I was thinking of trying apples, pears, oranges, peaches, all fruits I love to eat.

We have a juicer my dad just bought one.

If this would work how much of the juice from the fruit would I likely need? What fruits would produce the strongest best flavors when diluted. I'm planning on putting a few drops at a time, until desired taste. And would I have to worry about the juice in the water spoiling and going bad if not refrigerated. I would think I would.

I'm looking to replace the Crystal light I drink with something a bit more natural. Or way natural.

I love their peach tea flavor, but I do not love all the dyes and the fake stuff in it. I won't use Mio for the same reasons I am moving away from crystal light. All the fake crap in it.

I am thinking maybe if I find a tea bag that tastes good cold I can pre brew up some tea bags in the flavors I like and put them in a water bottle to take on the go? I have been told Celestial seasonings has cold brew tea and I'll check them out.

I am diabetic so I can't drink soda's or Juices, but I can eat fruits
plus I'd like it to be water based. I hate sparkling water or mineral water, they're so nasty. I don't want aspartame in it. I would really rather no artificial sweeteners, though I drink splenda every now and then, and stevia and those other ones we hear that are all natural and healthy would be ok.

I have already tried the putting fruit in the water and letting it sit, and it did exactly jack shit to make the water any less plain or boring.

I tried drinking mint tea cold and it was nasty. And I prefer the tea tase sweet enough on its own I won't need sugar at all, or much sugar. Also the teas I tried, their flavopr is extremely weak hot as it is, so I doubt they'd be tasty cold.

I currently make ice tea at home, just plain old lipton cold brew, but I'd love flavors.

I am going to try juicing some fruits and try what a little juice from the fruits will do.

I don't know about using a juicer, but it's super easy to flavor water with fresh lemons or cucumbers. It's a very fresh taste. I'm sure you could do the same thing with fresh sliced strawberries, kiwi, or any other fruit.

Well once I was told to try zesting orange peel into my water and I tried that and it didn't do jack shit, but I could try strawberries left to have a nice soak over night, see if that actually works.

I love fresh lemon in my water. In the summer I usually will squeeze a fresh lemon into my water and a little lemon zest. I do the same with oranges, limes, cucumbers. You could also use strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries....pretty much any fruit you want to.

but if you're used to really, really sweet stuff like Crystal Light or any other kind of juices or teas made with artificial flavors, you most likely are going to find every single one of these boring to your palate. Your palate is used to the strong flavor of sweeteners and probably won't even taste the fresh fruits in your water or you will find them bland, boring or tart.

You will have to acquire the taste of water first. You need to cut out the artificial drinks altogether so your palate can get back to normal.

It may just be me, but I have found the best way to flavor water is to add whiskey and ice.

However my sister and niece do the juice thing, squeezing lemon, limes and oranges in water and they say it works well. I would assume that using a juicer would do just as good, but then I stated my opinion in my first sentence.

God, that brings back an ancient memory. I had a friend in college who drank hot water with a bit of lemon peel in it. I tried it once and sipped politely. "Subtle, isn't it?" he said. It took all my self-control to keep from saying, "Tony, there's nothing subtle about plain water!"

When I'm feeling ill, I will make a "tea" of hot water, lemon and a little bit of honey. I personally think it helps. Like I said, for people used to strong flavors, they most likely are not going to like such things.

That's been my experience though.

Actually wonder, it really helps. Depending on what the ailment is, there are natural remedies that actually help more, in my opinion, than what you can get at the store.

You might consider doing some research on it and trying it out. The only thing I have found that is natural and really does not help are remedies for migraines.

A little bit of lemon juice in water is actually very good for you. It helps to let go of retained water.

I do 4 glasses with lemon juice a day, then the rest is plain water. (other than my one diet coke)

I don't think it cures me, jlf, but it does help me to feel better. Honey and lemon are known to help tremendously in healing though. Honey can even be used on sores to help keep them from getting infections. I don't discount all natural remedies. I'm just tremendously skeptical on many until I try it myself and the research has been done extensively by objective scientists and the medical community.

That sounds wonderfully soothing for an under-the-weather adult, and I may try it next time I'm sick.

But alas, it wasn't the drink for a healthy college sophomore.

I know it doesn't seem so, but I love plain water. It's one of my most favorite drinks on a hot day. A nice ice cold plain bottle of water. But I also have times that I want to feel like I am getting a treat, something special, and that's where crystal light comes in. Or other flavored waters.

My dad's done that for me, it's delicious! And on top of that it soothes my sore throat a bit.

well just be careful with the Crystal Light stuff. If you're going to use it, just use a third of what you normally use...just give it a tinge of flavor to satisfy your craving.

Yeah, I'll try that, normally i just dump an entire to go packet in the water, and sometimes yes I find the taste over powering, I'll try just a lil bit at a time. Though truthfully I wanna use it all up and get it out of the house. Which won't take long most my 4 boxes are gone almost.

If you have been told fruit is ok, but not juice, they are likely referring to the juice you buy in the store, not something you put through a juicer.  That is nothing but the fruit.

As lw said, you are used to the strong, sugary tasting drinks that you have been consuming.  It takes time to get used to things that aren't that sweet.

So if you typically put two packets of *whatever* sweetener in your tea, put only one and a half in for a while and get used to it.  Don't go on and on about how you don't like it, simply keep drinking it that way until you adjust to the tasted and can enjoy it.  Then go to one packet and do the same thing.  Then one half, then one quarter....just keep lowering the amount of sweetener until you get to using none.

As for the juice/water thing, yes they will need to be refridgerated.  You don't really want water, you are looking how to make your water taste like juice.  So water down the juice.  Start with pure juice and mix with water until you find it pleasing.  Keep adjusting with more water, less juice.

The reason they say that is because you're consuming far more fruit by drinking juice and it's removed the benefits of fiber. To get a small glass of orange juice takes three oranges, but you wouldn't sit down and eat three oranges.

Yes. Fruit is ok because you are getting other things out of it, its absorbed slower than the glass, its taking longer to eat than to drink. Its less proccessed, the peel, such as in apples kind of off set the sugar I think.

Also 1 apple or orange, or pear or what have you, will have far less sugar than fruite juice. It also wont have things like high fructose corn syrup, which she does not want me to have at all.

stay away from fructose as much as possible. That stuff will do you in. Unfortunately it's in almost everything we ingest. It's one of the things that most likely is causing your heartburn you said you have as well.

Read labels of anything before you buy it.

I have no doubt both of us would be healthier if I did read the lables, and if I was into being little ms home maker n cooked everything from scratch and all that. Im kinda sad in some waus that I have no inclination to be lil ms home maker to such a huge degree as to cook and be a domestic goddess.
