According to Senator Lindsey Graham this is how many people the predator drones have killed so far. It is a total, nothing about how many terrorist were killed, women and children etc.

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/drones-killed-4-700-u-senator-says-141143752--politics.html

The Al-Qaida have been busy as well, they have giving out tips on how to avoid a strike.

4.700: If they are talking about senior leaders, either most of them are very old, or most of them are civilians.

It would be interesting to know the figure of deaths by terrorism - I bet it gets nowhere that many.

Tips to avoid a strike? Cheaters!

I kinda like the idea that India has, weaponizing the ghost chili, I mean the US could spray ghost chili powder or even ghost chili spray over a region. Then send troops into wearing hazmat suits to round up everyone, restrain em, and if necessary incarcerate them. The ones that are not a threat, the states could give them coupons good for a years worth of meals at Burger King, Long John Silvers or Pizza Hut.

Nobody dies, and all is well.

Whoa, now. I think that might be an abuse of the bhut jolokia, aka, Ghost Chili. Have you not learned anything from the price of corn and corn-dependent foods what governmental use of a food for a non-food purpose can do?!?

Personally, I'd rather go with an All-American, if we're going to do that. And, to that end, I present, the Carolina Reaper (aka HP22B).

Sounds promising, but have to wait till the tests come in.

Besides, there is the Trinidad Scorpion pepper. Perhaps a hybrid of all three? Considering the funding that Congress throws at the Defense department, it would be the cheapest weapons research they could do... and it wont kill anyone, well it will almost not kill anyone.

jlf1961 -> RE: Collateral murder (2/23/2013 8:49:21 PM)

I was sent a container of ghost chili powder, and experimented it in my salsa. Two tablespoons per gallon seems to be about the best addition, any more of that you cant really taste the other ingredients of the salsa, and any less really makes no impact.

My next experiment will be a batch of chili for myself, without beans as chili should be, while making a batch of bean and beef tomato soup for the rest of the family.

The Carolina reaper sounds intriguing, I have already visited the website for it and placed an order of both the liquid sauce and a spice container of the powder.

I admit that the only time I tried to eat a ghost chili, the experience was not pleasant, but using it in small quantities in various dishes is actually quite good and not overpowering.

I guess moderation is the key.

We are looking for nonlethal weapons of mass incapacitation.

egern -> RE: Collateral murder (3/7/2013 8:32:50 AM)

Finally!!!

"UN panel to investigate rise in Drone Strikes"

"LONDON — A prominent British human rights lawyer said on Thursday that a United Nations panel he leads would investigate what he called the “exponential rise” in drone strikes used in counterterrorist operations, “with a view to determining whether there is a plausible allegation of unlawful killing.” "

"...the panel would assess the selected drone strikes and the reports that some of them had caused “disproportionate civilian casualties,” while posing little or no risk to the drone operators and offering a relatively inexpensive strike option to the nations using the drones."

"At his news conference, Mr. Emmerson noted that John O. Brennan, deputy national security adviser in the White House, defended the strikes as part of the United States’ right to defend its national security against a stateless enemy. But he said that argument had been rejected by most countries “and by the majority of international lawyers outside the United States.” "

"Subsequently, Mr. Emmerson angered American officials by suggesting that some “double tap” drone attacks, involving a second missile attack on a target, could be described as war crimes because they had been reported in some instances as having killed mourners at funerals for people killed in the initial strike, or tribal elders meeting at the target sites. "

IMO this is a timid attempt to start talking about what is essentially war crimes, but at least it is a start.
