me??"

Yeah, we laugh a LOT. Shared humor is muy importante over here. [:)]

LaTigresse -> RE: Humor? (1/20/2013 5:46:57 PM)

Often, when I am on vaca from work, I hear the comment "We've missed your laugh around here." when I return. Humour is absolutely VITAL to me. It's equal in importance to chocolate.

I just cannot stand being around anyone for any length of time who is too uptight to have a good laugh. Especially at their own expense. It also drives me nuts when people attempt to chastise me for laughing at myself.

lmpishlilhellcat -> RE: Humor? (1/20/2013 5:59:20 PM)

It's super important to me. One of the things I loved best about my husband is that he truly thinks I'm hilarious. My off handed and sarcastic comments make him laugh. I always say he gets me. At the same time he's funny too! He always makes me laugh when I'm feeling miserable or worrying, but like lw said he has balance. If he doesn't I just say, no I'm being serious and he flips modes.

cordeliasub -> RE: Humor? (1/20/2013 6:15:22 PM)

You can't spell punish without the word pun....just sayin [:D]

DesFIP -> RE: Humor? (1/20/2013 6:44:23 PM)

Our sense of humor must be compatible. That isn't always the case.

Level -> RE: Humor? (1/20/2013 7:33:28 PM)

It's hard to make me laugh, I wish it weren't so.
