USPS to cease mail delivery on Saturday on August 1st

Will this impact you? Does it matter to you? I pay all of my monthly bills online. Every one of them. When I do buy stamps once every few years I buy the forever stamps because it takes me forever to use them. Same thing with personal checks. I write fewer than a half dozen a year. However, when I purchase things online if USPS Priority Mail is an option I always select it because it's usually cheaper and usually just as fast as UPS or FedEx unless they are shipping from the west coast. No Saturday "snail mail" really won't be a big thing here. How about for you?

It won't affect me much. I'm not sure why, but I still get excited to retrieve the mail...and then disappointed if its empty or all bills.
So, one less day of disappointment!

Switcheroo1983 -> RE: USPS: Saturday mail delivery to end Aug 1st (2/6/2013 8:03:11 AM)

Nah, I won't be effected. I communicate mostly through phone and email. Also, I too do online bill-pay.

Hillwilliam -> RE: USPS: Saturday mail delivery to end Aug 1st (2/6/2013 8:15:48 AM)

It won't be a huge deal.

meomymaid -> RE: USPS: Saturday mail delivery to end Aug 1st (2/6/2013 8:24:48 AM)

Completely nuts. why not skip Monday?
All the road worriers who get home only on the weekend and have to pay their bills are left behing.
On a Monday the amount of mail is not as critical. When there is no mail on Sat and Sun that's just nuts.

EsotericLady -> RE: USPS: Saturday mail delivery to end Aug 1st (2/6/2013 8:43:43 AM)

I honestly don't care, unless it affects my bill payment due dates.

Of course their lack of funding probably has nothing to do with their sponsoring LANCE ARMSTRONG TO THE TUNE OF 35 MILLION DOLLARS, either!!!

peppermint -> RE: USPS: Saturday mail delivery to end Aug 1st (2/6/2013 11:04:22 AM)

I don't get any mail that is time sensitive so having no Saturday delivery won't bother me at all. The only problem I see is the poor mailman who has to deliver all the weekend packages on Monday during the Christmas holidays.

littlewonder -> RE: USPS: Saturday mail delivery to end Aug 1st (2/6/2013 12:04:29 PM)

Doesn't matter to me. I check my mail maybe once or twice a week and I rarely get more than two pieces of mail. Most of it is just junk mail. I get my bills online and pay them that way so no mail needed. Packages will still be delivered so if I order something I will still get it on a Saturday. All my paychecks are direct deposit so I won't have to worry about that either.

I think eventually we will have the usps delivering mail maybe once or twice a week and post offices only being open a few days a week. With computers and smart phones it's just not very useful anymore.

~FRing it~

Wont really bother me too much either. I pay the vast majority of my bills online and have gone with paperless billing for the most part. If my ISP decided to take saturdays off, Id probably be more pissed off...but not so much with USPS. About the only thing I can see being a bit of a pain in the ass will be for my Blockbuster movie thing. We used to have a distribution center here in Portland, but now they moved it up to Seattle, so it takes a bit longer turn around time to mail in a movie and get the new one on the way. No saturday delivery will mean more wait time for me, but Im a patient soul. No really, I am [:D]

Sounds like it's time to do the RedBox thing or streaming Netflix. No having to send back movies.

Powergamz1 -> RE: USPS: Saturday mail delivery to end Aug 1st (2/6/2013 4:57:46 PM)

Can't foresee a negative effect for me.

When they get home on the weekends, they have the mail from the week to deal with. Do you honestly think that all of their important mail arrives on Saturday because they home?

servantforuse -> RE: USPS: Saturday mail delivery to end Aug 1st (2/6/2013 5:00:36 PM)

The USPS lost nearly 16 billion last year. This should have been done years ago. Now they can start to close a thousand or so Post office building that are no longer needed.

LafayetteLady -> RE: USPS: Saturday mail delivery to end Aug 1st (2/6/2013 5:01:53 PM)

I only check my mail a couple times a week, so it won't really make a difference to me. Interestingly, Saturday tends to be one of the days I cross the street (only about 15 feet, lol) to check my mail. I have no idea whether the stuff arrived Saturday, Friday or even Tuesday, so it really makes no difference.

tj444 -> RE: USPS: Saturday mail delivery to end Aug 1st (2/6/2013 5:08:47 PM)

I am used to no Saturday mail delivery (as thats the way it is in Canada).. so to me, I see a mailman in his truckie on Saturday and, startled, I say to myself "shit, what day is it?" then a few seconds later.. "oh, yeah, they do that here on Saturdays too".. hahaha

I do a lot of stuff online or by phone.. I have and use a PO Box anyway so I get my mail when I decide to pick it up.. The only time it might matter is when i order gently preowned books thru half.com or some such thing if its shipped thru usps.. but some stuff i get sent to the stores and pick them up there or they are delivered by fedex or ups..

really, for me, how can I miss something that didnt have any real value to me?

littlewonder -> RE: USPS: Saturday mail delivery to end Aug 1st (2/6/2013 10:34:22 PM)

My mailbox is the whole way around front at the landlord's door since I live behind him. So I just never see a need to check it that often. For the past two months though I've been checking it a little more often because my landlord is gone and they put all his mail in my box. So being the nice tenant I am, I separate our mail (which means all of it is his lol) and slide it into his door slot. My landlord gets tons and tons of mail since he's sorta rich and owns all kinds of stuff all over the states. I can see my landlord getting pissy about the no Saturday mail. He gets pissy about anything that changes though.

LadyPact -> RE: USPS: Saturday mail delivery to end Aug 1st (2/6/2013 10:44:13 PM)

No, it's really not going to effect us. We do so little through the post office now that it won't matter. Almost everything is done with online bill pay. The only letters that I exchange are with My father or sending cards for birthdays, etc.

ShaharThorne -> RE: USPS: Saturday mail delivery to end Aug 1st (2/7/2013 3:26:33 AM)

Most of my bills are paid by deducting online, Mom's sears bill is paid online but she pays the rest of the bills by check. I order books and the sellers use USPS to get my books to me.

Also my brother works for the USPS. This cuts into his hours and he has 4 kids to feed. His wife can't work right now because the kids are sick.

littleone14 -> RE: USPS: Saturday mail delivery to end Aug 1st (2/7/2013 6:51:03 AM)

I still get Netflix by mail, so that's the only thing that might affect me in any way. But it's really not a big deal.

I read an article yesterday where the reporter must have gone out of their way to find the most whiny, annoying person they could possibly find to interview about the impact of stopping saturday service. She was going on and on about how horrible it would be because the only day she has off is Saturday, so that's the only day she has to read her mail, and how they weren't thinking about the horrible impact this would have on people like her. Are people really that stupid?????

Yes, they are that stupid. Didn't you read the post above that said basically the same thing? They are acting like because Saturday is their only day off, the post office only delivers to them on that day. Duh!
