According to the CDC:

"Why aren’t HPV vaccines recommended for people older than 26?

Both vaccines were studied in thousands of people from 9 through 26 years old and found to be safe and effective for these ages. The vaccine is not licensed in the United States for persons over age 26 years, as GARDASIL has not been demonstrated to prevent HPV-related outcomes in a general population of women and men older than 26 years of age."

This is another article explaining why it's not usually given to older men and women. Basically at the time of the study, while it was shown to help some older women, overall, not so much since there are so many strains of HPV that most older people have already been exposed. Yes, there's the exceptions but in general, not enough of them to bother. But you can always decide if you think you have a chance of beating HPV. You just need to find a dr who will give it to you.
