Our birds are worthy of protection, too and there are quite a few that are endangered.
Too many people get cats and believe that those animals are self-sufficient and only need food, water, and occasional scritches.
They need a good deal of attention, and they need options for play and occupation. Otherwise you end up with a aggressive cat, or a cat that shreds your stuff. Letting them outside is taking the easy way out, but it comes at a cost for your cat as well as for the local fauna.
Yep and thank god we can happily have different opions in that respect [:D][:D][:D]
But I am also thankful that the wind is slowly changing when it comes to cats being allowed outdoors.
If it would only affect you and your cat, well fine, but the price is paid by other people, too.
Not only do I like the local birds and want to keep them, a random neighbours cat shitting in my garden, or childrens play area is not amusing.
We own cats, who live a happy life indoors.
One of them is a big male who came to us when his previous owners decided to re-home him, as they believed his destructive tendencies to be because of a need to be able to go outside.
Since he is living with us, and is getting his needs met, he has let go of his former bad habits, and is quite a contend indoor kitty.
While it does require more work than simply opening the door, it is more than worth it.
Well...that wind might be changing in your area if that is the case, but not here.
Over here cats roam around and mine are allowed to go out when they wish to as well, which is not gonna change. Beside that, my parents have 2 cats which are way more outside than mine and they also do like the birds and simply put certain protection around in the middle of the trees so that they aren't able to climb up there in the first place....so them leaving their cats outside does not prevent them from enjoying the birds and keeping them reasonably safe, too.
And last but not least....my neighbour on the bottom floor is actually happy that my cats do roam around....as the mice population decreased significantly in her garden last year... so quite frankly not every neighbour is necessarily annoyed about it....[:)]
I said my view in the previous post where I explained what I would be doing if I would be living in a country like NZ, as I can understand it in regards to the wildlife over there, but I am not bored enough to repeat myself unneccessarily nor am I bored enough to start a more in depth debate in which I couldn't be less interested in, in the first place [8|]
