Termyn8or -> Off Topic discussion ? Here we go, I feel young (6/19/2006 8:13:24 PM)

The following sequence of events resulted in this. First of all I have not eaten today, and I have had a few beers. I am not drunk though.

My mechanic was here today fixing other things (of mine/ours) and he is between cars. That is he got rid of the old car and hasn't transferred the insurance over and got plates for his present car. This is a short lived situation, but I had to drop him off home today.

On the way home this big body Chrysler pulls up next to me at a light. The next light he has to get over into my lane, to get on the freeway. I gave my Buick's accelerator about a 75% trounce, putting him in his place. What did I do then ? I let him in the lane after I slowed down. I signaled him with the light flash, 'go ahead'.

When we merged I could tell he was getting on it, I was getting on it and he was not falling behind. Once clear of other traffic, I let the Buick Redball engine loose, and summarily passed him, basically blowing his doors off.

The really nice thing about this is there was no animousity, no anger or anything. This person may be a kindred spirit and simply wants to blow the carbon off of the intake valves once in a while. It was not a race, you don't race on public roads. Neither of us exceeded 90 MPH either.

It felt good, and the other driver was reasonable too, once we caught up to the next bunch of cars, the 'race' was over. I got home safely and I hope they did as well.

Those of you have had a Redball 3.8 know them. These things have roller cams and almost semi-race cams. All the engine mounts have to be replaced AGAIN. In my feeling good mode I am proud of this.

I showed that Chrysler luvin biotch what a GM product can do. I have shown a few Fords too.

I feel good. Even though my Uncle was an executive at Ford, I still have more confidence in a GM product. With me, Chrysler is not even in the running excdpt for some older models, like the 69 Super Bee. Wouldn't mind one of those.

Yup, when we got on the freeway they played a good hillbilly tune n the radio and that was it.

So many times I post, replying to something political etc., who knows, but there is so much negativity in that. I really don't intend that, but I am a realist. I wanted to contribute something positive, upbeat if you will.

Anyway, you Ford and Chrysler lovers out there, I will school you. General Motors has been at the forefront for a long time. That is why they had the first American made totally fuel injected car, that's why they had the most advanced engine control in the 80s and 90s. That's why they had the first submersed fuel pump in the tank, BACK IN 1970 !. That's why they won the Grand National in 1986 with the same engine I have. (that one was supercharged though)

What good is an El Dorato if a Pinto can pass you ?? The people at Cadillac saw this and responded with the Northstar, and the rest of GM used a Quad four, ½ a Northstar.

So what shall I name my renegade Buick ? (Peppy is taken)

I love speed myself, a safe 'race' is always fun.  Very happy to hear you were both sensible and not liek some of the maniacs I've seen on the streets, residential street even with pedestrians and children in the area, terrible.

Happy you had fun [:D]

You know GM's sales have been so down in the dumps the Oklahoma City plant is closing.
There aren't a lot of people left to take away their pensions.  Yet my Uncle in OKC is losing his as well as thousands of others.
In this day and age I don't think one brand name over another is better.  It is just nobody is answering the calls of the people and what they need.

My past 3 cars have been Chevys. I seem to exceed the speed on i80.

Ild love to race you.  Pencil me in!

GM   Gods Mistake.  Ford mustang with its 4.6 will uhh will uhh...  oh I forgot the engine is heavy and shitty!!!
Well my 1.3 liters of rotary fury will sodomize your 3.8.

Seriously, I don't get the car obsession.  It's a tool, a mode of transportation.

Also, I'm a killjoy.  To me, having "a few beers on an empty stomach" would certainly put you well over the legal limit, whether you think you were drunk or not.  The story you told indicates impaired judgement, to say the least.

"It was not a race, you don't race on public roads" - you gotta be kidding me.  What exactly do you think you were you doing then?

"Neither of us exceeded 90 mph" - well, good for you, you were only at least 20 miles over the speed limit.  Add reckless driving (in all 50 states) to the list.

And then the very next post calls it "a safe race"...

You may think so.  You're entitled to your opinion whenever it doesn't endanger others.  This was stupid, reckless, illegal and not something anyone should be proud of.  Thank God you didn't hit anyone.... yet.

Dude nothing wrong at 90mph I cruise at 100 on average depending on the highway and the time

caitlyn -> RE: Off Topic discussion ? Here we go, I feel young (6/20/2006 10:40:56 AM)

In Houston, we park at around 90mph. [;)]

How many radar detectors are in your car?

meatcleaver -> RE: Off Topic discussion ? Here we go, I feel young (6/20/2006 10:54:32 AM)

Moved to the city and got rid of my car because there is nowhere to park it and despite its advertised 140 mph, the tram beats it into town doing 30mph and on a good day I can beat the tram into town on my bicycle.

Cars are becoming a millstone round ones neck rather than perceived freedom where I live.

I learned how to drive in NY city...and yes I do drive like the nuts in the movies..lol    Now that I am in Fla...I do drive very slow and careful on the neighborhood streets.  But now after years of driving Mommy vehicles..(mini vans and station wagons) I have a firebird and love nothing more than packing an overnight bag..hoping into the car and taking off to the keys...lauderdale..or Cape coral to visit friends... take off the T-tops...crank the music and roll along at 95 miles an hour....ahhh it feels good to drive like that again....What ?  the sign says 95  ( I-95)  lol

OedipusRexIt -> RE: Off Topic discussion ? Here we go, I feel young (6/20/2006 11:01:58 AM)

Cool.  I now understand that speed laws don't apply to several people.  Also,  apparently they are immune from making mistakes.

Congratulations on your willingness to face death and offer that same opportunity to total strangers.

Do what you like with your own safety, but leave the rest of us out of it.  Consider the word "responsibility" and whether you have any acquaintance with it at all.

Fair enough.  Thanks for self-identifying.

darkinshadows -> RE: Off Topic discussion ? Here we go, I feel young (6/20/2006 11:47:40 AM)

One of the most irresponsible things I have ever heard or read.

bklynbbw -> RE: Off Topic discussion ? Here we go, I feel young (6/20/2006 11:49:02 AM)

Hmmm...Im sure I did say I would be rolling along at that speed..meaning that most of the others on the road are doing the same.  I am not darting in and out of cars nor am I riding on anyones tail to get them to move over for me.  When traffic dictates I slow down, I do so.  I happen to be a very responsible person....as for leaving people out of things, you can count on my doing so.

OedipusRexIt -> RE: Off Topic discussion ? Here we go, I feel young (6/20/2006 11:56:54 AM)

Not my place to say whether or not you drive responsibly, and in general I believe most people get the benefit of the doubt, unless of course they openly admit otherwise.

I would put forward the idea, however, that simply because others are speeding doesn't make it ok.  Certainly there is something to be said for the need to keep with the flow of traffic, but there is much more to be said for keeping within rules designed for everyone else's safety as well as your own.  "Everyone's doing it" is the original Slippery Slope.

As for responsibility, to me that not only means saying "I did that" when something wrong is done, it is also saying "I know better than to do that"  in the first place.

ShiftedJewel -> RE: Off Topic discussion ? Here we go, I feel young (6/20/2006 12:33:16 PM)

I had a '70 Monte Carlo, small block 350, turbo glide tranny (or something like that) and that car would shit 'n git. I have no idea how fast it would go, but the speedometer stopped at 120. And aside from my dad... fords don't park in my driveway... lol

We currently have a 70 Nova that we're going to "restore". It's gonna be a pro-street. That way should Scooter ever get the drag racing bug again he can take it down to the dragstrip.
