I'm having trouble buying this photo. If you draw a line through the sights, it hits Obama's face where his eyebrow would be. Wrong. The fingers of his right hand are touching the barrel. Also wrong. Maybe he's just inexperienced? Too, a friend of mine questioned the amount of smoke the photo shows, because smokeless powder produces only a negligible amount of smoke.

I dunno. What do you think?

I think it's too easy to get a photo like this taken, so no, I don't think it's faked. Lame? Yes.

Why are there two streams of smoke? I've never noticed that when I've shot before.

I don't know enough about photo editing, or shooting, to say for sure.

But I do have to question why they would bother faking this photo? Surely it would be easy enough to set this up and take an actual photo? What's the context here? Why did it arouse suspicion? What do you think he's trying to pull?

I don't know about that either. I've never seen a barrel with a single port that far back from the muzzle. But, that may just be due to my unfamiliarity with the range of shotgun barrel designs.

Shotgun muzzles don't have ports that far back. The smoke almost looks like it's from a muzzle loader pistol using pyrodex as a propellant.

He has shitty form too.

The picture was supposed to be of him skeet shooting, who doesn't aim towards the sky and shoot when doing so. The discs are being launched in that direction. I'm sure him shooting is real, but skeet shooting? No...probably not.

When you shoot skeet you shoot in the air, not straight. Maybe this clay pidgeon was on a fence post ?

Exactly

Awful lot of smoke, but not necessarily inordinate. Bad form overall but no, it's not faked imo. His hand is all the way forward on the forearm. I think it's a Browning. To bad. A Browning deserves better.

Best part about it all is all the Twitter over it.

It looks like a Beretta 680 and they are ported that far back from the muzzle.

On the subject of sights, shotguns don't have sights (especially skeet guns) unless set up for turkey or deer. You point the end of the barrel where you want to hit. They have a beed at the end of the barrel but it's pretty useless.

I shoot frequently and nothing in the photo looks fake to me.

Not someone who goes skeet shooting "all the time", eh?

Say it isn't so!

Low bird. Even shooting trap. Doesn't matter. It's pure photo op. Not like he's actually shooting a round.

As far as his aiming point, maybe he took lessons from Cheney.

As far as faked, no, I believe it is a real photo. It does appear, though, that he is not used to/uncomfortable with, shooting. When I first learned how to fire a rifle, I looked like that; awkward and uncomfortable.

That is an "over-under" double barrel shotgun, there are none on the market that would vent the barrel that far back, or only in one location, especially on one side only. Venting, or more accurately called porting, the barrel is is done to reduce muzzle climb when firing, that is usually done on pistols, so you can maintain targeting of the weapon, and they are ported in such a way as to help off set the muzzle climb. There for they are ported in two to four places, usually along the top of the barrel. Rifles and shotguns, with their longer barrels do not bennifit from the use of porting, their longer barrels naturally off set the recoil climb enough that the shooter can control it, unlike shorter pistol barrels that lend themselves to recoil muzzle climb.

Its fake......

One reason, when smoke exit's the barrel, shot is just in front of it. No it is not fake because no shot, its fake because at that point the shooters shoulder is recovering from the recoil. His shoulder is in the pre-shot phase or he is sooooo manly he can not move after a shotgun blast. I have no idea why it would be faked.

I think the underlying photo may be real, but it has fake shit in it.  No way does a shotgun produce that sort of smoke (smokeless powder) in what must be skeet shells.  No flame out the end, and that weird extra plume........taken in very high quality, and we see no movement blurring with such a slow aperture (it must have been).

I am in the not sure category.

I have seen shotguns ported, but never an over under.

If he is shooting skeet, the gun angle is too low.

Too much smoke for smokeless powder.

And his form sucks, and he does not seem to be reacting to recoil.

Now, it could be an over and under black powder shot gun to make the pic look better, that would explain the smoke.

Two, if it is black powder, there is no way it was a full charge, or had shot in the load, since the shot is not visible.

Finally, I would say that all things considered it is a staged photo op, not quite fake, but not quite real either.

Clearly this is intended to prove his support for gun owners, and lets face it, he is not talking about all guns being banned, just assault weapons.

Ignore the smoke and now assess it.
