As I recently learned, it is a bad idea to joke about conspiracies. They are serious business to some people. But if you are interested in inventing your own conspiracy theory for fun or profit, there is a time-tested formula:

1. Pick bad thing X that happened (it doesn’t matter what or when).

2. Postulate a conspiracy was behind it* (it doesn’t matter who or why). This is all you need to get going, but there are a few techniques you can use to fill in the blanks about what really happened during X.

3. Cherry pick factoids, take details out of context, mine quotes from public figures, elevate obscure minor incidents to center stage, juxtapose unrelated events, obsess over coincidence, point to suspicious lack of evidence that (if it existed) would support your theory, and always, always have pictures with big red arrows pointing to nothing in particular.

The general rule is: stitch together everything that vaguely supports your theory or calls into question the mainstream explanation, and ignore or deny everything that does not fit.

4. In later stages, once your campaign to uncover the truth is well-developed, create a really poorly-produced internet “documentary,” set it to scary music, and have your college roommate narrate it.

5. Denounce skeptics and scientists who debunk your claims as tools of the conspiracy, and make it clear that anyone who doubts your theory is a Moreaun human-sheep hybrid creature afflicted with narcolepsy. Tell them they need to, “Wake UP, SHEEPLE!”

6. Compile a list of a tiny number of “experts” that support some of your claims, and use it to lend a veneer of scientific credibility to your theory. Wherever possible, use misattributed, unsourced, and quotes taken out of context from experts who do not support your theory to imply they do.

7. Create lists of “unanswered questions” that, regardless of how well-answered, will always remain “unanswered.”

Events ripe for potential conspiracy theories:

• The Space Shuttle Challenger disaster
• The Lusitania
• World Trade Center Building 6
• The Titanic
• The Tangshan Earthquake or any natural disaster
• The 1918 Spanish Flu Pandemic
• AIDS
• Death of Ronald Reagan

Potential conspirators:

• Jews. Always the Jews.
• The President (any president)
• United Nations
• Pentagon/military-industrial complex
• CIA
• British royal family
• HAARP
• Federal Reserve (and bankers generally)
• Robber barons
• Council on Foreign Relations
• Trilateral Commission
• The Bilderberg Conference

Mythical groups potentially behind anything:

• Ancient aliens. Always ancient aliens.
• New World Order
• Illuminati
• Free Masons
• Reptilians

* Or, if a conspiracy really was behind it, add some unnecessary elements or another layer of conspiracy on top of what is generally accepted to have happened, just to blunt Occam’s Razor.
For example: the Black Hand really did assassinate Archduke Ferdinand...but there was a second shooter on the roof of the cafe!
Or: yeah, Mohammad Atta did it...but the CIA helped him!

Build Your Own Conspiracy Theory

A little humor (sadly, based on truth) for the weekend.

I have a simple rule for judging conspiracy theories (well, aside from dubious physics, and belief in ancient secret societies, etc)... how many people are alleged to be involved in the conspiracy? The truth of the matter is, people are lousy secret keepers. People like to blab... mostly because it is so much fun to have a secret. It gives you a sense of power over those who are not in on the secret. Of course, you have to tell at least one other person otherwise no one knows. The more people who blab, the more likely the conspiracy will be exposed. Given this propensity of people to blab we come to Marc2b's Law of Conspiracy theories: The more people alleged to be involved in a conspiracy, the less likely the conspiracy actually exists.

NOTE: I do not fancy myself possessed of so unique an intelligence that I was the first person to formulate this law. However, I have never seen or heard it expressed anywhere else. So, until someone shows me conclusive proof that someone else came up with this before me... I will continue to consider it as Marc2b's Law of Conspiracy Theories.

Of course, there might be a conspiracy against me to subvert the truth and rob me of my due credit.

There is a serious problem in the US today: using "conspiracy theorist" label to dodge and push back legitimate questions. Simply questioning the official version may end you in "conspiracy nut" category. 9/11 is a perfect example.

Yes, the President will come and take your guns, no conspiracy there.

and that they can't tell you the whole truth because their computer is being hacked, their phone bugged, black helicopters are overhead and there's a sniper outside his window so he's typing to you on his phone while he's hiding in his closet.

Fox seems to be taking lessons from this primer...

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/02/02/white-house-puts-out-photo-obama-shooting-at-camp-david/

"The president is holding the shotgun as one would hold and aim a rifle," said John H. Josselyn, legislative vice president for the Associated Gun Clubs of Baltimore Inc. "If the president were actually shooting on a skeet or trap range, he would have been wearing a belt with a shell bag or a shooting vest. This is a poorly staged publicity photo intended to deceive the public by portraying the president as something he is not."

