I'm glad that with everything on your plate that you are able to keep up with your work outs and that you are seeing positive affects from it!

For the 1st time in years, today I tried on jeans.
The last time I bought pants they were a 22/24 today I got into a size 13 comfortably!

Plus I loved how I looked in them!
When I moved to MD in 2001 I was a size 9/10, I'm wondering if I can realistically get back to that size.

I have started running again, I used to run a min. of 5 miles every day.
I ran when I got the urge, was stressed or upset, or just wanted to feel the pounding of the earth under my feet.
I am only running around my block at this point, but this past week I did that on top of my normal daily work out 3xs. Not at scheduled times, just when I got the urge. It felt wonderful! I realized how much I missed running, that feeling. It is addictive.

When I have a particularly stressful day at work I run. I usually run a lot faster when I'm really pissed. I go home a happy person and my husband never has to know that I was all grumpy and cranky. I fell into two blah weeks of workouts. They weren't as tough as I would have liked them to be. They were sort of half assed. I started logging only 5-6 miles a week while running. I'm out of that funk. I logged 12 miles this week and I feel good about it! I'm training for that zombie 5K with obstacles. I've been taking more hilly routes. I've shortened my mile time and I can go longer and farther in one run. It's been great.

Hiya Imp!

A blah work out is better than no work out!

I love running on streets, trails, and my favorite is the beach.
Even when I used to run x-country in hs and college I was known for running barefoot. I HATE working out and running in shoes.

I remember once, in California I got stopped by a police officer b/c I was running barefoot at 11 pm and he wanted to make sure I was okay. Lol

Lol, now they make "shoes" that are for barefoot running. It's a big craze right now. It works a whole different set of muscles apparently. Unfortunately for me I need support or I twist my ankles so I just look for a really comfy pair of running shoes!

Imp,
I know. I was given a pair of those shoes for when I run and it's still very different.
I kicked them off during my run.
Which is what I used to do when I ran in running shoes.

Nothing compares to running barefoot IMO.
It's just a totally different feel and experience.

I used to have ankle twist issues, I found walking
in thongs helps work out the muscles that help
with it... Everyones feet legs are different though,
knock kneed, bow legged, the stresses on
everyones feet/ankles are unique but for the
runners with access to beaches. I sware by beach
jogging for weight loss.

Hey! Don't let the workout thread die! I can only
assume that the lack of postering is due to people
losing workout motivation!
So everyone who has working out they should be
doing, make sure you check in with updates!!!

My update is: I have recieved more compliments,
so that translates into results! I see results but to
me, the results don't seem very noticable, the
compliments are a handy assurance that other
people actually do see the changes as well, so
thats a great boost to my motivation!

I have uped my morning rides to 20kms at sunrise
to help burn off some fat and improve cardio a bit,
the strength training is also progressing very well!

Going very good!!!

How does wearing a g-string affect your ankles?

I missed this thread when it first started. It's got some great info in it.

After a week of blah's, and extra work, I'm finally getting back into the groove of going to the gym. Went on wed, and again today. I'm still a little sore from wed, but that's what I get for not going for a week, and then doing more than normal.

I agree with other's in that it's not about the pounds lost so much as the inches. I started working out again in dec. to try to protect myself. I work a physically demanding job sometimes, so I wasn't in bad shape to begin with. But recently I've noticed more back injuries in colleagues my age. So, knowing that I am not balanced in my core muscles, I decided to do something about it. I've been focusing mostly on my abs, as my back is pretty strong from my job, but my abs were non-existent.

Well, a couple of months later, my abs are still hiding behind a layer of squish, but the squish is geting smaller. I've even gone down a belt hole. I've also started getting comments that I've lost weight. I had to check for myself (I don't own a scale. I use the one in shipping every couple of months). They were right!

I also started actually eating breakfast in the mornings, and that has made a huge difference on my energy levels during the day.

Thanks so much for this thread. It made me feel good to read about others trying to get/stay healthy.

Personal victory this morning:

We've had a sudden snap of bad weather, about 6 inches of snow in the last two days plus some pretty bad winds.
This morning I put on my trainers and went running anyway.

Far from my best performance but I'm proud of myself for not using it as an excuse. Woo!

Recently as an incentive for a charity opportunity, my workplace allows us to wear jeans on Fridays. I haven't really worn jeans, because I feel like I'm at work all the time. I basically feel like I'm always in business casual, my scrubs, workout clothes, and of course pajama pants. So I had to buy a smaller pair of jeans and I realized that I'm kinda rocking an hourglass figure. Which I think is pretty cool. I've been running a lot these last two weeks. It seems to be all I have the energy for. The weather has warmed up a bit on and off. When it isn't incredibly muddy I run outside. I've been logging anywhere from 11-15 miles per week. The scale hasn't moved in awhile, but it finally moved a couple of more pounds. I have of course noticed inches.

I've been making a new soup for work each week. I fill them with a lot of veggies and it seems to be healthy and hearty. I'm staying filled up a lot longer. I've been pairing that with snack of celery and PB, carrots, cherry tomatoes, fruits, and/or weight watchers string cheese.

I'm having a hard time with eating out, when we occasionally do. It seems to be making me sick to my stomach. I just feel yucky and terrible. I think I need to lean towards the more healthy options. Even something as simple as pizza makes my stomach upset.

Impish do you follow recipes for your soups or do you just throw in whatever veggies you have? I keep meaning to make more soups.

I'm challenging myself this week to go back to basics with my cooking. I use too many shortcuts - ready made pastry and seasoning sachets. Which would be fine if everything wasn't massively laden with salt and bulked out with all sorts of junk. I got out my Gran's cookbook last night. She got it in 1950 when she got married, and gave it to me when I got married. I'm going to try and cook exclusively from that this week. It will be a challenge, since most recipes don't have oven temperatures, but it's all wholesome real food and inexpensive too. I think it will do us good.

I find the more I exercise, the less I crave junk food. Is that a side effect of endorphines do you think, or is it just psychological?

I partially follow recipes, at least for new soups. I tried this new ravioli vegetable soup. It's by far my favorite. I threw in eggplant, carrots, green beans, and yellow squash in addition to the veggies they have listed. I've been craving chicken soup, so that's on the menu for this week. The week before was a minestrone soup, which turned out better after a day or two in the fridge. My grandma makes ham and navy bean soup every once in awhile for me. When she has leftover ham from the bone.

http://www.eatingwell.com/recipes/ravioli_vegetable_soup.html

http://www.food.com/recipe/family-favorite-healthy-minestrone-soup-256810 ( I used just a couple of small red potatoes, penne whole wheat pasta, and added extra veggies)

FOr both soups I did use a low sodium veggie stock, only because I have never made veggies stock before. I make my own chicken stock.

I bought this Chinese BBQ pork, fully cooked, and added brown rice, sesame seed, and Parmesan cheese for a midnight snack. So, so delicious. The spicy mustard that came with was like wasabi though, blech!
