I believe you are somewhat wrong here...people are not selling themselves they are defining themselves. Through their pictures they are defining what they are and what they want.

Modesty may not be what they want...hell… sex as we think of it may not be what they want with explicit photos.

Otherwise it is each to their own... how they present themselves is up to them and meant to attract like minded people.

What is modest to ME may not be what is modest to YOU.
That is one of those terms that is very personal and has a different meaning for everyone.

Who says, that everyone with a nude photo is looking for sex?
Who says only people who are nude are looking sex?
Or that only people who are nude are sexual or selling their sexuality?

I personally find Lady Pacts avatar extremely sexy and sexual even though she is fully clothed. (no I am not saying she is selling sex or looking for anything sexual)

I get more sexual comments with my foot pictures than I ever did with nude photos. Lol

And no I don't thinking looking for a play partner is looking for quick love.

Let me rephrase this one based on your comment:  It's entirely possible to be comfortable in your own skin while keeping clothes on.  

You're right. Modesty can be subjective and carry different meanings to others.  As can love.  Some view it as an act, some affection, some as attachment...
I used the term, love, loosely.  

I don't think I stated 'everyone' with a naked pic was looking for sex or that people without nude photos weren't looking for sex.  
I did not state my explanation as the absolute, and I wouldn't even attempt to create a full listing of reasonings behind nude pics because 1) I don't know all the reasons and 2) the list would be picked apart anyway.   My thought was merely just one possible explanation.   Everyone is different, and each have their own reasonings. 

Many (not most and not all, because I don't know the statistics) people on CM are looking for someone, no matter what the reason may be.   When they're looking for a match, there is a level of selling there. 
Their profile and pictures they choose are part of their advertisement. 
Some choose to advertise wits, some with intelligence, others with looks, and some with a few of these.  Some post what's important to them, where some may post what they believe to be important to others (including the fakes, if there really are such a thing. I think there still needs to be more posts about it to determine, for attention). 

It's not a secret that some men, and yes women too, want to see the naked pics (otherwise nude magazines would have gone out of business a long time ago).  I look at them.  If they see a naked pic, they'll possibly want to click on that profile and see more of what the person has to offer.  
Some use this to their benefit.  The naked pic gives them some quick attention, IMO. 

If I had two identical profiles, one with a nude pic and one without, I wouldn't be surprised if the nude would attract more traffic.  More attention.

Oh yeah? Well some people go to picnics to enjoy shirtless men,or girls in "daisy dukes". Anyway, my point is that everyone's profile is not going to cater to your interests, meet your standards, or in some cases be unoffensive to you......and they shouldn't have to.

Your pofile is nothing more than a way to express yourself. One might ask why you have a picuture that has nothing to do with "the lifestyle" as your profile picture? The answer is simple.....it is a representation of your self-expression through your sense of humor.....i think.

Also, having nude photos does not indicate that someone is looking for sex. I for one usually have one or two nude photos here and I am in a happy, monogamous relationship.

I've read most of the answers, but not all, so I'm not trying to repeat anyone here.

There are quite a few women with more "provocative" photos, like absolutchocolate (which is a nice picture) who is obviously comfortable with herself and what she is looking for. That's great.

However, I think many women post cleavage/tit shots as a primary because they figure it is what is expected of them. Those same women often come here wondering why they get the "on your knees, bitch," and "let's fuck" type messages. That's where I have the issues. If those types of messages are something you want to avoid, don't lead with your tits. Sorry, just the way it is.

ac may "lead" with her tits, but I've never seen her here complaining about the types of messages she gets.

As for the men, they post pics of their dicks, because it IS what they are leading with. Whether they are top or bottom, they are trying to impress us with their package, be it with their confidence of its beauty, or belief that it deserves ridicule. They want to show everyone what they have.

I've yet to see a guy with a dick pick who doesn't fit one of those two categories.

They post nude (frontal) photos because they think they are the only ones with JUNK to show off.

It's like driving through a neighborhood when everyone's having a lawnsale. Most of the stuff is the same you have in your own house, some of it's dingy and gross, sometimes you see something odd that makes you look twice....and perhaps to some, what they have is "treasure".

TASTEFUL nudes are ok...By tasteful I mean like "classical art" poses where the JUNK isn't right in your face...it's rare to see that though.

Personally, even if I were single and SEEKING, I'd still prefer the "vanilla" shots of people just doing what they like to do. Those are usually the ones I write to out of the blue, by the way. (hint hint)

I think we need to distinguish between headless nudes and full frontal (with face) nudes.

A headless nude is merely one way to post a kinky picture without being recognized while a full nude (with face) is only what fits into your discussion.