Yes, they went to Camp David, melted all the snow from the trees and grounds, put the president in a t-shirt and had a photo made of him shooting a gun.

Oh, the photoshopping opportunities this presents the whackadoos...

Now, to be fair (something Fox knows little about), I don't doubt this was done solely as a photo-op by Pres. Obama; ALL pols do that crap, and I hate it.

the notion that a conspiracy has to be "secret" to be a conspiracy is absurd. It can all be right out in the open open if people have no clue what the law is.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhZk8ronces

Below is copied from the transcript:

"The very word "secrecy" is repugnant in a free and open society; and we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths and secret proceedings. We decided long ago that the dangers of excessive and unwarranted concealment of pertinent facts far outweighed the dangers which are cited to justify it. Even today, there is little value in opposing the threat of a closed society by imitating its arbitrary restrictions. Even today, there is little value in insuring the survival of our nation if our traditions do not survive with it. And there is very grave danger that an announced need for increased security will be seized upon those anxious to expand its meaning to the very limits of official censorship and concealment. That I do not intend to permit to the extent that it is in my control. And no official of my Administration, whether his rank is high or low, civilian or military, should interpret my words here tonight as an excuse to censor the news, to stifle dissent, to cover up our mistakes or to withhold from the press and the public the facts they deserve to know."

"For we are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence--on infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead of free choice, on guerrillas by night instead of armies by day. It is a system which has conscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly knit, highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific and political operations.

Its preparations are concealed, not published. Its mistakes are buried not headlined. Its dissenters are silenced, not praised. No expenditure is questioned, no rumor is printed, no secret is revealed."

No President should fear public scrutinity of his program. For from that scrutiny comes understanding; and from that understanding comes support or opposition. And both are necessary. I am not asking your newspapers to support the Administration, but I am asking your help in the tremendous task of informing and alerting the American people. For I have complete confidence in the response and dedication of our citizens whenever they are fully informed.

I not only could not stifle controversy among your readers-- I welcome it. This Administration intends to be candid about its errors; for as a wise man once said: "An error does not become a mistake until you refuse to correct it." We intend to accept full responsibility for our errors; and we expect you to point them out when we miss them.

Without debate, without criticism, no Administration and no country can succeed-- and no republic can survive. That is why the Athenian lawmaker Solon decreed it a crime for any citizen to shrink from controversy. And that is why our press was protected by the First (emphasized) Amendment-- the only business in America specifically protected by the Constitution-- not primarily to amuse and entertain, not to emphasize the trivial and sentimental, not to simply "give the public what it wants"--but to inform, to arouse, to reflect, to state our dangers and our opportunities, to indicate our crises and our choices, to lead, mold educate and sometimes even anger public opinion.

This means greater coverage and analysis of international news-- for it is no longer far away and foreign but close at hand and local. It means greater attention to improved understanding of the news as well as improved transmission. And it means, finally, that government at all levels, must meet its obligation to provide you with the fullest possible information outside the narrowest limits of national security...

"And so it is to the printing press--to the recorder of mans deeds, the keeper of his conscience, the courier of his news-- that we look for strength and assistance, confident that with your help man will be what he was born to be: free and independent."

so you feel kennedy was talking out of his ass then?

would you expect any less from criminal enablers?

speaking of 911, thats easier than the holocaust debate if animated gifs can be posted.

its disturbing and precisely what kennedy complains about above.

That and what this does is take the heat off the biggest criminals. Its the courts that ultimately do it. The court system rules this country not the legislature and guess what.........you have no fucking say in supreme court, they make all the decisions and tell you where the bear shits in the ole buckywheat because your rights have been reduced priviliges forcing you to run the statutory labyrinth maze to even get to the point of adjudicating your rights.

Not to mention the only court system we have IS under the united states.

In Suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise re-examined in any Court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law.

All courts are established under the ama, established under the united states, which is established under the united states of america. LOL

and who gave the government the FINAL say on what the fuck the law is?

If they have the final say then where does that leave the people who are presumed to be in charge of the joint?

This government is a never ending quagmire of bullshit.

Like I said everyone holds their guns the government uses subterfuge and slice and chip away in the courts. Its a smoldering pile that at some point will burst and the lead will start flying. OWS overall point was right on but usually when things get to the point that lead starts flying it hits the wrong targets because the real targets are never seen or heard of in the news. Fuck they dont even get audited.

I can show you many critical rulings through this countries history where its painfully obvious that someones bank account was polished, or their family threatened.
