Status: offline 		It seems the cops didn't mess around. Looks like they used high temperature tear gas cartridges (oops - did we start a fire?) and then sent in an armored piece of equipment to just rip the walls down, while the flames took hold, with snipers watching from all angles.

They have a body.

...they have a body, I am glad they didn't need to bomb the entire neighborhood to get him.

Rich, between the ex cop on a murderous rampage, whatever North Korea is up to, the economy, and the deterioration of society in general, I thought long and hard about the world we live in.

Who would ever think we would see a cop going off like this?
It's like some sort of movie, I am thinking this can't be real.

Marini, Rich, my education was in history in college, with a bit of anthropology thrown in because it interested me, for the last 20 years, I have been working on a theory about what is happening in the world now.

My theory is that increasing population world wide is creating the social environment that leads to these kinds of violent incidents. Look at how much the population density in major cities around the world has increased at an almost exponential rate. I do not believe the human species was meant to live in cities, or even towns of over 10000 in population.

Humans are social animals, but outside of immediate family, major social bonds are limited to a select few. The rest are not important to the individual.

Of course I may be batshit crazy with this theory, and the whole idea may need its own thread. As it is, it seems to me that the more people living together, the more that go batshit crazy with homicidal intentions.

One of the experiments you read about in Psych 101 is the classic rats in a cage.

One rat in a cage does fine and is happy
Give it a mate and they start breeding and they're happy
3-4-5, etc and everything is copacetic.
Depending on cage size and the strain of rat, at a certain density which is consistent from experiment to experiment, when a certain threshhold is crossed for population density all hell breaks loose.
They fight to he death, mothers eat their young and in general the whole social order goes to hell.
This happens even if you have plenty of material resources and there is no need to fight over them.

I dont really buy that.. people arent rats.. you have a choice in how you react.. and people have a choice in where they live.. I grew up on a farm near a small town (pop 500) and I couldnt wait to leave that place and the small minded people.. give me the anonimity of living in a big city any day.. to me, that is freedom..

Take someone from the city thats batshit crazy and put him in the sticks and he/she is still batshit crazy.. jmo..

No one said that moving to the country would cure anyone, just that the extra stressors like those found in an overcrowded city, showed a correlation.

Status: offline 		I think your overall theory may have some truth to it but as far as the world getting worse it is just not true. We are a far gentler species at this time in our existence than at any other time. My opinion anyway.

The world, and the human species are learning to get along as the world population is educated. Once we understand there is a limit to our numbers that the earth can support we will enter a golden age.

What happens if we've already passed that population number? Not sure that would be all that golden.

Status: offline 		Not in my experience, you have more stressors in a small town cuz everyone knows your business or thinks they friggin do.. Small towns also you are much less likely to find a job, so money issues stressors are there too, perhaps even more so.. no buses either so try getting around and see how far you get if you dont have a vehicle.. grocery shopping means you likely have to travel to a bigger city to buy food & supplies (especially bullets and such).. etc, etc.. jmo

Here he was,.. was holed up & hiding across from where the cops were all set up.. no wonder they couldnt find him..

For him being portrayed as a psycho killer, he did not kill those two women (the housekeepers) that accidentally surprised him, he just tied them up and left.. sounds like that was actually his undoing since one got free and called the cops and put them on his trail again..

People die...but really things only seem worse because of the capabilities of today’s media...People are becoming educated and with knowledge will come a better living standard and less need for large families. We here in the western world are suffering somewhat for the so called third world relative prosperity but in the end it is for the best.

Notice how countries that depend on propaganda and religious zeal to govern are becoming isolated and will eventually lose their grip on their people. It could get messy for awhile as people rebel against change but they will change… if not… their children will.
